On "mandatory vacation" - forced to take one of my three little weeks of freedom in the middle of January when it's too cold to leave the house, and not secure enough in my job to actually spend money to do shit anyway. So instead I stay indoors and spend the entire week trying to balance making the most of my time with the kids between their various meals and naps, yet still getting shit done around the house that's been put off for 2 years.

If you are interested in really thinking about this subject, read State of Fear by Michael Crichton. It's a fiction book, which makes it easier to get through but also discredits the facts used in the book; however the ideas presented throughout the book should at least make you think about how much of your current beliefs are founded on proven fact versus marketing. That being said - CO2 makes up about 0.03% of the Earth's atmosphere. I've always questioned how even a significant increase or decrease in CO2 could ultimately effect the Earth's temperature.

Chrysler is not in good shape, they are only slightly better off then GM. The Big 3 pull from the same supplier base. Ford obviously does not need the bridge loan, yet still stood by their competitors because they understood this. Many suppliers do not have enough capital to survive even a month without the big 3. At my company, 93% of the price of the part goes to make the part. A bankruptcy judgment that pays even 75 cents on the dollar for parts already shipped will kill us. I suspect most other suppliers are in the same boat. Besides, the logistics of supplier "reductions" ...

It is going to be tough for the Toyota plants to survive when all of their suppliers have closed up shop because they couldn't afford to stay in business. I do not think the people who are against this have fully considered the impact it will have if even one of the Big 3 were to file chapter 11 (or worse, chapter 7). Unfortunately, the US relies on the industry too much to let the market take its course. It's taken decades to get to this point, free market enterprise needs to be re-introduced to the industry slowly with careful consideration on decisions throughout the process. ...

I visited a 15yo girl with her family at a teenage mental health facility because she "wasn't sure if she could stop cutting herself". I was there during standard visiting hours and spent some time in the community area watching the other kids and their families interact. The obvious ploys for attention were ridiculous (including hers, of course). Each table had at least one "sick" kid soaking up every bit of attention they could. I had ridden my motorcycle to work, so no radio. The whole ride in seemed so peaceful to me, in my oblivion. I have never felt more guilty for enjoying a morning motorcycle ride then I did that day. Occasionally, a morning ride will remind me of it and somber me. I chose not to ride today because of that. Obviously once I arrived at work I spent the rest of the morning on the Internet keeping up with the events. Left work early and stopped by my moms house - she was locked inside with the lights off, curtains drawn, TV on, and a box of kleenex next to her. My dad happened to be out of town ...

It did not matter what I had planned for the day, if my parents cooked steak for dinner I had to be home for dinner. Sometimes steak dinner caused me to be late for work. This lasted until I moved out of my parents house in my early twenties.

I was born on Halloween. I got screwed on a land contract 3 years ago, and got stuck with two houses. One is going into foreclosure in a month. I play the drums. I was in a metal band for years, had hair down to my ass & looked like a stoner, yet never touched a cig or drugs (other then alcohol). My band had a rule - no alcohol before a show. I broke the rule often, but to this day I very rarely drink enough to get drunk. I work "with computers" just like my high school classmates predicted I would.
