How much do you spend per day on tournament entries? Just curious what other people spend. For me, on weekends I spend maybe $300 to $400, and on regular days about $100 or so. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Pocket Fives Top 100 - Any Play High Stakes Cash Games? I would have thought the crossover between MTT and cash games were much more common. After all the top pros that you read about (Bruson, Ivy, Negreanu, Hellmuth, etc,) seem to be able to do both. Is it more common for good cash game players to also be good MTT, are more rare for good MTT pros to also play well in cash games' Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Pocket Fives Top 100 - Any Play High Stakes Cash Games? Out of the top 100 Pocket Fives players/pros, do any of them also play high stakes cash games' If so, what stakes' Are any of them successful at them' It must be difficult to be a top MTT player and also a top cash game player. I was curious to find out which players do both at a high level. Is it more profitable to play tournaments or cash games for our Pocket Five pros' Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Playing your "A" Game in small Tournaments It sure is frusterating to play several hours in a tournament and win $2 or $3. But you're right, if the top prize is large enough, I can still play fairly well. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Playing your "A" Game in small Tournaments What is the smallest tournament that you can enter and still play your "A" game' I find that if the entry is too tiny, I lose motivation to play my best. After all, it's only a few bucks... Sadly those few bucks add up over time. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

How many online MTT pros are there? How many online MTT pros are there' We will define pro as: 1. Someone making at least $60,000 a year (I know some will say that this is too small, but some people can make this amount work for them). 2. Someone whose primary source of income is playing multi table tournaments. I would guess only between 500 to 1000 players. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:varience in limit holdem? My limit results have less varience then my no-limit cash games. In limit, if you figure you raise, reraise, and cap preflop, on the flop, on the turn and on the river, the max that you can lose is 12 big bets. In no limit, you can lose everything in front of you. That being said, I have experienced -200 big bet swings in limit. I am sure that people have had much worse. But if you have about 500 big bets in limit, you should be okay. What's the difference here' Let us assume that the OP is good enough to make and has the bankroll to do so. He hates school and wants to make his mark on the poker world. Go for it, I say. Re:$100 NL vs $5-$10 Limit, which is more profitable? I am just following Fox's bankroll suggestions. Yes, $5-$10 Limit will probably have harder opponents, but purely from a bankroll perspective, shouldn't a player focus on limit instead of no limit' Same bankroll, higher level of play, more hypothetical profit' Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:$100 NL vs $5-$10 Limit, which is more profitable? Okay, maybe "master" is the wrong word. But do people agree that given the same bankroll, that limit is more profitable then no limit' Or am I missing something' Posted in: Poker Discussion |

$100 NL vs $5-$10 Limit, which is more profitable? Following Fox's bankroll management, a player should have approximately 500x the big blind for limit poker and 50x the buyin for no limit poker. Based on the above statement, if a player has a $5,000 bankroll, they should be able to either play $100 NL poker or $5-$10 limit. Which is more profitable' If you were to select one to master, which one would you choose' Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Going Pro? --- How many will fail? Every few days there is another person stating that they are thinking of going pro or have decided to take the plunge and play poker full time. I want to be supportive and I really hope they succeed. Heck, one day I may want to take the jump myself. But let's be honest, how many of these posters will actually make it as a professional poker player. For arguement's sake, let's call a professional someone who grinds out at least $60,000 a year. (Not much, but it is a good, solid income depending on where you live). Finally, I know that it may be hard to swallow your pride and ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:When you see that someone is a Supernova... It seems that a lot of people think that Supernova players suck'!' How can this be' While they might play straight forward poker, they must be making money. If you play that many ring games, SNGs or MTTs to get to Supernova, you have to be EV+ or else you would go broke very quickly. When you see that someone is a Supernova... ...do you play them differently' Do you respect them more because they have obviously played a lot to get their status' Or do you treat them just like any other player at the table' Do you steal from them more in cash games because they are normally playing 12 to 24 tables at a time' Do you fear their raises' In STT do you assume that they are raising only good hands at the start and push/fold by the end game' In MTT do you adjust your strategy with them' Or are you more likely to look up their stats because they are Supernova' And finally, if you are a Supernova, is it a good idea to ... Re:Switch From Tournys To Cash!!? If your bankroll is $600 I would start playing $10 NL ($0.05 - $0.10 blinds). This will give you 60 buy ins which should be more then enough. Use this level to get a feel for playing NL ring games and then move up to the $25 NL tables once you feel comfortable and have been able to pad your bankroll a little bit more. Personally, I have had more success reading booking then with training sites, but to each their own. Borrow a few books from friends to get started. The main adjustment that you have to make is that you are suddenly playing deep stack poker as opposed to being short stacked ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |
