Poker Room Rates in Ft. Lauderdale and Naples? I'm making a trip to south central Florida to visit a friend and am wondering which casinos near Naples and Ft. Lauderdale have poker room rates. My buddy has to work while I'm down there so I figure I might as well play poker during the day and get a cheaper room to stay in if possible. Thanks for everyone's help! Re(4): Hotels in Wheeling, WV Thanks man, but I'll take care of booking. You don't have anything on The Wheeling Inn' It's not a chain, so that might be why. It's the closest hotel to the casino, less than a mile away from it. EDIT: And thanks again for your help, very generous of you to do all this. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): Hotels in Wheeling, WV Thanks man, that's very generous, but I'm wondering more about the quality. The Wheeling Inn has availability and is $69/night for Friday and Saturday, but the online reviews of the place range from "This place is awesome, super clean, nice people" to "This is the dirtiest place I've ever stayed, horrible staff, etc." I'm basically wondering if it's a decent place, or whether the surrounding chain places are decent. Re(2): Hotels in Wheeling, WV If I had a long weekend I'd consider it, but I don't, and Wheeling is only a 2 hour drive. I was just in Vegas a couple months ago, too. Thanks though, I like the idea almost any other time. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Hotels in Wheeling, WV I'm thinking of making the drive to Wheeling from Columbus this weekend and am wondering if anyone's played there recently. I'd like to stay somewhere cheaper than the casino and am thinking of the Wheeling Inn, but the reviews I've found of it online are very mixed. Anyone stayed there, or anywhere else close to the casino' Or should I just pay the extra $80-100 a night and stay at the casino' Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(3): Rules Question from a 2/5 Hand I Played Yeah, he really was. Just unthinkingly aggressive. I suppose there's a chance he thought Noob didn't have a Jack, and that by pushing me out he might have a chance to win the main pot. But I believe it was clear to everyone at the table that Noob had trips or better. Either way, he really was that big of a donk. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): Rules Question from a 2/5 Hand I Played Thanks for the response, I think this result makes the most sense to me. Since I acted before seeing the exposed cards, the other guy potentially has the chance to act based on information I didn't have before making my decision. I'm still not entirely sold on the idea that he should be allowed to retract his bet when I tried to let him know that the cards had been exposed. But your way of doing things definitely seems fair to me. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): So never fold KK??? I think you can fold KK in the right spot preflop but I don't think this is it. He may have put you on a re-steal of his late position raise. I don't think this is a situation that screams AA, which is what I need to fold KK. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Rules Question from a 2/5 Hand I Played This situation arose when I was playing at a nearby casino last night. I'm dealt J-10 in the BB, 6 limpers. Table had been playing loose and passive, save for an Aggrodonk 5 spots to my left who made it $100 to go preflop numerous times with no prior preflop raises, for instance. Flop comes J-J-2 rainbow. I'd been playing pretty tight to that point and thought a bet would scare people away, so I check. Noobie to my left bets $15 into the $35-ish pot, folds to Aggro-donk, he calls, folds to me, I call. Turn is a 4, still rainbow, I check, Noob makes it $40, Aggrodonk raises to $100 (big ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): Florida Poker Limits increased - officially This is going to present some interesting questions of interpretation. You're exactly right about what the bill technically allows: any size NL game, so long as the minimum required buy-in isn't over $100. The irony is that LIMIT games can only have a $5 max bet. So you could have $10/20 NL but only much smaller LIMIT games, which is the exact opposite of how things normally are, which is evidence that the legislature probably didn't mean what it actually said regarding NL games. It's a general legal principle that the language of a statute is the most important tool for interpreting it, but ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(4): Has NL Lost Its Art? Poker is evolving, no doubt. And it's possible for a player to remove all their leaks and retain earlier traits, sure. But calling someone down with crap, chasing flushes for big bets, etc., are precisely the kinds of "leaks" people need to remove to be long-term winners. For every leak a person doesn't close, they lose money. You should be glad there are people with leaks. The point is to expolit the leak. If a player has closed most of his leaks but still has an earlier trait that's a leak, he's a worse, not better, player than he would be if he didn't have that leak. Why is this difficult ... Re(2): Has NL Lost Its Art? The higher limits only draw the lower limit players who are *good.* They don't draw the ones who make the dumb calls you're concerned about. The people who make those dumb calls get lucky once in awhile, but soon run out of money. You're worried about the traits of unsuccessful low limit players "infecting" the higher limits, but (unfortunately!!) that won't happen because it's the successful low limit players who move up and stay, not the unsuccessful ones. Pearl River - Philadelphia, MS It's the closest casino to me and I'm thinking of heading there this weekend. I know from a previous post that they spread maybe 15 games per night on the weekends, but I'm wondering how late these games generally go before they break down. It's not gonna be worth saving a few hours of driving time if the games all break up by midnight/1AM. Anyone have any info, or any general comments/recommendations on Pearl River' Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(3): Does late night competition suck? It's neither I guess, it just is what it is. If you're a glass-half-empty guy, you look at that and say, "Man, the competition during the day is better." If you're a glass-half-full person, you say, "Nice, the competition late at night is weaker." Regardless of how you look at it, it's good to know when the competition is worse, just like it's good to know *where* the competition is worse, which kind of cash table (e.g., aggressive, tight, mixed) you do best at, which kind of tourney structure you excel at, etc. Socrates out.
