Re:hand interpretations
I was hoping for more of a play by play interpretation. For instance, not knowing I have queens isn't the limp/raise preflop and subsequent action consistent with AA or KK' Even if for some reason the other player dismissed this, shouldn't they have at least considered it'

hand interpretations
Not a call for advice but I'm curious to see different peoples' interpretations of both sides of the action on this hand. $1/2 NLHE live game Most common preflop action is a raise and 2-4 callers. Reraises tend to either pick up the pot or see a flop with a single caller. 2nd to act i have QsQc and call the blind 3rd folds 4th, player x, raises to $10 5th folds 6th, player y, calls folded to me, I reraise to $40 x and y both call. my impression of x is he is solid but not very tricky or creative. y plays pretty tight and i've noticed him make some laydowns he shouldn't ...

3 tables left is where i crash and burn every time. i'd love some general advice for this stage in the tourney as well. do you play tight, ultra-aggressive, shoving every time the button raises'

Re:quad kings
Thanks guys. It's always good to get some outside input. The fold on the river doesn't surprise me given that any king has his boat crushed by that point.

Re:quad kings
the river definitely killed my action. i was just worried that i did a piss poor job of extracting value here. sounds obnoxious to say but a $500-$600 pot with quads/top boat against second boat when both players had stacks of over $1000 makes me feel like i did something wrong. thanks for the input

quad kings
$2/5 NLHE, live play, just moved to a new table with a stack of $1300 there are several stacks larger than mine at the table including one of around $5000 UTG limps I raise to $30 with KK four callers including BB flop is K, 10, 4 rainbow I bet $75 and am reraised to $200, everybody else folds I look at the board for a minute then call turn is another 4 I check other remaining player checks river is the case K I bet $300, he agonizes for a few minutes then folds showing his tens and i show my quad kings. Was my turn check a good or bad move' Was my river bet too much' I'm thinking ...

fixing leaks
One of many leaks I have that I've been trying to improve upon lately is my donkish habit of calling big river bets. One of the most common occurrences is when i have top pair with an A or an overpair on a board with two of the same suit. I find myself calling a lot of river bets because in my infinite wisdom I put them on a missed flush draw bluff. I have realized this so the simple solution is to stop. The question I have for much wiser more experienced players is how often is this a bluff' I guess I should add that I'm playing $.5/1 NLHE cash games. I get away with this bluff ...

Re:short-stacked...open-shove any 2 rather than shoving a raiser with a hand?
I'm an idiot but bored at work so I'll put in my two cents. I think this depends on the position and characteristics of the opening raiser. I regularly reraise with AJ or hands like it after an initial early position raise. I then feel like an idiot when I go from in the top twenty to trying not to throw my computer across the room after i've been bounced from the tourney. I tend to have a lot better luck with open shove method.

Re(6): live play hand
He had me covered. If I remember correctly, I had about $200 left when he bet $150 on the river, so on the flop I had a little over $400.

Also, I have to say that I think a push by him on the flop is the right move. Just calling (twice no less) just seems to passive.

Re(3): live play hand
Yeah, to be honest as soon as the hand was over, I knew I should have bet more on the turn. I think I was partially scared of the possible straight and partially just hung up on the fact that I bet $100 and he called so another $100 was a good bet (aka not paying attention). I think I was just steaming that I lost and he had been lecturing.

live play hand
I think this hand brings up some pretty interesting questions so I'll post it here. I don't think much preflop strategy discussion is needed, but I'm curious to hear people's opinions on the flop and turn betting. $2/5 NLHE cash game, ten players, i'm two seats after the BB, and there is a live straddle. The table is not very aggressive (people have been straddling all night, usually with several callers and very rarely a raiser who takes down the pot without opposition). I call with pocket threes Player 5 calls $10 (loose player, likes to draw a lot) Player 6 calls $10 (medium tight ...

a stupid bluff?
Posted this in the PD page instead of this one but here it is again. I'm trying to solicit some intelligent opinions on this move. First a little background. I've been doing well at live $2/5 cash games at Foxwoods for about seven or eight months now and I've been thinking about moving up to $5/10 since I think my bankroll can handle it, but I wanted to improve a few holes in my game first. The one major problem I have is that often the regulars at the 2/5 table don't give me action because I've been known to play some ABC poker. I've learned to mix in some suited connectors and low pairs ...

Re(2): Plugging a leak; continuation betting (warning: long)
This also brings up a comment on the recent article of post-Harringon play that I had. The article (I apologize for forgetting the author's name right now) mentioned that the idea of M and pushing with a short stack relative to the blinds can be countered. I'd argue that this isn't true because you are not just looking to steal blinds and antes (although it's obviously a big part of your reasons for pushing). One of my main goals if I am somewhat short in a tourney is to double up. Put me on a weak hand if you will and call, there is still no guarantee that you will win. Gambling and either ...

Re(1): Plugging a leak; continuation betting (warning: long)
Obviously I'm not expert, but isn't a lot of the value of continuation betting found in the fact that it should be indistinguishable from betting when you have a good hand' This discussion has been limited to the continuation bet bluff. You continue the betting after the flop with a hand you win. You continue the betting after the flop with nothing or a semi-bluff and you still win often. The times you get reraised are so few and of those even fewer are bluffs. I'm sure they increase at higher levels of play, but I'm positive that a great player doesn't stay a great player by bluffing off all ...

happy with the result, unsure about the play
$2/5 NLHE I'm the big stack with about $1800 at the table. I'm in the small blind with J10 of hearts. The button is a very loose crazy chase any draw kind of guy. BB is a tight aggressive player i've logged several hours with who is slightly on tilt from a bad beat given to him by the button player. Button calls. I call. BB raises to $20. Button calls. I call (so far I've played pretty loose and weak, probably not the best strategy). Flop comes Jh9h4c. I bet $50. BB goes allin for $226. Button calls (he has about $200 remaining). I call. Turn comes 10c giving me two pair with the flush draw. ...

I just wanted to say that the quality of articles being posted on the main page seems to be on the rise. Several recent articles including Jennifear's recent one have been insightful and hopefully with translate to improved play for me and other pocket fivers as well. Keep up the great work. (Hopefully the message board post quality will follow).

Thank you everybody for your overwhelming response. Seems like some pretty simple things to fix. Obviously I don't have much final table experience and I'll have to stop playing bubble poker and get back to the basics once i'm at the final two tables with a decent stack. Thanks for all the help.

Re(3): how do i close a tourney? help desperately needed
Is this true even when the antes are greater or equal to the bb' That is why i usually bump it up so bb doesn't get 2.5 to 1 to call. If this isn't a good idea, it's simple enough to fix.
