artiecat your post shows me that you really know very little about the topic. Please do some research. I am not blaming the US. Please read more closely. I am merely saying that with the support of the international community this resolution could do a great deal to help the starving people in north korea better than we did last time around. I am not suggesting that the famine isn't 100% Kim Jong Il's fault nor am I suggesting that the UN or the US is to blame. I am merely saying that this is a serious situation and we need to look past the politics of it and do more than we did the last time ...

But the fact that he only used the food aid to feed his army shows that there wasn't enough to feed his entire population to begin with, correct' That's what would be different about this resolution. There would be enough food for him to feed his army and his people, which there wasn't last time. Sure, he doesn't give a shit about his people, but it does not BENEFIT him in anyway to let them starve either. So if we give him enough food aid to feed them as well as his army, it will be in his own interest to use it.

I just think that the claim that the starvation is entirely Kim Jong's fault, though I agree with it in principle, is somewhat illogical because clearly if the aid that the international community gave to North Korea was only ample to feed his army, then clearly it wasn't enough. Secondly, it has been a long standing policy of the UN to respect the Sovereignty of nations. If the UN questioned the integrity of every government it gave aid to, it would quickly find itself in the business of reforming governments and regime change, rather than relief and humanitarian aid.
