Re:someone explain this (conversation between eric liu and david benyamine)
This is just not an apples to apples comparison. The HSP episode deals with a person being accused of taking chips out of play on one table. This Benyamine episode deals with him quitting one table while still playing on three others. The two are very different as is live vs. online etiquette.

Re:someone explain this (conversation between eric liu and david benyamine)
I used to adhere to proper etiquette when playing online... until I was hit and run about 50k times and had to wait every single hand for the one schmuck playing 12 tables to act. Now I simply accept that online you sit when you want to sit and leave when you want to leave. I don't like it but can't fight it either. Oh, and always make sure to raise and uncheck autopost if your cash game gets heads up outta the blue and you get the small blind. That guy is leaving 9 times outta 10, would absolutely raise and sit out if it were his small blind, and is more concerned with hitting sit ...

Re:Was this a bad play or just a bad result?
Was a $75 tournament and he was two off button, so mid-late pos, really. I was a little surprised he called w ajo but given his odds and the shot I am making a move I don't think I hate the call. I'm thinking maybe I should be calling in his spot more often, really. I usually fold in his situation...

Was this a bad play or just a bad result?
I play mostly cash games with a tournament here and there. I made this play last night and would like some feedback on whether or not it was a good spot for this move. My image at this table was rock tight if anyone was paying attention as I had been card dead for most of the tournament. Thanks for the help all!! p.s. What do you think of his call' p.p.s. Apparently he went on to win the tournament. Re(1): Does variance go against why we play in the first place?
I happen to emphatically agree with Aces and Spectre. I think most people have no idea how much luck plays a role in mtts. I feel I have been exceptionally unlucky in key spots and it has seriously hampered my progress. I play cash almost exclusively now as a result of this frustration. On a related note... If it is true that one needs an almost prohibitively large sample size (for live tourneys) for variance to have little to no effect on one's profitability, is it appropriate at all to say that a Negreanu or Hellmuth is a good tournament player. Both have been very successful in live ...

Re(1): Did Moneymaker make a HUGE blunder?
This is really pretty common, although in a longer term arrangement, it will generally be 50/50 with makeup. In cases like this its generally just a guy that wants to subsidize his buyin and doesn't mind giving up some of his win. Really, the guy getting backed is effectively just playing in a smaller buyin event. I see guys put up 10% of a tourney buyin for 10% of the action all the time. When I see it, its a very casual agreement during a live session, too, amongst friends (i.e. "oh, you're heading out to play in the main event' How bout I give you a dime for 10%'" "Cool." "Ok, here (hands ...

Re(1): Cash game hand . Please settle this debate (pot odds, implied odds, pot equity)
If you check with ak at any point in this hand, you should have your head examined. This is .25-.50 NL. You are losing WAY to much value by trying to keep a pot small on this board with tptk. You will get called by any king on the river by a TON of players at this level and possibly any pair between 7 and K. You could consider folding if you had been checkraised on the turn but other than that, you should be looking for value out of your hand as you did. As far as the villain's play, well, I don't like it. He's not getting appropriate pot odds or implied odds. If he thinks his 7 might be ...

Re(3): Cash Gamers: Ending session and take a huge beat
The point is that you are not seeing them for free. Your mindset has changed and you will not be playing optimally. The blinds are not nearly the factor they are in limit. When you make the decision to quit for the day, just quit. Also, when you got the aces cracked, you still should have just quit when you were going to. Nothing changed except your mood.

I bet I can, but it has to be a decent sized bet as I will have to order the spreadsheets. It is an absolute certainty that it has happened that many times. What about the ridonkulous upsets in college footbal this year' Are those evidence of fixing as well' For what it's worth, I agree that games are fixed. I just know that more than 5 5pt favorites have lost by 20 or more in the last 10 years. I used to have a spreadsheet of the last 15 years of nfl games with lines and results and did a lot of research and number crunching on it. Re(1): Petition for Pokerstars and Full Tilt to end player to player transfers *edit* or set reasonable limits
I think that this is a great idea if there are limits set on the transfers. With all the people upset with this idea, I wonder if anyone ever just deposits some money online and builds their bankroll up through winning anymore' Wtf' Why would a winning player need constant transfers' Are you winning' If you need the constant transfers you can't be unless you're just cashing out and waiting for your next transfer. Now, if you are using transfers to cash out, you are saying that you are concerned about avoiding taxes basically as it shouldn't be a big deal for you to just get a check if not. I ...

