Arububble I played in the 2004 Aruba tournament and found myself in the middle of the pack going into the second day. Cooler King and Texas Troll were at my table and the play proceeded as you might expect as the number of entrants shrank at an incredible rate. The payout for this tournament was rediculously flat; paying out the top 200 finishers. As a result of this fact, the famous 4 corners offense was implemented to perfection by the player to my immediate right. He took the full amount of time he could get away with to make every decision; as well as, throwing away some incredible hands. (AK and ... Posted in: Bad Beats |

In a SECOND Place Rut!!. . . .TALK TO ME!! leah, It can be very frustrating to come in second; however, it sounds like a pretty nice problem to have. However, you are dealing with a very small sample and there may be nothing wrong with your heads up play. You could be far and away a better player than the players who came in first and still finish 2nd in 4 straight events. That being said, so much depends on what the stack sizes are versus the blind/ante size. If there isn't a lot of play; a lot depends on the cards and the biggest mistake you can be making is playing too conservatively. If there is still room to play, your ... Final table bubble Great thread and a very interesting hand. I'm a little late to chime in on the subject; having not read it until all the information was given. However, here is my take anyway. PREFLOP I agree with raising with AJ in a heads up situation. The size of the raise is relative to the size of your previous raises; as well as the average raise at the table. Without that knowledge, I prefer to raise more than that especially with AJ AT type hands. I agree with your point of "wanting" action with this hand in a HU situation; however, in the latter stages of the tournament I have no problem winning ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Was i just a player who got lucky? Not to be an ass, but I don't think you played the second hand very well at all. You were very lucky that the exact river card fell that makes you the money and doesn't cost your stack. I think you should have pushed this hand much harder on the turn. Don't be so results oriented in your hand analysis. wsaul Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Strategy Changes with different structures In an attempt to stimulate some "outside of the box" discussion. I would like some feedback on the necessary strategy adjustments at a typical 100 NL Party Poker MTT versus a typical UB 100 NL MTT. For the sake of the discussion consider 200-275 person fields. _Specifically, the way having/not having an ante changes your play of specific hands. _How does it change your short stack play; How does it change your big stack play' _Does it alter your blind play' (Small and Big') _Does it affect the weight you give to your position' _What changes in preflop raise sizes do you make to control pot ... 50K at dise..... EASY TABLE!!!!!!!!!! Shawn, Would you take a minute or two and discuss a couple strategy changes between playing tournaments with antes and those without' For example, a 100 MTT on Party vs. a 100 MTT on UB. I asked this question on the strategy forum, but didn't get any response. Thanks, wsaul Posted in: Poker Discussion |

online poker players hurting themselves The best reason I can give to finish college is: No one knows what the future holds. I'm not talking about the future of online poker or even poker in general. I'm referring to the fact none of us know where/what/when things will happen in our life which can greatly change the circumstances of our life. For example, a person can position themselves to be extremely successful through investments, career opportunties, personal relationships, etc; but each of those (regardless of how secure they are at the time) are not guaranteed forever. So, even if a college degree is of absolutely no use ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

brsavage proven to be a bot I just want to corroborate the P0KerH0 story. Not only was he supposedly wearing drag queen gear in Reno. I have it on good sources that he was engaged in high dollar negotiations with one of the Vegas High Rollers while knocking off LARGE bottles of Heineken. My sources also say that handcuffs, loud moaning, and the police were involved. On a sidenote: I heard that the BRSavage bot also comes with an optional upgrade to handicap horses; as well as, increase fertility in some men. wsaul Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Pocketfivers doing well in aruba sat Thanks for the compliments. I had a pretty nice run there for a stretch early last summer. You will really enjoy Aruba; some of the nicest people, food, and scenery I've ever experienced. "Frankly, the cards sure helped" may be true, but you pulled yourself from one of the shorter stacks at the final table to one of the winners through very very good play. Quite frankly, you were the only one willing to play pots with the big stacks and were a little bit of a pain in the a$$ ;-). And, as far as the cards go, I caught more than anyone. Give yourself some extra credit. Good game. wsaul Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Pocketfivers doing well in aruba sat I (unlike all you good players) had to get up and be at work by 7:00 AM this morning so I was reluctant to play this tournament; however, I did anyway and am very glad I did. Sophiea and I had a strangle hold on the tournament with 7 or 8left. We each had about 80K, with the closest player having around 45K and several in the low teens. However, their play started to loosen up and it was a "free-for-all" when it got down to 5 players. I felt Sophiea played a great game and probably made a great laydown to me the first hand of the final table. I make a standard raise from middle position ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Brsavage.... or anyone else... was this a horrible play? I agree with Chris at this stage of the tournament I definitely think calling is the correct option given this particular circumstance. 1) You are at a very awkward stack size to raise. A standard raise commits 1/3 or more of your stack and leaves you with a very tough decision if the flop doesn't help you. A reraise All-In like shown above only gets called if you are dominated or at BEST a coinflip; this is a strikingly different scenario than later in the tournament where there is a good chance you are in a dominating position if called. 2) The smooth call limits your risk in the hand; as ... please stop I rarely post, mostly because I'm a donkey who doesn't know much; however, there seems to be a cycle poker websites go through: Step 1: Quality individuals start a site Step 2: Quality Content and participation breeds successful poker site Step 3: Popularity brings more and more posters Step 4: Quality site is filled with Crap Step 5: Quality individuals move to different site I've watched it happen on RGP and UPF. I hope it doesn't happen here. wsaul Posted in: Poker Discussion |

37K Overlay I started with KK and was at 1500 after the first hand. Running well til I get Jacks full of sixes and timed out when I didn't get my bet typed in fast enough. Oh yeah, the kicker is the action was checked to me; so my hand was folded to NO BET in a HU situation. Heads Up Sit n Gos Aspen, I have been experimenting with a lot of these Heads Up sit n gos and I have a different opinion about the "correct" way to play them. IMO, it is 100% "knowing your player" and adjusting your game to best beat that "type" player. That is, of course, as long as the structure allows for a good game. (UB has an excellent structure, less rake would be nice, but the tournament structure is the nuts) Secondly, my favorite opponent type is one who stubbornly plays an aggressive raising style. I would say 90% of these types of players aren't capable of playing this style profitably. Even, ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Buyins for NL Cash Games 10-15 buyins is on the LOW side of the bankroll spectrum especially if you are playing shorthanded. I suggest 30-50 buyins if you want a solid bankroll. 5 buyin swings are not uncommon, even within a 1000 or 2000 hand session. If you play the higher levels with a shorter bankroll you will continually have to drop down levels to rebuild after a bad run of luck. If you are a winning player be patient and build your roll up as you go. If a person doesn't have the patience to build a bankroll then they probably don't have the patience to be successful longterm anyway. On a sidenote; the majority ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Advice Please, Thinking of Quitting Poker for good! mmobious, You should absolutely take a break from the game. You have a tremendous amount going for you right now. A good job, a girlfriend (can't speak to the quality of that, unfortunately ;-), nice things, etc., etc. and you are letting a lot these things go by devoting so much of your time to online poker. Even if you were substantially profitable during this investment of time; is it worth what it is costing you' No one can answer that but you. Anyway, if you continue to play I have one suggestion for you on your play. Play within your bankroll! The recurring theme of your post was ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |
