NBA- what a joke
Uhhh Stephen Curry >>> Monta Ellis. Higher: eFG%, TS%, WP48, WS, Reb/36, Ast/36, Net +/- differential. Basically everything. Jesus some serious Ellis overrating here. He just takes a lot of shots.

***NBA Midseason Thread***
Not one Chris Paul mention. WTF' And Amare is not an MVP candidate- the Knicks are on pace for 44 wins in the east- noone has ever ever ever won an mvp on a team that bad. And he's not one of the 10 best players in the NBA. And the Knicks suck. And he hasn't shot this poorly since his second season. And he can't rebound for shit. As of now I'd say my top 3 is Lebron, Paul, Dirk- not sure what order.

Are the Cards on Crack?
Mauer got 8/184 and Tex got 8/180. There's no way in hell Pujols gets less than 10/250 unless he cuts the Cards a huge break. And he'll be worth it too. By the end of his career (assuming a reasonably steady decline) I doubt anyone other than Ruth will be unanimously considered better than Pujols. Anyway, Fangraphs said all this and more (and better) so there's no reason for me to go on... /

Russian owner 'nixes' Melo deal
Players who are clearly better than Carmelo Anthony: CP3 Lebron Howard Kobe Wade Durant Nash Rose Deron Williams Rondo Griffin Ginobili Pierce Garnett Tim Duncan Nowitzki Boozer Horford Josh Smith Kevin Love Pau Gasol The list goes on... I doubt there's anyone here who honestly thinks he's better than any of the following (the above list is merely imo): James, Durant, Wade, Howard, Nowitzki, CP3, Deron Williams, Kobe, Rose, Griffin, Nash, Pierce Is there debate about this' Someone please explain to me what makes Anthony a supposed superstar.

Russian owner 'nixes' Melo deal
Anthony is massively overrated. He's not a top 10 player, never has been. There are teams in the league with 3 players better than him. The uptick in rebounding is a nice sign though, if it sticks.

How is there no Blake Griffin thread?
Him playing a lot of minutes is a bad thing' How' His RATE stats are excellent, and he does it for a lot of minutes. I don't understand your point. Most of your claims/assumptions are unprovable or you know to be utter nonsense. And many of them apply directly to Griffin. I guess we'll have to wait 15 years to see who has a better career.

How is there no Blake Griffin thread?
Have you looked at Dirk's shooting %'s' You obviously have not. What a fail of an argument. And find me players on horrible teams putting up numbers even remotely comparable to Love's. Actually, find a player in NBA history you leads the league in rebounding and shoots 40%+ on 3pa. The Timberwolves are awful- they have 10 wins BECAUSE of Love.

How is there no Blake Griffin thread?
Well, the shitty team argument would apply to Griffin as well. And Love's TS% is .583, which is borderline elite. According to WP48 he's the best player in the NBA, according to WS48 he's 12th, and 6th in overall win shares. He's not just a 'nice' player.

How is there no Blake Griffin thread?
Rampant hyperbole itt... Also this... does not make sense. In one breath Love is better than Griffin at everything, but you have to take Griffin' Love is better atm and is less than a year younger. Also, Dennis Rodman shooting 44% on 3pa is probably the best player in NBA history. I personally have no opinion on the matter, other than the Timberwolves minus Love would go 0-82, and that 40 games is not enough to determine who will be better between these 2.

PED's and Hall of Fame
Bagwell is a lock HOF by any standard. 1500 + RBI and Runs. Palmeiro is the only player to accomplish this and not be a lock HOF. 79.9 WAR- Blyleven is the only non-HOF to have more (and he'll make it in the next 3 years) 149 ops+ - no player has higher ops+ with 7000+ abs and won't be in the hall. Won an MVP, top 3 two other times, top 10 another 3. Huge peak, was never a below average major leaguer (no compiling) No link to steroids either... etc etc. I don't see any argument for him not getting in.

He's averaging 21.1 pts/ 15.7 reb per game. Last player to avg 20/15 in a season was Moses Malone in 82-83. So sick

D Rose 3 @ the buzzer vs. Houston
You are correct, his eFG% is the same. I missed that. Regardless, there's no way that what I said was like arguing W-L, where the runs his team scores is completely independent of the pitcher's actual performance. Rose's WS is 2.0 at the moment, not in the top 25. I know this isn't an end to an argument such as this. My main point is that there is NOTHING in his stat line that suggests Rose is as good as many think he is, yet. And yes, he is improved this year, but still not close to top level. He doesn't approach Paul, Williams, Rondo at his position, nor the relative value of James, ...

