Bodog is going to block SS, pokerDB other sites... and HUDS. who is next? HUDs should be banned. I'm tired of HUD-assisted grinders coming over the top in the $24s :-) That being said, I don't think that other people using HUDs is ever gonna stop me from being profitable, even without a HUD. If I'm at a table long enough, I'm gonna usually get a pretty accurate feel for what's going on, and people that are "running without the ball" will eventually be looked up when the time is right. Is rebuying at the start of an MTT a bad bet? Here are some simplified scenarios re: double rebuys, staying with the assumptions-- $10 rebuy, 1000 people in tourney, equal skill: If everyone else does not rebuy at all and double rebuys are available, here are your choices: Pay $11 for stack worth $10 (9.1% adjusted rake) Pay $21 for a stack worth $19.47 (7.3% adjusted rake) Pay $31 for a stack worth $28.48 (8.1% adjusted rake) So in a 2r 1a, if everybody doesn't rebuy, you get your best deal with only a single rebuy. What if everybody single rebuys' Here are your choices: Pay $11 for a stack worth $10.14 (7.8 % adj. rake) Pay $21 ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Is rebuying at the start of an MTT a bad bet? In large fields, the extra chips you rebuy at the beginning of tourneys are worth only slightly less than your original chips, and the difference in value is overcome by the fact that you are not paying rake on the extra chips. For instance, suppose you buy in the $10 rebuy, there are 1000 players, skill levels are all equal, and you are the only player who rebuys. In this case, your stack, which you paid $20 into the prize pool for, is worth $19.47, so the extra chips are only worth $9.47, according to the Equitable Chip Model, which is basically just a specialized case of ICM where all your ... MTT Variance...how many tournaments is enough to make a determination? I had a streak that ended last year where i was down over the course of approximately 2000 tourneys-- and I was mixing in quite a few smaller field events during that period ( I play a lot of PLO/PLO8). I'm sure there are good players who have had worse streaks than that. There is nothing unusual about your streak, especially if you are primarily playing big field holdem events like the 24+2s, and I would not be worried-- especially if you've kept your profits in play and therefore can absorb a bit of run bad. PLO Hand Review (Feedback Pls) Pot, without question, and hope that someone is glued to TTT or 999. More than half the deck makes a possible straight on the turn-- any K Q J 8 7 or 6, that's 23 cards out of 45 that you have not seen. If you let anyone with a straight draw see the turn, that is a disaster waiting to happen for you. Not only will any straight card on the turn potentially beat you, it will also potentially kill your action from a lower set, because cold calling a pot bet and a pot raise in this spot might look like a huge wrap draw to an opponent who has a set. There are times to slowplay top set, but this ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Petition to stop FTP from ruining Double guarantee's week Cosign-- not a fan of this new feature. This gimmickry is transparently designed to squeeze more rake out of the regulars, rather than doing the work to expand the size of the overall base of players. It's a shame that they are bastardizing double guarantee week, which was a great give-back to their loyal patrons before this. God forbid that they ever have to risk paying any overlay. They might as well call it "Double MTT rake for FTP week." Posted in: Poker Discussion |

so i just binked a new FTP ME tournament but... It is true that each of your marginal additional entries has slightly less EV than your first entry. But if the field has any size to it whatsoever, the difference in EV is going to be so small that it is not worth considering IMO-- you don't even know what your EV is in a tourney exactly anyway, and the fractional drop in EV for your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th entry is totally insignificant when compared to the margin of error inherent in your best guess of what your EV is in the tourney. If you don't believe me, then unregister from a tourney every time a high ROI player registers behind you, ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Need help and advice on breaking out of micros Online (Been playing 4 years) Multi-tabling for me helps me from power-flushing my chips away because of boredom or impatience. Try playing more tables at once. I usually register for 8 to 11 tourneys in a session-- this many games is doable for me in the early stages of tourneys without my results suffering too much and I am pretty slow as far as reaction time. I had to work up to 11 tables so that it didn't feel like spinning plates so much. Usually, by the time antes kick in and I want to pay more attention to individual tables, I have busted down to fewer tables. By the late stages of tourneys, I may be down to only ... Re:Plo h/l hand...look plz The guy has virtually no stats in PLO8, so he could really have limped in with anything. If you haven't observed him getting out of line, I like the fold. Not much reason to play a marginal hand vs. a guy that can bust you. If he's been reraising a lot and has been very active on the other hand, I think you may have considered calling and if something other than a K,Q,J, 8, or heart hits, go for a check raise the turn and hope that he doesn't have the set. Risky, but could win you a really nice pot. You do have a backdoor low going for you as well that could easily bail you out ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Cereus