Re:My New Book
Well, I definitely could not do it justice explaining it in a short posting two years after I read it. But, basically, it is *a lot* of moves, based on either position, your cards, or your stack. And then firing three bullets post-flop a lot. The idea being that it will get you knocked out a lot, but the tournaments are so fast that you have no time to wait for good cards. One of the interesting tasks he has you do to learn his position moves is to play a few tournaments "in the dark" online (actually cover up your cards with a piece of paper taped onto your monitor). This gives ...

Re:My New Book
Worthwhile read if you play fast-structured MTT. Even if you decide not to follow his extremely unorthodox approach to these types of tournaments, it's worth knowing that some people are playing them this way and what they're thinking. After I read it I only made a few attempts to incorporate his approach wholesale, so I have no opinion on whether or not it actually works. I do find myself incorporating a few of his moves though.

Re:Is poker tracker legal, and or allowed on ft ps?????
Correct, not allowed on Cake. Or, at least, on Doyle's Room - I'm presuming all of Cake. In fact, it's set up so it doesn't work. The first time I opened a DR table when I had it running, I got a popup explaining that it is not allowed there and so would not operate for those tables. Works like a charm on FTP. I wouldn't consider playing without it. Pays for itself quickly. FYI to anyone who has balked at the $90 price: they just released a $45 Micro Stakes version (handles SNGs up to $11).

Re:lawyers/ law students
If it were me, I wouldn't mention it at all. I don't like the risk/reward ratio. I don't think the pluses are many (anything you want to illustrate with poker you should be able to illustrate with other parts of your life), while the risk is just too high that the person reading it only sees "degenerate gambler" on the page. Enjoy law school. It's an intellectually simulating experience. Good thing you're 3+ years from exiting it, because the job market is brutal!

Re:online gambling article written by clueless Univ of Illinois professor
Granted it's from 2006, but I saw an interesting comment in an article called "Calling A Lemon A Lemon: Regulating Electronic Gambling Machines To Contain Pathological Gambling" (Northwestern University Law Review - Spring 2006): "Electronic Gambling Machines [video slots, cards, etc] are due special attention in any attempt to address pathological gambling. While pathological gambling can arise from any form of gambling, EGMs now represent the most popular form of casino gambling, and of all forms of gambling, empirical data indicate that EGMs are associated with the more ...

Re:My reply to John W. Kindt
Props to you for taking the time to articulate your thoughts and send them into him. I hate to be the negative person in the thread, but there are a few things that undercut your arguments to him (sorry, it's my line of employment to notice these things - can't help it). First, the guy never mentioned poker in his article. As we all know, poker is a game of skill and needs to be carved out from the games of chance if we hope to have any chance to get a solid legal status for our game. It's quite possible every single argument he's making is about the games of chance on the ...

Re:Extra $1,000 for knocking out P5ers on Doyles
I play it every week - happy to have the extra incentive though! FYI for anyone signing up for Doyle's Room: for your first Bounty tournament, they refund back to you the $27.50 entry fee.

Re:FTP Doug, how come no one ever responds to emails at ftp?
I have to give Doyle's Room credit for having a 24/7 chat support feature. I've used it many times and it's cool to be able to get ahold of someone live within 30 seconds. Now if they just had an actual decent-sized player pool and a security PIN (among other things), I could play there more...

Re:why cant i just say no !?!?
OP, I feel for ya. I don't say this to be a jerk, but based on the quoted statement above and the general feel of your comments, I'm guessing you lack a fundamental understanding of how to play SnGs optimally (there are plenty of times when 53s would be a good call there, depending on a whole host of factors). I suggest you get ahold of one of these two books: 'Sit 'n Go Strategy' by Collin Moshman or 'Secrets of Sit'n'gos' by Phil Shaw. You may even be able to get ahold of them without spending any money (library' my first poker books were library ...

Re:A Legal Case Response to Ryan Welch Situation
Cliff notes version: he gave the info freely BEFORE he made an "offer". At the time he made his offer, there was nothing to give. At the time of the bargain, it was all one-way. Same as the classic law school scenario: A: "give me $500 for my birthday" B: "OK" It's a non-binding promise, as A offers nothing at the time of the bargain (no consideration).

Re:A Legal Case Response to Ryan Welch Situation
As several attorneys have explained on previous pages, arguing contract law is not going anywhere, because the elements of a legal contract are not present here (namely, consideration). Due to lack of consideration, there is no valid offer, and therefore no acceptance. Most of the RJ backers seem to be saying this is not about a legal contract, but about a moral or integrity issue. But if you're gonna come back to the law as an argument, this set of facts is a non-starter.

Re:This is a very interesting post...to say the least
Actually, it has everything to do with it. An agreement is all about INTENT. Both sides have to intend to make an agreement. So if he tells you he uses "def" a lot and it doesn't always mean "yes" (which it the import of what he said), then that is highly relevant to whether or not it meant "yes" this time. After reading about 15 pages of this thread, I'd say it's impossible to say one way or the other. But, based on all the aspects of it, I don't think RW ever agreed to this. And surprisingly, I'm not coming out of this with negative ...

Re:This is a very interesting post...to say the least
I thought it was kinda lame that you're trying to minimize Welch's offer of $100 by claiming it's one-hundredth of one percent, when it's really not even close to that, so I called it out. The shady argument tactic was more significant than the dollar amount, actually.

Re:Hey Detroit
After 5 months of chasing 1st place Detroit, this looks so damn good: Central W L GB L10 STRK Detroit 85 76 - 4-6 L3 Minnesota 85 76 - 7-3 W3 That being sad, I've been hearing a lot about how badly Detroit needs this as a city, psyche-wise (is it true that 7 of 10 murders go unsolved there'''). And it does make me feel a little bad if we take it from you. I'd much rather see White Sox fans suffer... We're coming! (inside MN sports reference)

Re:Las Vegas low buy in tournys..
There are several sites you can find via Google with listings of all the tournaments in Vegas. That said, when I went two months ago, I found the info not always up-to-date. I played at the Luxor daily and their games were soft IMO, so here's the info I posted in a similar thread that might help you (note: info correct as of 8-10-09): ------------------- I just got back from staying at Luxor. I didn't play the cash games, but it was usually 1/2, sometimes 2/4. My friends seemed to think they were fairly soft. I played 5 tourneys (4 STT and 1 MTT) there. The $55 STT was VERY soft. ...

Re:I SERIOUSLY need help..
To make an analogy: "Guys, I called my 2 outer with 2:1 pot odds and I HIT IT!" "Lol at everybody bashing me since I hit my 2 outer last night without odds" You're gambling, not playing poker. If you continue with the bankroll management that you're embracing, you are very unlikely to be a long-term winner. Sorry, that's the math. You may still overcome it, but if you do, it will be due to luck, not skill (I mean that in a bankroll vs. variance sense, not in how well you play the hands). That being said, I hope you succeed, as I hope we all do!

Re:Doyle's room
I haven't played most of the games recently or enough to have any good info on them, but I do play the $27.50 Wednesday nite Bounty a fair amount. Most of the field is pretty soft, though I've run into a few very solid players at the FT. BTW, everyone gets their first Wednesday Bounty entry fee returned to them after the game (make sure you read the directions on how to claim it VERY CAREFULLY before you do it). Since you said you haven't played there yet, make sure you do that - free $27.50!

Re:Name of Poker Show?
I use Google to search individual sites. As a general rule, Google destroys most sites' built-in search capability. Go into Google Advanced Search, enter in the "Search within a site or domain:" field, and search away! I do this for almost all sites I want to search. You can also use the site: smart command in any Google search and make it real easy. For example, go to Google and search for: 2M2MM and you're good to go. Google actually has a lot of useful smart commands that most people aren't aware of.