D Rose 3 @ the buzzer vs. Houston
I don't mind agreeing to disagree. I will say this- I think most people will consider an elite player as someone who, with more responsibility on the court, improves his play (or at least doesn't decline). In Rose's case, so far this season, with increased responsibility, has come an increase in assists that is pretty much washed away by his poorer shooting % and increase in TO's. I know that stats are not infallible. I understand there's context, game situations etc... However, since Rose's have not been excellent over his 160+ game career, I need to see something before I can consider him ...

D Rose 3 @ the buzzer vs. Houston
You provide a lot of caveats/excuses for Rose's failings. I know he's 22, I know he's extremely talented, I'll take you on your word that he has great work ethic, and I'm not debating his athleticism... However- This is his 3rd season in the league, and so far, in his career: He's not an excellent shooter Has little defensive value (steals, rebounds, blocks) above his position's average Turns the ball over a lot Until this season, his assists were average at best- this year he is above average. So, he may become a superstar in the future, but right now he is not. And Noah is better than ...

D Rose 3 @ the buzzer vs. Houston
He is not shooting the ball efficiently, he leads the league in FG attempts per game- therefore he is scoring a lot of points. He is nowhere to be found on the Assists/TO ratio leaderboard (where CP3 leads). Paul leads the league in steals. Just Paul vs Rose- Paul beats Rose in every single category except scoring points (and Rose scores 8.8 pts for the extra 9.5 shots a game he takes). As for Rose himself- your defense of him relies on, generally, the Bulls not being very good (lack of Boozer, no jump shooters). First, is there evidence that jump shooters help more than inside scorers (such ...

D Rose 3 @ the buzzer vs. Houston
Chris Paul is easily MVP at this point. Even a cursory look at CP3's numbers vs. Rose's show Paul to be vastly superior. Edit: I actually think Rose is dramatically overrated and shouldn't be in the MVP discussion, but as long you shoot the ball a lot people will think you're great.

Howard is 14th among 1st basemen in OPS this season. He hits HRs, and does nothing else above average. His decline is going to be rough.

Detroit, Oak, Stl, maybe KC for overs. Considering the books take -120, or even worse, it is not possible to make money taking any side of 7.5-8.5 totals. Fade the high and low numbers.

Re:Best Closer in MLB?
Gotta agree with Waco's top 3. I wanna throw out Chad Qualls. I get that hes only been a 'closer' for this season, but hes been quite good every year he's been in the league, and he's getting better it seems. I'd bet by any reasonable measure of value he comes out as probably one of the 12 best relievers in baseball since 2004. Obv he's not in my top 3, but he's very good and noone ever mentions him.

Re:best pitcher in baseball
True, but my main point is Petco is the insane pitchers park (both sources agree), and SF is not (both sources agree). If you sort it by HRs, philly was #1 in 2007, middle of the road in 2008. Petco dead last in 08, 2nd to last in 07, with SF 13 and 24 respectively. Philly is known for its HRs, maybe the rest of it plays normal.

Re:best pitcher in baseball
In the lifespan of Petco players BA is .239. Petco is extreme, it is not close to SF. And obv in the Lincecum/Santana argument you wouldn't take parks into effect, cuz Citi Field is huge. SF is actually a good park for RH power hitters. Looking at Baseball-Reference, SF's park factor is 100 (exactly avg) while SDs is 90. Other sources agree that its not close, but I don't have them onhand. Further, look at Peavys career splits. Home107107423000031705.1567230222502047532.831.09.220Away100100463700032608.0567280258842225643.821.30.245 Anyway, you are wrong, SF is not an insane ...

Re:best pitcher in baseball
For the next 5-7 seasons I'm taking Lincecum as best pitcher in baseball. I don't mind if you say Santana, I wouldn't disagree. Some reasons: Age- there's an extreme attrition rate for all pitchers, the younger the less injury risk. Lincecum is 5 years younger. Age, again- there's little developmental curve for pitchers, they are generally at their best when they are young. While hitters will peak between 26-29, pitchers are usually much younger. Performance/Sample Size- other than the injury argument, which is just a guess, this is not a factor. Find me pitchers that ...
