**Official** Ron Paul Presidential Race Thread Pretty sure that Ron Paul announced that he suspended his active campaign to win votes. He is still playing the delegate game, not so much on the campaigning. Posted in: Off Topic |

Junior Seau I think that is what is going to change with a lot of people. They just simply won't let their kids play the sport. And who could blame a parent for taking that step' Obviously there will be plenty of football players still, but I would not be surprised to see a big drop in the talent level in the next generation. Baseball Discussion April 30 - May 6 For the love of god, I hope we don't extend Ethier. I am worried about both length and price. I don't think he is worth anything more than 3 years and nothing more than 12-13M. That said, I can see him getting 5/75...which means we would have him for through his age 35 season. He just isn't good enough to warrant it. He is suspect in RF, has no speed and is clueless vs. lefties (.668 OPS career) The money we would have to pay him is a lot of scratch for essentially a really good platoon candidate. I was really hoping that he would put up good numbers and that perhaps we would struggle ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Baseball Discussion April 30 - May 6 Of course it is inflated, but even so, if it were to come down, it should still be higher than either Gordon or Mark Ellis. Neither of which have a history of being able to get on base. AJ, even in his minor league career has consistently had a walk rate north of 15%. Even if you keep Gordon at lead off, his pitch taking approach would give Gordon plenty of chances to steal. Posted in: Off Topic |

Baseball Discussion April 30 - May 6 I hate him as much as anybody, but a key to the Dodgers having one of the best records in the NL in the second half last year was that James Loney OPS'd over 1.000 for a two month stretch. If he can figure out how to be not a complete bitch, then the Dodgers offense will be just fine. Also, in terms of just having people on base in front of Kemp, they may as well put AJ Ellis up there. He gets on base as much as anyone we have and I could give a fuck about Gordon stealing bases when he never actually gets on base. Posted in: Off Topic |

Baseball Discussion April 23-29 Guerra even before this last week just wasn't very good. Last year, he got by on variance and it is only a matter of time before it comes back to bite him. His fastball is dead straight and he has nothing off speed to off set hitters from just sitting back on that fastball. Every Atlanta hitter tonight knew exactly what to look for and they certainly did not miss. Also, I am getting tired of Mattingly. He is an absolute slave to old convention. He pinch hit Lilly with the lead despite the fact that he had only 79 pitches through 7. In a long season, you really have to look for chances ... Posted in: Off Topic |

**Redsox Nation 2012** I love going to Fenway and all and I recommend it for pretty much every baseball fan, but there is no way that a stadium in which 40% of the field level seats are facing center field is a fucking abomination. Plus, with the reincarnation of the city center stadiums since Camden Yards in the early 90s, Fenway has really only been trying to catch up to the new stadiums in terms of technology and experience. Fenway is turning 100 the same way Joan Rivers turns 70 in that most of her really isn't 70 years old. I would love a waterfront stadium in Boston. It wouldn't be that much less ... Good luck in tonights Megamillion drawing ($363million) Math people: Is there ever a time when playing the lottery becomes +ev' I mean, in theory, if it gets high enough, the average return for a $1 ticket will eventually get over $1. I know it was said that the chances are 178 mil to 1, but the ev level isn't 178 mil because of the chances of splitting. Just curious if anyone knew were the ev point was in terms of how big the jackpot would need to be. Posted in: Off Topic |

** NBA Discussion Thread ** There are win shares that you can find on the pro basketball reference page. Of course the numbers are much higher in basketball than they are in baseball. Whereas 10 WAR is legendary in baseball, MJ in his best years was about 23 WS in half the games as baseball. Right now, LeBron is waaaay ahead this year. I think he is over 10 and the closest to him is Durant at a little under 8. Posted in: Off Topic |

***Official Super Tuesday Prediction Thread*** But these are states like Alaska and North Dakota which haven't gone to Dems nationally in a good long time and any Dem coming from these states tend to be on the more conservative side. The bottom line is that when people think of government assistance, they think of things like welfare, when in fact government assistance often comes in the form of subsidies, research grants, etc. Posted in: Off Topic |

***Official Super Tuesday Prediction Thread*** I may be way off here, but I am pretty sure that these smaller, less populated states receive higher per capita federal spending than bigger, more populated states. The only thing I could find from google is from 2004, but seems to back that up... Also, this would make sense as these states have a more disproportionate representation in congress. Is it fair that a congressman from Wyoming gets paid differently than a congressman from New York City even though they spend 200+ days a year in the same place' Also, the entirety of Congress makes roughly the same amount as 25 Texas Rangers. ***Official 2011-2012 MLB Hot Stove Thread*** Not to be a stickler or anything, but for one, if you look at 2006 Top 100 prospects, Matt Kemp is 96, Ryan Braun is in the 40s, Ethier in the 80s. So take those rankings for what it's worth, but looking over names from 05 and 06, there are a ton of good major league players. Just because they aren't superstars doesn't make them let downs as prospects. Second, you say 0% of 31-40 went on to have sustained success, yet there is Erick Aybar who has two 4+ WAR years and he is still only 28. So even now, there is room for prospects from 2005 to make a name for themselves. But don't be ... Posted in: Off Topic |
