Re(1): Best form of poker for new player?
Single table sit'n'go tournaments are the best value for your dollar, since you can invest a small amount of money and potentially play a lot of hands for that buy-in. You'll get the added bonus of being able to see how a table plays as the amount of players shrink. Typical sit'n'go strategy is also the way a new player should be playing, tight-aggressive, playing your big hands for value and being patient until the blinds start getting big compared to the remaining chip stacks. Once you start to get a feel for these tournaments you can start playing around and seeing what you like best or ...

Uhmmm, could you guys please stop calling this guy a douche bag' I think everyone should do whatever they can to encourage this fish to continue playing in the big tournaments. Hell, go shake his hand and congratulate him. Give him the stink palm, obv.

Re(3): satellite question
When I watched the hand being played, the biggest reason I felt a push was incorrect is because I didn't think jme1222 had any fold equity, I was sure the button was going to call him here. If you were absolutely sure you were going to get your all-in called, do you still push'

Re(3): satellite question
To be honest, I think jme1222 fudged the numbers a little. I could be wrong, but I was standing behind him watching and commenting when he played this hand and I believe the button actually raised to 1,500, though it would be hard to get an accurate figure now because I believe this thread has caused jme1222 to go insane and he probably wanted to cover up any trace of his shenanigans. If the guy raised 3x I'd probably raise or call with 99. If the guy raised 6x like I remember, it was an easy fold.

Re(1): back to cash games (help adjusting)
I'm primarily a tournament player, and when I do play Hold'em cash games, it's usually limit. On the occasions that I do play no-limit cash games, I pretty much stick to my early tournament strategy when the blinds are low compared to the stacks. Once I've sat with players long enough to exploit their play I'll start mixing it up, which is why I think it is important to keep notes on the players who spend a lot of time at the tables you are playing at. Since the blinds never increase, playing a cash game to me is just like playing a tournament that is stuck in level one, though you do have to ...

The guys responding to this situation at 2+2 think it's a push. And they think I belong at Pocket5's (apparently that was a dis, I took it as a compliment. Starting to think the average poster at 2+2 is an uberdonk.) Link to 2+2 thread.

Re(3): satellite question
You wouldn't have been folding out of the chip lead, are those numbers right' I thought the blinds were 150/300 and the guy raised to 1,000 or 1,500' You would have folded your 300 chips from posting the BB, not lost 3k which did make you the short stack.

Re(5): Math vs Reads
My whole game reeks of fear of losing. Or at least, I'm a very competitive person and one of the struggles I've had to deal with is playing a game where the best player doesn't always come out the winner. Of all the games I have played, poker is by far the one filled with the biggest element of chance, so getting used to losing while being the best player has been tough. What I'm trying to say is, I'm not overly nitty or anything like that, but I hate to lose and had a rough time coming to terms with playing a game with this much variance.

Re(2): Math vs Reads
Yeah, I use the term 'we' loosely there, because I was starting to tell him to fold when he shoved all his chips in. This happens all the time, in fact, I think I've caused him to make some pretty big mistakes because I'll start explaining something to him and then he just goes and makes a move before I get finished. Oh, and he's gonna be reading this so I also know that this will piss him off.

Re(2): Math vs Reads
Thanks for the post, while I had been assigning different % chances that the player was on a certain type of play (e.g. 10% bluff, 40% betting for value with hand I have beat, 50% teh nutz oh noes) I had not considered giving different values to the likelyhood of a players actual holding based on my reads, that helps A LOT! Great post, thanks!

That's basically all I needed to hear. I just don't like being called a donkey because I thought folding QQ preflop was a solid play cause the other guy obv had aces when my buddy tells me that everyone who knows wtf their talking about would get their chips in there every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Math vs Reads
First I wanted to remind everyone that I don't think I am some kind of superstar poker player, this is not a brag post and I am looking for some serious advice... Lately I've been feeling like I have no idea how to play certain situations because while the math says I should be making one move, my read tells me I should be taking another. In the most recent situations, I've gone with the math only to find that my read was 100% correct and had I followed it I would have kept myself in the tournament. Maybe my understanding of the math and putting players on a range of hands is completely ...

