Back Taxes?
Without a doubt there will be tax consequeses IMO to people that hadn't been paying their taxes. From the approach taken so far the 1st parties they will go after will be the affilliates that get paid in cash through the sites. While many of the affiliates have paid their taxes and file corp returns etc such as I'm sure P5's and other large affiliates have there are a ton of affiliates that have been running websites that have been paying nothing. This is the part that is going to get ugly IMO. I would expect rakeback will be incorporated in the mix and of course they will target players ...

Re(2): What do U Top MTTers Do After a REALLY bad beat?
I think it might be a bit different for a few bad beats as compared to what might seem like a never ending string over a significant period of time in key situations say a couple of months. I would imagine it makes a difference as to how often they are playing. Definitely agree that managing the bankroll well is a key to doing better over time.

emily, sounds like you have a good attitude about the situation now. I don't know what you said to get banned but if you embarrassed yourself in reading it then that is a pretty good indication you want to be more responsible and mature as you said.

Re(1): Bill Frist really made a mess
Like most laws that get introduced this was created by idiots. Worst of all it was passed by idiots. People who are representatives of the citizens of the U.S. rarely do their jobs and look out for anything other than their own personal agenda's. Be you republican, democrat, or independant there is no lack of dissappointment to go around when it comes to public officials. A that being said, in the end it is us the people that are responsible because we don't get involved until something effects us. This was a very good example of complacency on our parts biting us in the ass. Hopefully, ...

Re(3): Tough hand w/ QQ deep in the $77 6 Max MTT
yeah, This was tough for me and I've had various people tell me that I should be getting my chips in regardless of my read in this spot every time to chip up at this stage of the tourney. In the past I have been able to get away from the hand if I had a similar stack and my read was that a big hand flatted me and they weren't bluffing. In this case I knew darn well that my raise was good to define my hand at this table and if I didn't get flatted behind preflop I"m just looking to avoid an A or K on the flop. When I got flatted I'm thinking "Shit" I have 20 BB's left and that is plenty to ...

Tough hand w/ QQ deep in the $77 6 Max MTT need input
Lately I've been getting flatted behind in similar situations and stacks by players w/ AK and even less and I had been getting my money in good and then poof spike goes the Ace on the river or something else. That kind of influenced my play a bit. There were about 27 players left. I had a pretty good feel for the table and when I got flatted behind I did believe their strength. I raised up the way I did preflop believing that would define my hand to this table pretty well and that my stack was to big to just shove. I could have raised a bit more but didn't feel it necessary given the play ...

Re(4): Questionable call or did i get my soul read
I'm not sure what you were trying to accomplish with your play outside of wasting some chips. Forget what the villian had and how they played their hand. Why did you play the hand the way you did' You need to set the tone for what was going on a bit better. K5 off in the blind and just feeling like seeing a flop is like saying I'm tired of looking at these chips in my stack so I'll just give some away!

Re(1): baaaad run, advice needed
dckb Well, variance works for you and against you. It sounds like you actually had a very nice run where you were winning some things and placing high enough in MTT's,SNG's ,Cash, or what ever you played. No doubt during that run you had the AA vs KK and you had the A high flush to beat the K high flush. You probably had your fair share of key suck outs as well. Every player experiences bad runs and good runs of varying durations. One thing you don't want to do is to make bad decisions to compound the downturn. Take some time to review your records. That is if you keep them and hopefully ...

Re(1): Surviving Rebuy periods
freeworld77 The 1st thing you may want to do is look at the value of the tornament itself and not the buy in. If you have a $25K, $35K, etc. gaurantee then the tourney has to be worth a certain amount of money aside from the $3 or $5 initial buy in. There is no question that the value easily amounts to or exceeds 10 total buy ins including the add on. In most cases the value exeeds 10 buy ins I would say. Then look at the size of the field. While it isn't impossible to get through a field of 2,000+ with only 2 buyins + your add on ( just ask sheets about his win in the $5 rebuy where he ...

Re(1): Can i maximize my value here?
Emily, you already know this but from the flop on the only way you are going to be able to build that pot is if you have someone else that has a big enough hand like a set or they have a draw that they are willing to over value a bit. If someone had a big flush and straight draw on the flop you were going to get more action for sure. If someone hit a set of of Q's or even 8's you aren't losing anyone on the turn for a reasonable price but just like when you hit a set in NL you aren't getting paid off in a big way if your opponents aren't complete donkeys or if they don't have big hands ...

