Re:Poker and parents
Dude, I'm 36 and my mom and dad still don't want me playing poker. Doesn't matter that I've shipped some nice little scores, they think it's wrong, they always will. I've stopped worrying about changing their minds, I just don't keep them informed about my game, no real point. I love them, they love me, we just disagree on cards.

Poker League, Final Table Hand
Poker league I'm in, we're three-handed, top 2 guaranteed seat into ME (5K tourney). Stacks are all pretty even. Blinds 5K/10K Shuttahbug (button, 75K) 53os folds Chris (SB, 65K behind) q10os shoves David (BB, 60K behind) A3os calls Chris turns a 10 to win and me and him earn our seats. My question, are you calling with A3. Under normal circumstances in a tourney I'm leaning towards a call because I feel like Im ahead of Chris's range, although he has been pretty snug (I was the most active player at FT). It was very surprising because David seemed content to fold into ...

I'd flat and evaluate. Flop comes overs and I'm gone. With lonny in there as well, flop comes AJ4 and you have to figure you're toast at that point.

Re:My attempt to educate the masses
thanks for the positive feedback guys, I really appreciate it. You guys have made it the most viewed page on the newspaper's site this week ... by about double. Thank you, and let's keep fighting the good fight and get this stuff straightened out so that we don't have to play online poker and hope that someone comes through the doors at us like Ellian Gonzalez.

My attempt to educate the masses
As some of you know I'm a sports reporter for a paper here on Cape Cod and have a blog. Usually I write about stuff like the Red Sox and Celtics, and other random sports observations. I used my soap box to further try to educate my readership a little bit about online poker. Don't know how good it came out, but sometimes I get inspired to write at weird hours, and it's nearly 2 AM here. Hope you enjoy it. /

Re:4.40 advice plz and thanx
question i like to ask myself before a decision like this "what am I beating'" answer: Not much. plus I fold this preflop there. If this had been a limped pot, maybe you want to see a flop on the button here, but with your cards you're not hoping to flop top pair, you're hoping for two pair, a straight or a flush. And then with that action, my goodness, let it go man, find a better spot.

Your M is is like 5 here, and the blinds are going up again soon, and coming through you next. Shove it every time.

Re:Questions about VIP status (silverstar)
actually, you'd have to play 600 $3 sngs to make it to the silver level, which basically means playing 20 per day. That's a lot for a part time player.

Re:3 out of 16 in a 4.40 180 men whats your play?
I'd really like to know if we have any reads on this guy. Has been uber-aggro, or has he been tight solid, that would help. Me, I'm probably shoving and losing to AJ, but I run bad ITM in these. Stop and go isn't a horrible play here. On a scary board you can grudgingly fold and still have a decent stack at this table. On a safe board you can ship it in and put him to a decision. i still like shoving pre as the best option though.

Re:$25 ----> $1000 in ten days?? Easy?? Hard?? Hustle??
Hope you've got nothing else to do because this will take volume. Me, I'd play 4 $5 DON (rake puts 5 over 25) and keep adding them for a day or two. if you can keep a decent ROI in these, and if you're good at least 60-percent is very do-able, you should be able to get to $100 in no time at all. The $4 180s are a gold mine too, but again, volume, and if you don't run good you're in trouble. I think you can do, but there's a good chance you'll hate life after 10 days.

Re:I dont get why people are upset about sharkscope etc if poker is a skill game
if they don't want SS to have stats, why do they make them available' Make the results and HH private and you have no problems. I dont' see what the big deal is anyways, it's not like you can use SS to see how someone plays hands a certain way, or what their shove range is. It just tells you whether they win or lose. Knowing that can screw up your decision-making process anyways.

Re:Set on flop
this early i don't like the re-raise pre, you've only got a pair of sevens. Then when you smash the flop you scare away your villain with the re-raise. That's not that scary a board. He could have J10, which has the potential to give you trouble if he spikes his inside draw, but other than that you're pretty good. Considering how much you guys build the pot preflop, and what level you're at, I think you got about as much value as you can expect out of this hand.

Re:4.40 180 hand
in a "real" tourney, i think i'm calling and shoving any a or k on the flop. in a 180 I'm just shoving here on first hand bec/ another one will start in a minute and it's a chance to double up right away, which always helps in these bad beat fests.

Re:sng's vs mtt's
moman's advice is solid. Annette thinks you should see more flops early with spec hands because when you hit you are more likely to get someone else to stack off when they're married to one pair. If Annette thinks it, that's good enough for me.

Re:What's your line here with the nut flush draw out of position?
when you're drawing you want that next card as cheaply as possible, no reason to raise. His 2.5 raise pre isn't necessarily weak. That's some players' standard raise regardless of level. I'm check calling here, no reason to get crazy, especially at level 2

Re:Folding AA postflop
i'd have three-bet him with the AA pre, led out on the flop and keep in mind that he's capable of raising AK the same way and you might be good.

Re:My 1st live tourney
you didn't have to shove here. Basically you got what you wanted on that flop, but you've got to know that you could be behind. Tough spot, but you can get away from it. You probably should have called the turn bet and not shoved over the top of it. That early on you don't want to play huge pots without at least a set. Learn from it, move onto the next one.

Re:bustin out of the 530... anyone folding here?
I think you've got to shove on his raise there. Trying to get tricky will just get you in trouble. If he calls, so be it, you were a huge favorite and suffered a bad beat.

Re(3): Poker Hating Wife Alert - HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
put aside a set time per week to play that she knows about. Like, Sundays from 2-5 is when you play, or something like that. My wife gives me crap about it sometimes too, so I usually just fire up the sngs when she goes to bed.

Re(1): Hypothetical SNG hand #2
snap call. You're getting just about 2-1 (1.94-1) and if you win you're the dominant stack, if you lose you're still the big stack, and in good shape.

Re(1): JJ in 4.40
I'm shipping this in. Having played these, he's most likely got a small pair, or at least something smaller than your JJ. People over-raise hands they don't want to see a flop with more than not. If he's done this with AA or KK, well gg, but I can't see how you're behind with that raise. It's such a donk/amateur move to over-raise there from UTG. If he is truly really strong why not 3x and then shove a raise' At that level, he doesn't want action, period.

Re(3): I <3 satty donks...
maybe ... MAYBE ... those player stay in if you raise to 3x here, but you have to protect your hand, regardless of the level. Yes you are deep stacked and other spots will arise, but if you don't play your KK hard, what hand will you' When' I have no problem with the fold, I'm not calling off that much with one pair either, but you've got to show strength here because by limping you're opening it up to all kinds of small pairs and connectors that can easily hurt you. You are right, though, those players do suck. Your job is to play right so you don't.