Re(1): stupid question about FTP and Jerry Yang
Why market and promote Jerry Yang when you can't turn on ESPN or ESPN2 without seeing him win the WSOP ME over, and over, and over, and over again' He's wearing a Full Tilt logo at the final table and he's on TV nearly 24 hours a day. I think Full Tilt did all they needed to do when they made Jerry sign exclusively to them. Besides, Jerry Yang is a terrible poker player, why would they go out of their way to promote his affiliation with their site'

If it's really pissing off your family or girlfriend, then yeah, you have a problem. If it is negitively affecting other areas of your life, then you have a problem. Me, if I was in your shoes I would say that I have a problem with my girlfriend, not a problem with poker.

Re(1): Im addicted, whos with me!
Being addicted to poker is fine in my book, no different than being addicted to video games, porno, and certain soft drugs. Now, if you have a gambling problem, that's a whole different story. I'm in the process of trying to help a gambler turn himself into a poker player, and the things I've seen make me absolutely sick. I've seen this guy take a perfectly good bankroll and blow it in one night after taking a bad beat. One time this happened he had a roll of about $1k and was playing $12 MTTs and after some sick beat, jumpped into some $200 heads-up SnG's until he was busto. If that's your ...

In addition to the default stats displayed I also use 'Fold to C-bet %'. Outside of the defaults you should run through the list of stats you can display and think about which stats will be most useful to you. Also, it may be helpful to use a guide on how to setup and use PAHUD effectively, I had a link to one but it appears to no longer work, try Google. =\

Re(1): GOD i miss paradise sooooooooooo much
Does anyone think that the American players that quit because of how hard it is to deposit are going to come back if a carve out for poker is added or a complete repeal of the law' I imagine it will get better supposing that the poker rooms start advertizing the hell out of the fact that people can once again deposit with their debit cards, but even then, I'm afraid most of the people who caught the poker bug and left when the UIGEA was signed have moved on to some other, less costly hobby.

You're getting over a little more than 2:1 on your money and you are a 1.5:1 dog vs a random hand (guessing since his range is any two cards that a random hand will do) so that means call' I pretty much just want everyone to call me a donk, so...

Re(3): WSOP ME coverage
Yeah, but in other sports it's usually funny, like the other night during the Bears/Packers game when they panned the camera to a Packers fan holding a sign with an arrow on it pointed to his girlfriend clad in Bears clothing that read "My girlfriend has one major flaw." I thought it was funny during the FexEx Cup that the commentators noticed that Phil Mickelson was wearing a teal shirt and Tiger Woods was wearing his red shirt and compared them to Rock'em Sock'em robots, which are the same colors, flashing an image of the toy on the screen. In poker, it's all bad though. WHO REALLY WANTS ...

Haha, I must be a complete poker degen, having trained as a professional poker dealer and now working full time marketing online poker rooms. One bit of advice, if you really, really enjoy playing poker, you might not want a job that involves poker, it's a really easy way to get burnt out. I know that when I started working with the company I'm with now, I stopped playing poker regularly for about a year, after sitting in front of the computer dealing with poker all day, it wasn't easy to come home and spend another six hours grinding it out at the tables. Likewise, a few years ago I spent a ...

Re(2): theres no skill in poker. its a game of luck
Just cause you occasionally have to gamble in poker does not mean that it's all luck, just as it is not all skill. And there is more to luck than having an underdog crack a strong hand, if you raise before the flop with rags and only get called by the blinds, that is a lucky situation, if they check to you, and you bet, and they fold, that is some very good luck, I think most people would think they used their skill to take that pot down, but in my opinion they were lucky. Either way, I love playing against people who complain about the luck factor in poker, not because I win or lose more or ...