Re(1): time for a serious confrontation?
Ozzie, there are always people like your friend. Poker is filled with people that put their ego out there more than it would make sense to if you are rational. Some friends will listen to you if you tough on the subject and let them know what you do and others will be offended and start talking trash about you because you wounded their ego. All you can do is what you believe is the right thing to do and not make to much of it if you confront your buddy. If they take offense like a drug addict when they are confronted by there peers and start going on the offensive then they most likely ...

Emily, slightly off the subject I'm concerned that you are playing at stakes that you may not be able to afford' Don't take it the wrong way but I noticed you are quite young and at that age not everyone has the kind of money it takes to properly bankrolll 3/6 and 5/10 PLO cash games. Question for top MTTers on playing low pairs late in tourney
I have noticed a number top players that are willing to call in a variety of situations with low pairs for a significant percentage of their stacks when they could have easily given it up or never played it in the 1st place. The pairs I've witnessed have been in the 33 -66 range and the situations are that the players are deep in the tourney and usually with 27 or less players left at the time. The stack situations have allways been that the call has been made with a larger stack than the opponent so the entire tourney isn't at risk but we are talking amounts between 1/3rd and 3/4's of ...

Dealer abuse has been out of hand for some time. I just don't know why people feel the need to be so abusive and blaming others for their missfortunes. I see it at alot of places and I wish all card rooms made some hard rules against it.

Re(1): Vegas hotel for a vegas newbie
For what you described it will be worth it to stay on the strip. It will depend on the dates but many of the hotels will have special rates. Poker room rates aren't usually a great discount but they are better than nothing. Hotels that have deals in no particular order are: Flamingo- great location where you can easily walk to Bally's, Ceasars, Mirage, Bellagio and a few others. Mirage- a pretty good pool area for your girlfriend. Mandalay Bay- they do have special rates from time to time that are worth it and "The Hotel at Mandaly Bay" --- There are actually 3 hotels ...

Re(1): My omaha hot streak had to end i guess
that was a tough hand Emily. I've seen you post on you PLO hands recently and it seems like you have been doing pretty well so good job and keep it going. I will say this tough, I don't like your bet on the flop so much. I think that $12 bet into an appox. $36 pot with KJ4 rainbow flop seems on the surface to be not bad to alot of people but in Omaha and 5 other players in the hand you are inviting alot of hands to see the turn for a good price. If a straight card comes you aren't happy. Don't get me wrong, I don't think you are getting rid of the player with a set of 4's with a pot size ...

Re(1): bankroll questions?
pass, you asked what I think are very good questions and made some points at the same time. When most people ask questions about bankroll management "BM" it usually starts and ends with how many buy ins, big bets, etc. do I need to play at a given level' When can I move up levels and when do I need to move down' IMO - that stuff is just a spec of info and is really a model based upon averages much as a black jack player would use. To me, and I know I'm a bit of a nut when it comes to the subject, BM is more akin to a business plan. It takes time to construct and time to work on. The ...

Re(2): Do you pay taxes on poker money won in another country?
In Joe Hachem's case I beleive it was reported that he as an Australian citizen does not have to pay taxes on poker winnings in Australia. I'm not sure if that was becasue he won the money in the U.S. or if it is because they just don't require taxes to be paid on this at all' As for U.S. players, no matter where you win it I believe you are obligated to report it and pay taxes on it as income per the tax code. There has been some debate on that and I am not certain but I believe this is correct.

Re(1): "I put you on AK"
yeah, the most common hand that most will automaticly assume someone has is AK . I believe that has been discussed here before. As far as your hand. You pretty much were fortunate to have an opponent make a really bad play regardless of his read. The big thing you have to watch out for with a hand played exactly as you did is a set. No pun intened but that is how you get set up with AA when 88 or 55 calls you preflp and the shove reading you for a big over pair and trying to bait them with it. Thank knife cuts both ways . Most of the time crap like QJ won't call your big raise preflop. ...

Re(3): Right or wrong to shove on the flop here
Damage you pretty much hit the nail on the head of what I regretted most. While I was trying to mix things up a bit with my preflop raises in this spot I should have raised at least 3.4 -4x's and might have avoided the whole mess. On the other hand the villian in this case is very pissy about their blinds and I've seen them on sevral occasions shove back with junk and be willing to exit early just for the sake of defending their blinds with a bad hand. Still I should have raised more
