I don't think there would be that big of a spike in DUIs. Most people aren't in the car long enough to have more than one beer unless they are just straight chugging, and the people that would do that are few and far between (and drinking so much before/after they get to the party location that it doesn't matter). yeah, anyone arguing that a passenger shouldn't be able to drink a beer is ignorant.

Yes, they are dumb. No, it is slightly more dangerous since you are increasing your BAL with every sip (and yes, every bit of BAL makes it "more dangerous"). It is not dangerous enough to warrant having a law against it, though.

Serious tipping thread.
I actually hate the service in America. I'm living in Berlin right now and enjoy this style of service a lot better. The waiters aren't asking you how your day was or trying to engage in small talk, and they don't come by your table every few minutes distracting you from the people you went with to ask if everything is ok. Sure, sometimes you have to wait a bit to flag down a waiter to pay the bill or grab a second drink, but you can also sit around and talk when you're finished eating without feeling hounded to leave.

a) awesome video b) i think there is a way to match a bunch of it up with a computer instead of manually going through it. they have those things where they mess with people's speeches to make them say ridiculous things, and it seems like there would be a way to do it with some sort of program. (though i am not an expert, just seems like it would be possible)

Good graduation gifts for the SO?
besides whatever "real gift" you give, one cool thing would be to make some sort of photo album or collage (these are really easy to do online) or picture frame with pictures from all of her graduations (or other special occasions) thus far in her life. Either leave room for one from this graduation or give it to her like a week or two after so you can add the most recent one. I did something similar for my parents when I left for college and it was a simple double frame with me at my kindergarten "graduation" and my high school graduation with a note thanking them for all they had done for ...

there might be a better analogy, but speeding and illegal downloading both harm someone else in indirect ways (as said before, stealing via illegal downloading is different than stealing via shoplifting an apple). by someone else speeding, they are depriving the other drivers of safety and they are causing other people to pay more in medical bills for the accidents that happen because of it, so they are also depriving others of value. sure, it is different in that we know which studio is hurt by the downloading of a certain movie, and we don't know which people are hurt by the speeding, but ...

That is their argument. And they are using the "we had xxxx amount of dollars stolen from us" (I actually don't even pay attention the exact number they use since it is completely bogus) to make an argument for legislation that will hurt privacy/freedom on the internet. They don't need stronger tools to stop this theft, which on the grand scale of things isn't that big. Every person who speeds is breaking the law. Does that mean we should mandate that every car have a device that monitors speed/gps location and sends it to the law enforcement agencies so they can punish those breaking ...
