Xmas gifts
Merry Christmas to all! In the spirit of Christmas (that and timing out deep in the money of the Sunday Milly, miniFTOPS main, again and again with top set, KK, AA, etc.) I decided that it's time to buy myself some new presents. I'm lookin at getting a new laptop, to be used primarily for grinding. Price is not a serious consideration, I'm looking for the most reliable, best processing machine that I can get my hands on. So I'm looking to the P5s community for some help...any suggestions please' In addition, I think it's time to get a HUD and I'm looking at either HEM or PT3. I tried a free ...

Cross Posted from 2+2...who dropped out of college to play poker?
FWIW...graduated from Penn State in 2007...one more class from finishing up my Masters degree and I will do so in the Spring. I have had a full-time job since I graduated from college, but I have made more money playing poker (and I only usually play one day a week), therefore it would make sense for me to say screw college and play poker... However, I strongly believe that it is in just about everyone's best interest to stay in school and get that piece of paper. College is a freakin blast and all of you droppin out are missing out. Not only is it a sweet time, it teaches you a lot of life ...

PCA Thread
So I recently won a satty to the PCA and I'm excited to say the least. I've been to the Atlantis once before but that was when I was way younger and went with my family, so it was a different kind of trip. I'm a noob when it comes to the PCA, so I was hoping to start a thread about advice, things to do, etc. I vaguely remember someone discussing the rooms before, so I guess my first question is should I stay in Royal Towers or Coral Towers' What are some good places to eat (I remember Carmine's being pretty badass)' I know Atlantis has a golf course near by, has anyone played there and is it ...

If you can't guess by the name (in that case you must be a buckeye fan) I am a PSU diehard. Unfortunately I already graduated from PSU, but I am still living in State College. Send me a PM or something...I'm willing to play cash, tournies, etc...just not playing for rolls against GambleAB, Tennis, Avril, Grune, etc. Damn guess there are a lot of sicko players from PSU.

How do we proceed in these situations? A discussion
Yes there are reads...yes they are more limited than in live poker. Ok enough bickering back and forth, I'm interested to get some actual discussion on this as well... "Against someone who you have limited info on (prob cuz people are playing 20 tables at a time and not paying attention), how many effective BBs are we willing to 3bet an EP raiser with TT/JJ, and then call a 4-bet shove' Same scenerio, what if we have QQ'''"

Beautiful Las Vegas...another thread...slightly different twist
Heading to Vegas tomorrow morning...and no I'm not a rookie. I have been out to Vegas several times, I know good casinos, tournies, bars, restaurants, etc. so this is not a thread about what to do out there or where to stay (at the Rio fwiw). Actually started thinking about this as a result of Doc Sands on Lindley's show the other day when he was talking about exercising during the WSOP. Is anyone out there taking golf clubs and planning on playing a few rounds while out there, as a way of at least getting out into the sunshine and out of the casinos and bars''' I know Harrah's has some deals ...

How do we proceed in these situations? A discussion
I think we can agree that if someone in late position raises it is definitely profitable, as well as optimal to 3 bet with TT/JJ (especially oop). What about someone who opens in EP though' A lot depends on stack sizes and reads. Against someone bad it is best to 3 bet and get in as much money possible with what is presumably the best hand. Against a lag reg maybe 3bet/call is the best plan if they are capable of 4 balling light (which most are very good at). I think 3bet/fold is pretty bad, but in some instances can help you to define your hand and lose a small pot rather than a ...

Re:My story so far in 2010 (with graphs etc)
I'm also an unbacked grinder, but I consider myself more of a high-stakes MTT player than a mid stakes player. I have worked myself up the ranks from a couple $50 deposits to final tabling some of the biggest tournies out there and winning a few along the way. My problem is that I have a job and only get to grind one day a week usually (Sundays obv). I have definately improved my game a ton thanks to much valuable advice from many great players. If I finally get a chance to put in that volume then I think that the results will follow. I would be happy to talk with anyone about the ...

Re:Sunday million winner acechipchase
Lol at the play, especially with the 87, but noone has really discussed this yet... Isn't his ideal strategy to get in big pots (all ins), and hope that he gets lucky' I'll be honest with you, just watching HU and 3 handed RuberbandMan was dominating like a reg or semi-reg. If acechipchase wants to play small ball with RuberbandMan he is going to get picked apart. I would say that that his chances to win in that case are much less than 1 in 3, which is about the probability of him winning with the 87s. Now ideally, what he should do is be aggressive, and just keep 3 betting and 4 ...

Re:Micro player ships the Sunday Mill
Congrats...always good when one of the micro grinders binks something big. This will hopefully encourage all of the small stakes fish to take shots higher than they should...which in turn means bigger prize pools for the regs. Not to hate, but I'm sure he might donate a bit back in the process of learning the game...just wait til he hits varianceville and doesn't win all those sick all ins. On a side note, def not an MA so we don't have to hear that again. It was pretty obvious in the last big pot with the 87. Btw thank you for helping me to find some leaks in my game. Note to ...

Re:3 betting for value
I do this all the time against really lag regs or donks that are capable of 4 betting really light. Actually I can remember a hand recently where I had about 25 BB against a mid position open by Wretchy, and I 3 bet TT with the intention of calling a shove. He jammed and I snap called as he turns up A6. It's amazing how light people will get it in nowadays if they think you have FE or are capable of 3 betting light.

Thank you Jennifear for everything. I did read all 5745857394573495 posts but I would kinda like to recap what has been talked about. Hypothetically speaking, suppose I didn't suck at poker and was a high stakes player that has won some money (i.e. Gboro, Djk, etc.). How would I withdraw a large sum of money (say 30-50K)' From what I am hearing it seems like it is best to withdraw is via check, not wire transfer''' Also, it seems like it is best to withdraw once not on several occassions''' Finally, it appears as though the Dec. 1 deadline will not affect checks, only wire transfers''' ...

Re:early wtf in the early 50c with overpair vs two shoves on turn
Fold. Just 2 cool might be spazzing out with just a queen, but I doubt Bigpizza is. When you bet the flop and Just 2 cool calls and then Bigpizza calls behind he has to have at least a queen (there is no flush draw). When you bet the turn again you're saying you have at least a queen. Just 2 cool comes over the top (could be a queen if he's not playing well) saying he has you beat. I think the key in this hand is the reshove by Bigpizza without even thinking about it (note he doesn't even ask for time). He has 88 or 33. If they both only have a queen then oh well. You can surely ...

Re:Your huge break?
Grinded sit and gos on Full Tilt for about a year or so from $100 up to about $1500. Tried to satty into some of the Sunday majors so I didn't risk my roll in them. Sattied into the 750k one Sunday and took third for about $65k. That definately helped the bankroll for awhile. About a year ago I decided to start playing on Stars and wanted to build a roll without transferring much. Had a friend transfer me like $300 to play a few tournies. The first $50 MTT I loaded up I ended up taking down after being down to about 1 BB. Obv beginners luck lol. From what I've learned open as many ...

Deoxyribo... Ditto...it really sucks when you think you are playing well and making money and just don't have the time to do so. Yet at the same time, I think this might actually be a blessing because I feel more interested and focused when I only have a limited amount of time to play.
