The Julian Assange Show: Occupy Movement
could be wrong but my understanding is that the most attention he has received was over all the dimplomatic cables he made public - it was more of a political embarrasment than putting lives in danger - those poor diplomats schmoozing with each other, having drinks and dinner one night and telling their superiors what an idiot the other is the following day. Not exactly a threat to world peace.

Syrian Massacre
i agree with a lot of what Zepp has said ITT - the middle east has always been a power struggle between the USA, Russia, and now China - the super powers of the world pick and choose their battles and ultimately the winners and losers. It's really disappointing that the UN has not taken a more active role in Syria but given the political nature of the UN and the veto powers of the founding members, it is a less than perfect organization as well.

Syrian Massacre
fuck sakes - i'm the last guy to defend religiosity but people who espouse to be religious in the name of controlling others and committing human atrocities aren't religious at all. They're the most despicable people in the world and they've been doing it since time began. Christians, Muslims, Jews, choose your poison. It's sickening.

being a left wing commie pinko, i don't normally complain about taxes but just booking flights to go out to Kamloops and they list the cost of the flights and taxes separately - airport tax, security tax, handling fee, HST - flights cost $1036.00 return for the wife and I before tax, $1,325.00 after tax and surcharges. That's ridiculous.

Kevin Na
good stuff - hope it works out for him. I was watching an old US Open tape when Sergio was going through his battle with preshot - looked like he was milking a cow. I think he squeezed and released the handle 10 or 12 times before each shot. It was painful to watch.

Equal work equal pay!
damned if i know Gin - the names of the bills you guys pass and the actual content of the bills is always a mystery - i'm sure on page 485 of the Paycheck Fairness Act will be a provision for apples being sold in the state of WA followed by a tax exemption for pig farmers research in Idaho and wooden shafted arrows manufactured in Oregon.

the article in the OP stated that they were urging congress to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act, so i assumed it hadn't actually got passed yet - not sure Gin if we are talkin about 2 different things

Equal work equal pay!
our experience with this in the great white north is that pay equity legislation begins with government employees (i would assume your congress is part of this), and then it begins to get implemented in the private sector. To be honest, i could not see this type of legislation ever getting passed in the USA, but i've been wrong before. It can be an extremely tedious and costly thing to implement.

Equal work equal pay!
unfortunately, it's not even as simple as that - pay equity often involves "equal pay for work of equal value" and they are comparing wages of people in different roles - taking into consideration things such as job danger, job comforts, skills, travel, responsibilities, etc - trying to implement such a system is beyond difficult and filled with a beuraucracy of it's own.

Equal work equal pay!
we have pay equity legislation in Canada, and all i can tell you is ... good luck. While i do support the notion of equal pay, implementing it in the private sector is a bureaucratic nightmare.

lol @ those fancy pants MIT dudes - why not have a lid with a long plastic probe attached to it - the probe creates an air gap in the bottle and when the cap is removed, the ketchup flows freely.
