Re(1): Why cant I be disciplined? I am not being funny or glib when I write this: If you look at what you don't want, you will get that. It's a hypnosis principle. If you are driving and you hit a slick patch of ice, you have to look at where you want to go. If you look at the wall, you will hit the wall. Personally, I noticed that when I think, "Don't be the Bubble-Buy, Don't be the Bubble-Boy!"... guess what' Exactly. Now, I think, "I'm winning this." I think this is also what changed with Matasow this year. TranceMaker Posted in: Poker Discussion |

The Ups & Downs It's funny how people think alike. A few minutes ago, I was going to post this, only to read the post from AawwNutz about what he's going through. And... he's a lot better at this than I am, I'm sure. What I'm writing about is the variance of the ups and downs of Poker. For the longest time, I had been on a losing streak with SnG's. Even though I read all the books, went to boot camps, watched videos, read forums, etc. Nothing. Then, I took some private lessons and my game improved. I started winning and feeling like I had some of this figured out. This past weekend I won 5 out of 6 ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): Losing in MTTs: Which is better? I think scenario #1 for the simple reason: You will have learned something, that is, what not to do (or to do) the next time this happens. I don't think you'd get this with the other two scenarios. TranceMaker Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(6): Money and Success in Poker As most players here, I began at the $5 level. I played at and lost, over the course of five months about $250 in $5 or $10 SnG's and some small MTT's. I was a really bad player. However, the $5 games were extremely hard to play since it seemed that most players didn't value their buy-in fee. To me, five bucks is five bucks. But when two people go all-in in the first hand (which is typical in a five dollar game) and people limping in, 8-handed games, etc. it was irritating to play and almost impossible to win. I moved to the $10 games and did a bit better, but my strategies were ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(2): Chatting Up a Tilting Player I agree. Maybe I didn't make this clear. Usually, it's someone who is complaining about some stupid play or bad beat, etc. It's just so tempting to chat him up to tilt him... but I never do. TranceMaker Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Chatting Up a Tilting Player You know them... the player who goes in with A-K to the River and catches nothing, only to lose to another play who was lucky to catch two pair with his BB hand. The A-K goes nuts and writes in the chat box something like, "What an idiot! How can you call that bet''' You're such a ...." You get it. It's always tempting for me to write him to let him know what a great move it was to stay in to the River with nothing. How he can call off 2/3 of his chips, etc. But, I never do... I'm not sure if that would put a target on me from that guy. (Which may be good *or* bad, if you know what I ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re(1): paradise server restarts? In MTT's they re-start and you just get into you previous seat at your table. (The software knows you're still in it.) In SnG's (at least the one I was in), they cancell the tournament and pro-rate the "winnings" for the existing players depending on your chip count. They also refund your entry fee. Re(1): NSXT/RPT Observation As a private student of Todd's, I am always amazed how he can tell me that a certain player has J-10 or whatever. Todd is like the Amazing Kreskin. And, I think this is what makes him one of the best players online — he can "read" the players and get into their minds. One of my personal goals is to learn how to do this... it's coming along, but it takes a lot of experience in many, many hands. Oddly enough, I used to be a mentalist (what Kreskin is) who did a mindreading act for many years onstage. I need to do this in Poker now. So, Todd is the real deal. He gets into their ... How Many Games Per Week (or Day)? Many times, I read about players playing over a hundred SNG's a week... is this typical' I may play one a day, several more on the weekend, but is it necessary to play hundreds of SNG's a week to get good at them' I realize that the more one plays the better one gets (as long as one is not practicing bad play), but have any of you played just a game a day and gotten good at this' Thanks, Hypno Man Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Adam: Your Guide to STT's... Nice article; just read it tonight. I'm not getting the missing piece of this article in the you say that you are playing tight... but you are heading into the bubble with a nice stack of chips. It seems that whenever I play tightly, I am the low stack. Almost always. Now, I've won a few good SST's at $10+1, but lost a lot playing tightly. It seems that while I'm waiting for a nice hand to arrive, my opponents are picking up their chips with their inferior hands. Someone's got to win the hand... and I seem to just watch the game go by. Now, if I do pick up a good hand, I'll play it ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |
