Re(3): Real Poker Training
Well, I don't get boners watching the videos either, because Todd's voice just isn't quite sexy enough. But, as a hobby player, I cashed for $477 in an MTT last week (I only play low buy-in tourney's) by taking 5th. And, quite frankly, I don't believe that I would have gotten that deep without having learned some of the psychology that Todd talks about. And yes, the $477 did give me a tiny little hobby player boner.

If you don't like it, CHANGE IT!!!!
What do you do for a living' Do you enjoy it' Does it suit your needs financially, emotionally, professionally' Do your work hours fit nicely into your family/personal schedule, the way you want them to' Or, have you painted yourself into a corner' Let me give you a little background on me. I am a Mechanical Engineer. Do you know how I decided for this to be my vocation' Well, it’s what my Dad did for a living, of course. My Dad is very well off (comparatively), and very happy that he had that career for 40+ years. He is now retired, doing a lot of hunting and loves to ride his ...

Re(2): Pot Odds - NLHE Tourney Play
I appreciate the insight, folks. I just watched Sheets video of the Step 5 higher where he took down $25k, and he also referenced pot odds. But, it wasn't so much a factor as he was using it to weigh "strategic" vs. "tactical" options. There is so much to learn about this game, and being an engineer, to me, the math is fun, but the psychology is even more intriguing to me.

Pot Odds - NLHE Tourney Play
In “Harrington on Hold ‘em, Volume 1”, he talks about pot odds a lot. OK, I know what they are, and how they work. But, I always thought the point of them is that “over the long term”, if the pot is laying you nice odds vs. the cards to come to make your hand, you are to call. This seems to me like it should apply more to cash games than no-limit hold’em tournaments, which is which this book is supposed to be focusing on. Well, the way I see it, in a 4 or 5 hour tourney, there is no “long term”. You have to make a judgement based on THAT tournament, right there, right now. Because if ...

My Poker Birthday.....(long)
Saturday, September 17, 2005 – (my birthday) Well, I woke up Saturday morning (my 39th birthday) after a somewhat late night out. I have my daughter every other weekend, and on the weekends that I don’t have her, my wife and I like to go out and have a little fun on Fridays and Saturdays. Since it was my birthday, I had already told my wife that she is to assign no “chores” for me on this day. I am going to play poker, and by God, that’s that. No arguments, no nothin’. Just shhh, and don’t be the blue hair in my express lane of success today. First of all, I needed to decide which ...

Re(2): How do you play AK off suit (pre-flop)
Maybe it's just bad luck with it on this day, but haven't won a hand with it day, and have had it dealt to me at least 8 times today, all off suit. But, I wasn't drawing very well today anyway, so maybe it wouldn't have mattered. Just a lot of bad beats (and a serious case of TILT O MATIC), and I have concluded that I am going to go ride my Harley, and give poker a break for today. I appreciate your insight, Niurat. I need some time to settle down and take that hand for what it is. Today, fold for me, lol. Oh well, only down $100, still up for the week!!

Pocketfives is like CRACK
My God. I get up in the morning, get my arse to work (usually on about 3 hours of sleep on Wednesday and Friday), and the first thing I do is check the message boards here. My work has blocked pretty much anything with the word "poker" in the url, but this seems to keep getting by. Eventually, they will notice 20 or so hits a day, and figure it out. Unless the guy who moderates it up in Detroit is hooked, too!! Then, I look at the clock, waiting for lunch, trying to get a 5 minute head start to run out and grab something, so I can get back and spend my lunch surfing this forum. It's a ...

Daily MTT's?
Hey folks!! I have a question. I will be taking all next week off on vacation, and plan to play as many of the low buy-in MTT’s as I can. I rarely get a chance to play them, since I work upwards of 60-70 hours a week, every week. But, next week I have a “get out of jail free” card, and plan to work on my MTT tourney play a little. I’ve cashed in several, with 2 final tables, but no wins. As a hobby player, it’s hard to set aside 3-5 hours on any given evening to do this with my work/family schedule. Someone had mentioned at one time about a web site that lists the daily tourneys ...

OK, go ahead and feel sorry for all of them. I feel sorry for most of them. Those who DID have the means to leave, and chose to stay, are fucking morons. I feel sorry for their children. These people just made the problem even worse, which was STUPID. I realize that's not the popular bleeding heart liberal way of thinking, but I don't want to be popular.
