Re:Mike Leach Suspended for Alamo Bowl
Here's a more detailed description that I found on . Is this (seriously) standard treatment for football these days' I'm not familiar with football coaches doing this (seems silly at best - abusive at worst) but maybe it is standard and I'm just not aware of it. James was hurt Dec. 16 and the next day was diagnosed with a concussion, the person said. According to the person, James was sequestered at two consecutive practices: • On Dec. 17, James said Leach told trainers to put him in "the darkest place you can find." James was sent to an equipment shed near the ...

Re:What was your first car?
1971 Monte Carlo - Green with a white top - 350 4bbl It was as fast as it sounds, although at that time there were so many muscle cars that it was middle of the pack at best. That's great as far as it goes. The pity is that it got traded in for (I'm not making this up) a Ford Fiesta with a black vinyl interior and no air conditioning. Of course we moved to St. Louis just in time for the summer - wanna know how hot black vinyl seats get in the St. Louis summer'

Re:any former wrestlers in OT?
Yep... 98 pounds as a 9th grader and 105 pounds as a 10th grader. Behind a state champ who later became an all-american at Iowa State (plus I was a slacker) so I gave up at that point. No horror stories about pulling weight - I was just small at that point. I've always loved and followed the sport, though. The one bad thing about it is the weight-loss - but some of the procedural changes they made seem to have reduced the number of weight-loss casualties, so maybe that's getting better.

Re:2008 Offical HR Derby Thread...
It was Reilly. Making it even dumber is the fact that he said it when they introduced Morneau. He said that he questioned Morneau's selection and went on his rant about how there needed to be more black and hispanic players in the contest. He then went on to name a whole bunch of them who had all been invited but declined. And then Morneau went on to win the whole thing. I'm a big Rick Reilly fan, but he should stick to writing funny columns - live commentary is obviously not his bag.

Re(3): Favorite Stock
I completely agree with Donkey. It's great that you want to do some investing with money that you have. However, if you're going to invest in individual stocks, you really need to have the time and inclination to develop the right level of knowledge about each of them. If you don't, you're really just gambling. I'd agree with his recommendation to put your money in funds for now, then as you improve your knowledge of individual stocks and develop a method for selecting them, you can begin to move into them.

Re(3): Favorite Stock
Lucky, if you're going to check up on VGR (which I don't know much about) you might as well look into MO (Altria Corporation - formerly known as Philip Morris) at the same time. MO has been around since 1919, pays a solid dividend (4.1%) and is one of those stocks that large institutions and funds love to hold, particularly during a downturn. MO has been a long-term steady performer over many years.

Re(1): brag post/kill me know
Well, let's hope that little "a" and "b" are healthy and that there is enough pain-killer to make their size not matter. May they grow into "A" and "B" and make you proud. My mother (who was/is hypoglycemic) was only 5'6" and about 110 pounds when she started having babies. I was 10 pounds 4 ounces - and I had two sisters who were bigger than me at birth. (10'8 and 11'8) Nothing used to tick her off more than my father saying proudly "But it was no problem for her"...

Re(4): wiping the top of a soda can
I think Bluffer and I have connected on this general topic before... I always try very hard not to buy/drink things from cans for just this reason. I much prefer to drink out of bottles where the drinking surface is covered. If forced to get a drink from a can, I try to do what Bluffer does and pour it into a glass. If forced to drink from the can, I always wipe or rinse it off. And, BTW, when I'm forced to buy something in a can, nothing pisses me off more than going through all the cans to find the cleanest-topped one, only to have the moron behind the counter handle it by its top when ...

Re(5): Good computer games....
Thanks. Suspicion confirmed. Mine is a 6550 core 2 duo, 3 gb of RAM and NVIDIA 8300GS with 128 MB of RAM. The 8300GS is pretty much an entry-level card and isn't as good as your ATI. So, back to the OP. I retract my objection to GH III on PC - just make sure you've got a good enough system, particularly the graphics card.

Re(1): Good computer games....
I'll answer it a different way. A game that I would *not* get for the computer is Guitar Hero III. On the computer, it gets out of rhythm for whatever reason (competing for resources with other processes, I'm assuming) which makes it very hard to follow. Much better on the 360, PS or Wii.

Question for OT Golfers
I took the sport up a few years ago. Played a few times per year and pretty much sucked. Late in 2007, I decided that I enjoyed it enough that I wanted to at least get half-decent at it, so I started playing regularly. Shortly after starting to play regularly, however, I started noticing pain in my left forearm and elbow whenever I golfed. I've continued to play through it, but it's steadily getting worse. Has this happened to any of you' Is this a common problem' Is it likely to be something simple like over-gripping or will I have to spend money on lessons to untangle it' Any thoughts'

Re(1): Anyone use Geico?
Years ago I had GEICO because I really liked the lower rates. Then, on an icy day, I was sitting at a stop sign at the bottom of a hill when a car came sliding down the hill smashed into me pretty hard. My car was basically totalled. Dozens of phone calls later, they still were denying the claim. I never did get them to pay. I can't remember why they denied the claim (I was stone cold sober and I was just sitting there at a stop sign when I got hit) but they never paid a nickel. That was many years ago, so they may have changed. However, I switched immediately and have never considered ...

Re(1): Whose death would send the biggest shockwaves worldwide?
IMO, the major politicians would have a far greater impact than any athlete or celeb. Bush, Bin Laden, Kim Jong-Il, Putin, etc. These deaths would change the way that a lot of people live. Of US-based athletes, Tiger Woods would probably have the biggest global impact. A lot of stars in Baseball and Football are big here, but really don't even register in Asia or even Europe and South America. The death of a Soccer star would probably have a larger global impact. I'll let all the OT movie experts comment on which actors/actresses would cause the biggest stir.

Re(1): To all you golfers out there who have never had a hole in one......
F me. A 92 year old blind guy gets a hole in one. I've only had one chance at a "hole in 2" and I blew the 4 foot putt. Plus, from all the other threads, evidently most P5'ers can hit 3-irons 250+ yards and other clubs correspondingly long distances while "scoring in the 70's and 80's". I hit a 3-iron 170 yards and have trouble breaking 100. Golf sux. Gotta go - playing 18 more today...

Re(2): Insomniac
As a long-time insomniac, I agree with Tomo. Eat good stuff, work out hard. Develop a routine as well. Try to go to bed at the same time, do something relaxing (read or whatever...) for a few minutes before you go to bed. As much as it sounds like BS coming from your grandparents, things like warm milk or a drink (not 10, 1 drink) before bed help as well. I'm not in favor of Ambien, Tylenol PM and other similar things on a regular basis. Those things are good for occasional use or special circumstances (a lot of people I work with take them when flying to Europe overnight so that they can ...
