Maybe the best opener in the history of the NFL last night has to get you excited for this weekend. A pretty interesting slate of games with the shortening of training camp and a lot of teams looking different than years past. Here's who I like : Pittsburgh (+1.5) at Baltimore Pittsburgh looks like they will be at full health after some untimely injuries hurt them in the Super Bowl. $1,000 Fantasy Football League
If anyone has any money left post Black Friday, we are looking for two managers for a $1k Fantasy Football league. The league will be held on Yahoo and will be a 12-team league with an auction style draft. Payment will have to be in cash or check. The draft will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 7th -- the day before the season. Other managers in the league include poker phenoms such as Cole South, Brian Hastings and Andrew Wiggins, so yeah there's some dead money. We pay out the regular season champion, as well as first and second place playoff finishers. Send me a PM if interested.

Certainly didn't mean to sacfrifice the future. It doesn't cost much nowadays with the economy in the tank and teams like the Dodgers unable to make payroll. Spend a little bit of cash and "rent a player" so to speak. Big early shot by GFJ today. Hit me up if you'd ever like to catch a game. I have season tickets and will be going to every game when I get back from Vegas.

LET'S GO BUCS. Pirates need to add a bat at the deadline to have any sort of legitimate shot at contending. A right handed power bat that can play first or right and hits league average for a corner position player. A Pat Burrell/Cody Ross type (although not necessarily them). They also need Alvarez ASAP. He's the only one with legit threatening MLB power on the roster. When he comes back, they can platoon Cedeno and Wood at SS. I think Hurdle needs to look into playing Jones at first base once or twice a week to get his bat in, with Paul getting more ABs in right. The schedule gets tough ...

Who ya got week 7 NFL?
This SD-New England game is a perfect NFL game to gamble on. New England is a public team with a better record, and like I said earlier, SD has the #1 pass defense, and the Pats have been throwing the ball at a very high rate. The Chargers are due for some good fortune, and you can't dismiss what they have done at home, even though it was vs. Jacksonville and Arizona.

SAN DIEGO (-3) vs. New England Call me stubborn, but I have faith in this Chargers team to turn it around and make a playoff push. They have a lot of things going for them in their favor tomorrow : 1) They are playing at home, where they are 2-0 and have outscored their opponents by a 79-23 margin, 2) They are the #1 passing team in the NFL and also are currently #1 in pass defense as well. New England strongly favors the pass when they have the ball, 3) 80% of the betting public is taking the Patriots tomorrow, which is always a good sign for the team in the minority, and 4) this fact ...

This chargers team is unbelievable. They move the ball at will and play stingy defense. Special teams play has been as bad as any NFL team ever, but they can still cover with Campbell in. Second half line will be interesting

1) You will never hear me say LOCK or anything like that. I may say I really like a game, but betting is a system of playing the odds, there is still a lot of random luck. 2) That Saints line looks too easy. Vegas is just begging you to bet the Saints (like Chicago +4 last week). New Orleans has looked very mediocre the last couple weeks, squeaking out a couple victories. Bush is out and it now looks like Thomas will probably be out as well. Of course, Arizona has looked like the worst team alive a couple weeks. I'm not sure what to think.

One month down, so far, so good. Expect the Bears to come back to earth, the 49ers to make a run, and white people to continue to gamble on Peyton Manning. On to week five : Jacksonville (pick) at BUFFALO My god, the Bills are bad. I forget who was on the NFL Network in preseason saying that this year's Bills team had the possibility to be one of the worst NFL teams ever, but they are giving it a hell of a run. I wouldn't put too much stock into something like emotions effecting your bets. These are professional athletes competing for multi-million dollar contracts in the greatest game on earth. The emotions/drive/hunger are there just about every week for every team. Last week's Dallas-Houston game was a rare exception because Houston was coming off two absolutely monstrous wins for their franchise, as big as any two they have ever had. Dallas also is much better than the 0-2 team that started out of the gates, and I think this was more of a regression to the mean sort of thing than anything. Very ...

Also leaning towards Pitt -2.5 and San Diego -8. Don't have much time for analysis, but I think that the steelers will be able to run the ball, thus hiding Charlie batch. San Diego is a very good 1-2 team, but awful on special teams. I expect them to put up 30+ points and winning easy.

About to catch a flight and don't have much time to study these lines harder, but as of now there's only one game I really like this week : CLEVELAND (+3) vs. Cincinnati On the surface, the Browns look like the same old Browns ... 0-3 and in last place in AFC North. In reality, the Browns are 0-3 but could just as well be 3-0 with a total point differential of -12. In all three games (at TB, KC, at BALT) the Browns led in the second half and the total yards for all three games were pretty even. New Eastbound & Down in 5 minutes
I was disappointed. I don't understand why they decided to not bring any of last year's cast back this season. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And it certainly wasn't broke, every episode was awesome and no scenes were wasted last season. The first episode was ok, it was entertaining and I will continue to watch. But I don't think it is going to be as good as season one.

My head says to take the Bears as well, although my heart remains with Green Bay. Peppers has taken that defense to another level, and give them credit for making adjustments (quick hitters) after Cutler was put on his ass early. Green Bay hasn't really been tested yet, and that Bears win last weekend was the most impressive one.

Two for two on NFL weekends so far. Things get a little trickier this week, only two lines I like : Atlanta +3.5 at NEW ORLEANS Feels like a coin flip, little bit of line value. Atlanta, as predicted, totally demolished a pretty poor Arizona team. They ran all over them (Turner had 75 yards on 9 carries before getting hurt, Snelling filled in with 129 yards on 24 carries). The defense did a nice job in limiting Fitzgerald and containing the Cards for the most part, coming off a nice performance vs. Pittsburgh the week before.