Ghosting is morally worse than buying an account ala Imp or ActionJeff
I haven't been on the forum for a while and came back to find this controversy about Sorel. I don't know him, although I did meet him briefly at a Bellagio 2.5k event this summer. He seemed like a nice enough guy for the 10 minutes I sat with him. I believe that a player playing a tournament while being ghosted by one or more players is morally far worse than buying another individual's account deep in a tournament. At least when an individual buys another person's account, they are taking on a certain amount of risk in that they have to pay much more than the entry fee for the tournament ...

So, do you suppose she meant when she plays higher stakes or when she burns' Why would she block the chat when she smokes' Doesn't it make just a little more sense that she would block the chat when she is playing for higher stakes' Buncha potheads (I smoke occasionally, btw) looking for a kindred spirit maybe'

Re(1): tipping the dealer in live cash games
I tip $1 per pot that saw the flop, $2 for good sized pots, and $5 for a really big pot if I'm having a good day. Honestly, that is probably overtipping. A good dealer should get out 30-40 hands per hour. If everyone just tipped a buck on every pot, the dealer would be making more than most people at their jobs, though. $1 per pot really should be sufficient regardless of the stakes or size of the pot.

Yeah, I thought it was a stretch and knew a few sites used props, but I thought it was odd that they were specifically looking for props at high stakes heads up and short handed. I don't like the idea of prop players at any rate. No problem, though, and thanks for the responses!!

Absolute was recruiting prop players in high stakes games a couple years ago
When I was in Vegas for the WSOP Main Event a couple years ago (the year Hachem won), I kind of buddied up with one of the guys at my first day table. We played together almost all day and went out for a couple drinks after day one completed. He asked what limits I played. I told him 15-30 and 30-60. He asked if I ever played heads up or higher stakes. I said not really but asked why. He said that he knew some of the guys at Absolute Poker (pretty new site back then) and they were looking for prop players to play 100-200 and 200-400 heads up and short to "keep the games going and accomodate ...

Re(1): Would you use a superaccount?
I would absolutely 100% no ifs ands or buts use it and so would 98% of the population. On another note, I have felt swindled many times playing poker online. Every time I feel that way I'm reminded of a quote I read from a Vegas old-timer... "If you're gambling in a game where the outcome is not determined live (ie sports), you deserve to get skinned." That would be how I felt about all the buffoons who have insisted all this time that online poker isn't rigged as it would cost the sites too much. WHERE ARE ALL THOSE PEOPLE NOW' A MAJOR site just either fell victim to or was behind the ...

Re(5): Is limit holdem profitable?
Having played both for a living, i can tell you drphil that limit swings are MUCH greater than NL swings. Limit poker was invented to allow the fish to keep their money longer and therefore keep the rake going. Donkeys can run hot in limit and book more than a few monster winning sessions in a row. It's much more unlikely for this to happen in NL. They will simply get their money in bad one too many times and lose everything in front of them. I'm not sure about the swongs of each, though' ;)

How many hands to verify profitability or lack thereof?
I have recently made a switch to playing PLO cash almost exclusively. I have been using pokertracker to track my results/analyze my play. Anyone have any thoughts on how many hands I would have to have played to have a reasonable estimate of my profitability' I honestly don't know this number for holdem, but would think it would be a bigger number for omaha due to the higher variance of the game. Any thoughts' Thanks for the help!

I'm not generally a DN defender, but what's so bad about this' First of all, he's going to visit someone who is dying... pretty classy. Secondly, he started off initially just making a joke about it and when dummy wouldn't stop pestering him about it, he basically said what he was doing without trying to sound like mr. good samaritan about it. I just don't understand why people want to find any little thing about a celebrity and bash them about it. Re(1): Most over-rated poker book of all time?
I think to say supersystem is overrated displays a lack of understanding of the history AND nature of the game. When this book was written, the typical player Doyle was playing against was a nit... peddling the nuts and folding far too easily. Therefore, Doyle was able to win alot of money pushing draws against these individuals. Without you knowing it, him advising playing draws this hard is the first discussion of fold equity in the history of poker without using the term. His premise is simple. You will fold often enough when he pushes these draws this hard to make it profitable when ...

Dyz, please explain your contention that "most baseball players agree that the difference between someone hitting .300 or .275 in a season comes down to a couple of lucky hits that fell in for the .300 hitter." This statement is silly. This would only be the case if both players had about 100 at bats. You don't know "most baseball players" to know what they agree on or not and the math of this statement is unsupportable.
