Official First Round of NHL Playoffs Thread There is just no way that is a 25 game type hit. Shea Weber is one of my favourite players, but how do these incidents happen a week apart and result in 25 games and $2500 fine' It isn't that much of a stretch to put the Neal on Coutourier hit in the same category as the Torres one. The Neal hit was much later and IMO had much more intent to injure. Torres got suspended based on his reputation, and while that is part of the criteria, I think it fairly obviously weighed too heavily into it. I think its a travesty he is being suspended for the remainder of the playoffs for that incident. Posted in: Off Topic |

**Official Survivor: South Pacific (Season 23) Thread** Since Jim was the main target in the 2nd vote and Whitney and Dawn are clearly next to go wouldn't it be smart for Whitney to give the idol to somebody in the other alliance right before the vote and try and put doubt in everybodys mind. Doesn't really matter who she gives it to, maybe give it to Coach and hope people panic and vote Brandon or Edna. I'm not saying it has a high probability of working, but its better than the chance they currently have going forward plus it could flush the hidden idol. Whitney also increases her risk minimally since Jim is the vote anyways. Posted in: Off Topic |

Hoarding incandescent bulbs If they're being phased out of production then who cares if one person hoards a bunch for their personal use. If there are 100 million being produced it makes no difference if 100 millon buy 1 each or 1 millon buy 100 as far as the net effect on the environment. Posted in: Off Topic |

Laser Range Finder (golf) How far outside of his 10ft circle is he if the yardage is off by 5 yards' I'd rather have the right yardage and hit an average shot and be 20ft with a wedge than have the wrong yardage and maybe not even be on the green. Posted in: Off Topic |

Which pass interference enforcement do you prefer, college or NFL? I think you could apply both variations of the rule in each league. If you are a college DB and you are defending a throw in the endzone from the 50yd line with 10sec to play in a 6pt game why wouldnt you just drag the WR down if it was a close play and let them set it up at the 35 for 1 play' I think you could implement a 15yd penalty for all infractions occuring before the 2min warning and then apply the spot of infraction variation inside 2min of each half. A similar rule would be delay of game in the first 58min of a hockey game results in a 2min penalty. In the last 2min it results in ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Cavs Owner Rips Lebron I think what he should have done was met with Cleveland first and decided if he wanted to stay or go somewhere else. Once he had decided that he wanted to leave make an announcement that you're not going to be back and let that play out on its own. Then you can have the 'decision' special or whatever and he wouldn't be leaving his hometown in the same class as New Jersey and Chicago and whoever else had a similar chance at landing him as a free agent. Knicks and Nets fans are disappointed, Cavs fans are enraged and embarrassed and I can empathize with that. Also, how do you not have a joint ... Posted in: Off Topic |

BubbaKGB in WSOP #24 I tried to post yesterday after the final table but I was kind of drunk and couldn't log out of Bubba's account to post. He played great all day on day 3 and throughout the final table. It couldn't happen to a better guy and a better representative of this community. If anybody deserves success its Bubba, he has dedicated himself to the game and found the perfect time to finally have some run good! Look forward to meeting some new people at the OT party, and if you need either of us check the 19th hole! Posted in: Off Topic |

Re:Jerry Rice to make professional golf debut today on Nationwide Tour. Why are there sponsors exemptions'' It gives a sponsor the chance to distinguish itself from other tournaments. Anybody that doesn't qualify doesn't deserve to play anymore than anybody else. Almost every tournament has exemptions. When Jerry Rice plays it generates more interest and more people come which creates more money for the other guys in future fields. Who cares if he doesn't "deserve" it. Hes going to help all the little guys you're referring to in the long run. Posted in: Off Topic |

Re:Hedging on a game to protect the value of tickets Thanks for doing all those calculations but I think I was asking an unanswerable question. We will be going if Canada wins so I don't think we can effectively hedge. We will be trying to sell the game if Canada loses before the gold medal game. I think we are best to just buy the tickets and if Canada loses we'll probably lose 500-700 per ticket unless there is another good matchup like USA-Russia. Posted in: Off Topic |

Re:Hedging on a game to protect the value of tickets Odds of reaching the final would be approx 55% of winning vs Russia and then 65% vs Sweden if that helps. Posted in: Off Topic |

Re:Hedging on a game to protect the value of tickets Russia is +125 on the first book I looked at but I can't get odds to win the tournament because the US/Swiss game is in progress. Ideally i'd like to take Russia +1.5 goals at whatever price I have to unless that is retarded. Posted in: Off Topic |

Hedging on a game to protect the value of tickets How would you go about hedging in this scenario: Tickets are $4000 and you expect them to drop to $2000 if the team you hope to see loses' Canada plays Russia today in the quarter finals and would still have to win another game in the Semi-final to advance to the Gold Medal game. We want to buy tickets now at a more reasonable price and then bet against Canada :( to try and protect ourselves from the tickets dropping. What would we have to bet on Russia now, and presumably Sweden in the next round vs Canada to make this less of a risk. Posted in: Off Topic |

Re:Kovalchuk trade.. I can't help but think the Sabres have to be a darkhorse especially if he is traded as a rental and not signed to an extension. They could easily offer a roster player like Pominville, Stafford or Roy who have reasonable contracts and they are fairly deep in NHL ready prospects as well. Something along the lines of Pominville, Weber, a 1st and a depth forward could have them in the running. If he was signed to an extension they may even part with Pominville and Stafford as well as Ennis or Weber and their 1st pick. Atlanta's intentions probably aren't to get only 1 star player ... Re:Phil Kessel going to the Leafs At first I thought they were giving up too much, but as long as the 1st round picks they give up dont end up in the top 10 this is a great deal. Kessel was the 5th pick in a good draft if I recall, and giving up a mid 1st rounder and a mid-late first rounder (god willing haha) + a 2nd for the 5th pick is around the right price. Now factor in that its NOT the 5th pick, but a guy that has established himself as a goal scorer in the league and it starts to look even better, especially since hes only 21. Think of it this way, who is a comparable player in the league today in both age and skilll, ... Posted in: Off Topic |

Re:***Official NHL Free Agency Thread*** At even odds you definitely have the best of it but I will bet $500 they miss the playoffs if we can bet an additional $200 on them not getting out of the first round. So $700 each held by somebody we can agree upon. Posted in: Off Topic |

Re:***Official NHL Free Agency Thread*** I think the biggest mistake people make is they assume a player will be able to do the same things he was doing on his previous team. Hal Gill is not a shutdown defender. He is an anchor in front of his own net on the PK , his partner has to chase the puck into both corners. Hal Gill can't be better than a #4 dman on a good team, he just can't. Keep in mind that Pittsburgh played a puck possession game and its a lot easier to shut guys down when they never have the puck. Unless the Habs get a big strong centre its not going to even matter who they have back on D. Gomez is a #1 centre ... Posted in: Off Topic |