Security issue This could have very well been the same vulnerability that enabled the potripper scandal in the first place and it's just gone unfixed this whole time. Not likely.... potripper was able to know the hole cards of all players, not just individuals. To get that data, an attacker would need access to a router inside the server center or the first hop out before the data stream split out to different locations. Furthermore, the program would have to be able to process a huge amount of data at that point-- sifting thru all of UB's outgoing network traffic, and any other traffic on that ... Re:Poker player indicted on mortgage fraud charges In my role in the title industry, I don't side with or against the poker community, not that it has ever come up before this... I think I help fight any negative stereotypes of poker players through my own conduct away from the poker table, but not through PR. Facts are facts-- this guy was best known to the public as a poker player, and now he's charged with a crime. Don't blame the messenger. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Poker player indicted on mortgage fraud charges Why would I not put it in the article' That's the price of fame-- if you get your 15 minutes and later you screw up, it's absolutely fair game to mention what you are famous for right along with your screw-up, so that the people who know you from your previous fame can make the connection. This guy's 15 minutes of fame just happened to come at a poker table. If a guy who had finished 2nd on Survivor had allegedly committed the same crime, should I purposefully not put that in' Should I leave that out because the public might think "Survivor contestant = criminal'" Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Poker player indicted on mortgage fraud charges You're being a bit defensive. It has to do with poker because the guy's claim to fame in life came from playing poker. There's no connection made between his being a poker player and his alleged criminal activities. He just happens to be a poker player who got a lot of TV airtime in a major poker event, and I know that a lot of people here will remember him... I did. That's why I posted it here. It is what it is. Some will find this mildly interesting, many will not care. I'm a poker player myself, a long-time member and occasional contributor to P5's, and I assure ... Re:Omaha Tourneys - I may be playing too tightly Later in tourneys, when the blinds increase compared to the stack sizes, you will want to loosen up your starting range a bit, and start stealing some. Starting hands with big pairs and unpaired high cards increase in value as you get short stacked, and a lot of hands like ak94 become raising hands in late position if you can open, whereas you would probably want to fold a hand like this early in the tourney. Come in with a raise most of the time rather than limping. Just like holdem, you want to pick up some uncontested pots. And the continuation bet should become part of your late game ... Only on UB.... So, I registered awhile ago for the 10:40 UB PLO $15+r tourney (#4823485). Forgot about it... and then after awhile it pops up... with only TWO PLAYERS. Now any other site would have a minimum number of players, cancel it out, and refund your money. But that's not the worst part of it. We get it all in hand one and I win... and the box pops up informing me that my prize for winning is.... $15! So for winning, I get my money back, minus the $1.50 tourney fee'!! I look in the lobby and the prizes are thus: 1st $15 2nd $9 3rd $6 I guess UB just pockets the $6 for third... nice! Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:the *real* glaring hole in tourney schedules on stars and ftp I certainly would not mind a $20 rebuy PLO8 in the evening on FTP, they could count on me to be in that at least 4-5 times a week :-) PLO8 is basically nonexistent on FTP in the evening. Re:the *real* glaring hole in tourney schedules on stars and ftp This used to be the case, and is still somewhat true probably, but I think there are plenty of USA/western hemisphere players to fill a nightly PLO tourney at the $100 level. The lower buyin PLO tourneys with guarantees fill with hundreds of runners-- generally more than similar tourneys in the morning and afternoon, I believe. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

the *real* glaring hole in tourney schedules on stars and ftp Why is there exactly zero PLO or PLO8 tourneys with a buyin over $30 between 6:30PM and 11:30PM EST on stars and ftp combined' Gotta bellieve that FTP could fill a $69+6 $10k guar. PLO @ 7:45 PM and a $69+6 $10k guar. PLO8 @ 8:45 PM. For stars, how about a $100+9 $15k guarantee at 9PM, PLO8 on MWF and PLO on the other days of the week' I enjoy the $100+9 PLO8 on stars @ 3:30PM and the $30 rebuy PLO at 5:30PM on FTP on occasion. But I have a normal job which often precludes playing those tourneys. Build it and they will come-- put some real PLO tourneys in USA prime time! And.. if the ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:IRS extends deadline for disclosing offshore accounts Unfortunately, I can't agree that reporting poker winnings reduces your chances of an audit. It certainly should be that way, but it's not. I file my poker winnings honestly, and I got audited for my 2006 taxes precisely because I do so. (They wanted self employment tax on my poker income! Needless to say, I fought it, and eventually they dropped the case after I provided them bank statements etc.) That being said, I'd rather face an audit having paid my taxes than worry about the possibility of an audit because I hadn't paid my tax.
