WA sucks now, where should I move? Was ok with no Stars, am not ok with no FTP, lease up soon. Urbantown, NH and Austin, TX are topping the list atm (dunno where in NH is good). Where am I moving and why' Would prefer no state tax and lots of awesome tree lovers. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Can you chop the ME? I'd really like to see some poker players talk shit about Harrah's at a WSOP tv table. Just add a little one-liner every time you VPIP, "Harrah's doesn't care about poker players" or "Harrah's allows/does not allow x". Explain after the hand, and they can include that if they want. If you're in a crucial hand they'll feel compelled to televise, it's going to be next to impossible to edit out your comment if you do it as you put chips in the pot. Kind of like Dan Druff talkin shit about UB. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

cake poker...wow... You're either going in the right direction or the wrong direction. Lowering guarantees = wrong direction. Lots of people should be getting fired, but doubt it will happen. 6 months ago i would have said Bodog was going to shit and Cake was growing nicely. Now the complete opposite is true. Is this cheating ?? Is this ok ?? The post completely ignores the question at hand and goes off on an irrelevant tangent. The question is whether this is "cheating", whether this is "ok". Two different questions, but neither one is "should we be concerned about ghosting'" In deciding if this is cheating, the only useful way to answer this is to look at the rules set in place by the card room we are playing at, whether it be online or B&M. Is this cheating ?? Is this ok ?? I must be missing something. Someone quote me the bit of the Stars TOS that considers this cheating, cause I'm not seeing it. The bit I'd expect to see quoted from FTP TOS is this - "Collusion between players by sharing hole cards or by other methods, including but not limited to, chip dumping, talking about a hand before action is completed, or allowing multiple players to share a single account, is strictly forbidden." I read that as multiple players sharing an account, which is far removed from pressing the buttons on your account while asking advice on a hand from others. I'm not ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Would you take a deal heads up in an MTT to make it winner-take-all? A quality hypothetical to demonstrate the impact of utility. If you use the same maths for the SS2 hypothetical, you'll see that taking the flip for your roll is massively +EV. That doesn't mean you should do it. I've got another hypothetical, we flip a coin, if you win you get $10m, if you lose I shoot you dead. Say you've got $50. So you go and grab some trees and some munchies. Fine and dandy, $50 has been used. Now imagine some random non-profit charity group in a 3rd world country. They will take that $50 and stretch the fuck out of it. Saying it's "$50" is a useful way to describe it, ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Matt Affleck - Give the man credit This thread is pretty ridiculous. In fairness though, I think there is room for discussion regarding whether to flat AA or ship (no question that as played is optimal cEV). I don't know the payout structure, and I don't know Matt's financial situation, so I don't know what is correct. When you're playing for stupid money, utility comes into play. Is this spew This is approaching a standard ship on FTP, but is marginal on Pokerstars due to differences in payout structure. What you do is dependent on how others are playing. You could easily have a reship happy 109 FT one day and then a group of ladder-climbers the next. Whether you open ship here or not should have some correlation with how often the players left in the pot reship light as well as how often they defend (and whether they defend well or not). It's not a "we have x BBs from x position with x hand, ship", more goes into it than that. However, a lot of people need to come to the ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Would you take a deal heads up in an MTT to make it winner-take-all? Utility There's no right answer because utility is a relative variable in this decision. For me off the top of my head, I'd need 10X the amount I'm risking in net worth and a pretty healthy edge, but I'm rather risk-averse. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Late reg. killed my ROI Play cash games' Drop down in buy-ins and increase volume' I'd seriously consider one of the two. That "awkward" stage of the tournament should be where you excel, because it's awkward for everyone, and you're supposed to know how to deal with that pressure and exploit the pressure on others. If you're playing too high (which could be where you used to win, or even where you could win now), the utility of the money weighs on your mind and you will play timidly. Hell, the utility of the experience may weigh on your mind if you haven't made a deep run in a while. If you have ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

(blatant sick brag) Eh, that's cool, and it's a solid brag. Let's be honest though, you even hinted at this, all the money (far as mtts are concerned) is in NLHE. If you're good enough to crush mixed game mtts, you'd probably be making more money if you concentrated on NLHE mtts. I kinda wish it was move viable, because I enjoy all different kinds of formats, and you can find me playing a lot of the mixed game stuff come WCOOP/SCOOP/FTOPS. As I was learning NLHE in college I was also learning just about any variant I was aware of at the time (was sort of ringleader of group of players so had a lot of sway in ... Bodog Discussion ITT My thoughts... In general, Bodog has gotten better, there is no denying this. Although it will be slow, I see things improving steadily in the future, a nice change of pace from the slow decline they were still in as recently as 6 months ago. Bonflizubi makes a great suggestion for T$, I agree that a reasonable and effective compromise is to have tickets given out for the buy-in, that can be used for any tourney of that buy-in. In fairness, these "promotions" very often resulted in a tournament with less value than a regular 10k/100k sunday. Once Bodog starts regularly covering the ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Min Raise? This. Was convinced min-raise was the nuts around WSOP time, probably annoyed some people constantly talking about it. Since then I'm back to 2.1-2.6, but bear in mind that my ABI is well under $100. Basically I think min-raising is the nuts for ABIs >$100, but not quite so awesome once you get under a $75 ABI. Dunno why people gotta get their panties in a bunch, this is one of the best threads I've read in a while. Might be useful to explain reverse implied odds though. In a nutshell, it doesn't matter that you're getting 5-1 if you're going to spew half the time. The actual definition from ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Poker etiquette Scummy angle-shooter is not a camp you want to be in. Guy thinks this isn't a "real rule", but it surely is. Do whatever you want within the confines of the rules. Once you go outside those rules, or bend those rules, or claim the rule is something that it isn't, you're an angle-shooter. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Poker etiquette This isn't true. If you bet on the river and I call, you can just muck your hand, and I don't have to show mine to be awarded the pot. If you table a hand, I then have the option to muck or table my hand. The above is standard showdown procedure, but not universal (WSOP tables in position iirc and you have to table a hand to win the pot if opponent mucks). Basically though, it's incredibly clear in Robert's Rules why this rule is in place. If you use the rule to see a hand, you're saying you suspect that person of collusion. If you use the rule to see a hand for the purpose of gaining ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |
