Spot late in the Daily Thirty Grand
I am about 20th in chips with 40 players left. My read on the villian is that he overcalls with mediocre hands. Big stack limps in LP. Villian limps in SB. I check in the BB. I had not seen how he plays a big draw. There is 25K in the pot to start every hand. I have 270,967 chips. I have a couple questions about the hand. I am a believer in the philosophy of pot control, especially with a hand of moderate strength. The problem is weighing pot control versus the vulnerability of the hand. There is a flush draw on the board and I dont like to give free cards when I think there is a decent ...

Re:Spot deep in $22 [20K guaranteed]
Conclusion: I called. He had AQ. He hit an ace on the river. And I was put into shove/fold mode w/the 3rd smallest stack in the tournament. I knew that the 'numbers' were to call and that is why I did make the call. I just know some people would prefer to protect the size of their stack that, to this point, has been allowing me to pick up lots of uncontested pots. I am not upset at the way I played the hand. I just know some people like that philosophy. I think the majority though look at nothing but +ev or -ev in making decisions.

Spot deep in $22 [20K guaranteed]
Deep in 20K guaranteed. 35 players left. I have an average chip stack. I have no real read on the villian. This is one of those spots that I want to hear what other people think. I had been picking up pots preflop w/o showdown and keeping my stack at about the same level. I think I am ahead of enough of his range to make this call and I have him outchipped. His M is low enough to justify a decent shove range. But do some people prefer to maintain their stack size to continue to pick up pots without showdown. If I call and lose I am in shove/fold mode all the sudden. Thnx for any opinions ...

Re:Anyone sweating the 200 Seat on stars?
Paying 3.2K per orbit for 12 more minutes. Paying 5K per orbit for the next 15 minutes. Play is going to get very tight at this point in tournament and people will not go out fast. Dont think he can coast.

Re:Can anyone explain this great call by strassa? 500$ buy-in pokerstars tournament...
No pair nuts. No str8 or flush possiblity. Ace or pp above 77 is very unlikely. Possible you have 7 but not many hands with a 7 fit into your range. Pretty standard call. I have seen much bigger 'soul reads' before.

Re:What's your play w/AK in cash game, 200BB deep?
Actually, that is part of the reason to consider laying it down here. In that spot, the SB is never going to be stealing. Horrible spot for steal and he will be playing the rest of the hand oop. So he is very likely extremely strong. Why would he raise $12 with AA or KK' There is $10.50 in the pot when he makes his reraise. If he makes it $12 he is pricing in more than one of the players. He does not want to play oop against multiple opponents, even with AA. I think the raise size in this spot does not indicate weakness. I would say his most likely holding though is QQ.

Re:Difficult spot in the 80K Guarenteed on Stars
I am a little confused about how some people are worried about a flopped set. A chk-flat call on that flop is pretty unlikely with a set (most likely a chk-raise). And even less likely would be a chk again on the turn with a set. If he had a set he would be too worried that the flop bet was a standard c-bet and not check again on turn due to the risk of him checking behind him. Very unlikely that he plays a flopped set this way. A set of 4s is really the only set that would add up. And even that hand might lead out on the turn due to the draw heavy board.

Re:Difficult spot in the 80K Guarenteed on Stars
That does not look like a spot you can get away from. It is unlikely he has a huge hand. Two pair does not look likely. Set is really they only thing he is representing that has you beat. Did he chk-call with a set on flop' Not likely, he would have chk-raised. So did he turn a set of 4s' Well, you cant fold just because he might have hit that 4. He is either using his bigger stack to bully you with KQ or he has a flush/str8 draw combination.

Rail Support...
I am at the FT of the $9.90-360 max tourney on Stars (Tourney #163857533). Its not exactly a big tourney. But the way variance has been kicking my tail lately a 1st place score in this tourney would really be a nice boost. Any rail support would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re:This hand has been bugging me for days (SCOOP ME)
First of all, I almost never see you being ahead in that situation. Second of all, if I have a hand with value on the river and I am thinking about betting into an opponent I always ask myself "Am I going to call a reraise'" If I answer 'yes' because I am that confident in my hand then I will bet. If I am not willing to call a reraise then I will chk-call his bets on the river. Like a earlier posted pointed out, this will also give your opponent a better chance to bluff hands you have beat. He is much more likely to bluff when you chk to him on river. Rarely is he going to ...

Re:Steal spot late in the $55, 200K guaranteed on Sunday?
It is more than 6 BB', because the BB has his money in the pot, plus some rather hefty antes in the middle too. I believe the pot was 49,800 when the action was on me. If I pick up nearly 50K with no show down that is substantial. Like you though, I struggle with what to do in this spot. It is so tempting with so much possible 'dead money' that could be picked up. But if called and I lose then I all the sudden I am short-stacked. Was wondering what some other players did in spots like this. Guess it is not very interesting spot to others...

Question about PokerTracker
I have not had much time to spend tinkering with it. Under each players name I have (1) volunterily put money in pot (2) Preflop raise % (3) AF (total agg factor). The first two are easy to understand. I am trying to figure out how to interpret a players AF' Is it just the bigger the number the more times they bet post flop' Any help would be appreciated.

How to proceed in this spot?
I found this spot to be difficult. We are late in the tourney and I have a good chip stack. I have a small stack whose M-factor obviously indicates a high shove range. I like my AJ to be ahead of his range. The problem is how to proceed if I choose to play the hand. A flat call seems like a bad play because I have two stacks behind me that can put me out/cripple me and a flat-call would mean I intend to fold to their reraise. The other option would be to iso reraise all-in. Obviously that would work out most of the time. But I do have two bigger stack behind me and if either one of them call ...

Steal spot late in the $55, 200K guaranteed on Sunday?
I am late in the $55, 200K guaranteed on Sunday. This spot presents itself. My table image was certainly not wreckless. The original raiser had played a fairly standard game as long as I had been at his table. The flat caller on the button was a weak player who was leaking chips. His flat call on the button and my chip stack compared to theirs made this look like an enticing steal spot. Steps tournies....question about strategy in this spot
Playing at Step 3. Moving up to Step 4 ticket in order to get into the Sunday Million. Obviously in a normal sit-n-go this is not a spot that is real difficult. But obviously the steps tournies involve different strategy. Chip preservation until you move up to 5th position is important. There are 3 people with more compromising chip stacks than mine. My chip stack size compared to thiers is very important at this point, working our way towards the final 5. Chip accumulation is not as much of a goal as in a normal tourney. I have QQ in this spot. I am just curious if anybody plays this ...

Re:How many people play this flop differently?
And that was what made the decision easy for me. When the guy flat called the reraise I knew I was raising. Yeah, the guy that called with the straight draw had already been determined to be horrible. I loved it when he put his chips into the pot.

Re:How many people play this flop differently?
First, lol at not being able to read. Nowhere at any point in the post was "folding" presented as an option. There was no thought of folding. Second, as you can see by the way I played it that I did not give him a free card. And if you read the original post it said I was in no way unhappy about the way the hand played out. I am getting my money all-in on that spot at all times without blinking. The question in the OP was simply asking if there were players out there that played it differently due to the deep stack nature of the particular hand. Just looking for some other peoples ...

How many people play this flop differently?
$55 [1 rebuy, 1 add-on] on Stars. We are both rebought right away and are very deep stacked (approaching 200x stack) early in tourney. I am no posting this out of anger about him hitting. I am just curious about how many people would play it differently. I chose to 3-bet the flop w/nutz (the crying caller was my main reason). These days people dont know how to play deep stack and they are not going to fold the nut flush draw on the flop. So he puts his entire deep stack in on flop w/ace high. My question is, I have the option of flat calling his reraise and let him whiff the turn. On the turn ...

Re:argument about opening preflop early
So with a premium hand you dont want Ax calling your raise' Why are you raising so much just to take down the pot preflop. There is nothing in the pot with the small blinds. Your goal at low levels is not to take down the pot preflop. That wont get you anywhere. Your point is to get Ax and other weak hands to play with you when you have premium hands. FWIW, I raise 4x during the first level. And I raise 4x with any hand that I am going to open with, no variation for different hands. Then I move to 3x after the first level.

Question about the size of the reraise in this spot...
We are deep in the Nightly One Hundred Grand. The villian and I have stacks in which we are not desperate. I have AK in the BB. The villian opens for a standard raise in MP. I am obviously going to reraise this spot. My question is about the size of the reraise. An all-in bet seemed like an overbet. How many people would have preferred the all-in reraise in this spot' How about a reraise that is not all-in but lets my opponent know that I am commited to the hand and will definately not bet folding. AQ in tough spot, advice?
Deep in the $27 [40K guaranteed]. 42 players left. 12K in the pot to start the hand. 72K stack. M-factor is 6. Get AQ UTG. If I make a 2.5x raise UTG, the AQ in MP would have at least called, prob reraised, then JJ would have gone all-in and I would have been able to get away from the hand. But when I made my decision I decided that my stack size was such that I couldnt afford to open the pot and then fold to a reraise. Just wondering how others would play this hand in this spot. How many people prefer to make standard open' Seems I made the logical decision, regardless of outcome but I was ...
