Re:Gasoline "the master plan"
There actually is some truth to what you are saying. We might be entering a "Panic" economy. Look at wheat. We can grow more wheat than the entire world can eat. The government pays farmers NOT to grow wheat. Many years a lot of wheat isn't even stored in silos because they are full, it is just dumped on the ground. Now the price has been bid up many 100% because of 'SUPPLY CONERNS'. Yeah, yeah, yeah, some wheat land has been taken out to grow corn for ethanol, but not the massive amount that the price increase would indicate. Last night, I heard about rice. Mankind ...

Re:Vote: Living player who has made the most money playing poker?
He was originally a pool hustler. Then he discovered poker in California. He played the highest stakes California poker games. Over the next two years he lost $2 million dollars, until he was down to his last $50. So he made the only logical (LOL) decision he could make. With only $50 buck in his pocket he figured he had to go to Las Vegas and play in even bigger games. He found someone to stake him $10,000. Three months later he had $7 million. Don't know how long it took him to get to his peak, but he did finally blow it all. I think his up swing was about 2 years or so, and then a ...

Re:Vote: Living player who has made the most money playing poker?
Here is a story about another old time rounder big winner: Puggy Pearson. Puggy's golf stories are legendary. Once, a few years back, I was playing with Puggy, Tommy Fischer, and a professional player from the PGA Senior Tour. Puggy was getting four shots a side from the pro. Puggy hit only three greens in regulation that day but virtually got the ball up and down on every hole and shot a 75. He beat the pro for $7000. While writing out his check to Puggy in the snack bar after the round, the pro said, "Puggy, I've played golf with the greatest players in the world for 40 years ...

"Ivey probably has made more recently but didn't play for 30 years before that to pad his recent winnings." Correct. But look at a goober like Gus Hansen, when he went on his WPT run. A quick $3 million in tourneys and he has wiped out Doyle's 30 year accumulation. Ivey playing big baller cash games and scoring a million here and there, quickly surpasses Doyle's 30 years. Hell, Doyle is kicked back and semi-retired. Last time I saw him he could barely walk, he was getting around in a little motorized scooter on crutches. You don't think some young gun is crushing ...

Actually you made a point against yourself taking doyles wins where he won like 500k in 2 years, beating only a few hundro is a good example of how it wasnt actually taht diff in terms of poker profit and your 100 dollars was a big win stupidity. Could somebody translate this into English' LOL Is anyone here old enough (maybe 1/2 Doyles age) to remember when a 40k a year salary was BIG MONEY'

Re:WSOP
I guess you have never gone fishing. Best results are obtained by figuring out where the fish are and throwing your bait right in the middle of the biggest school of fish. THE RIO OF COURSE. Every donkament player has to go there eventually (although since the weeks leading up to the ME are such a mad house, every other casino with a poker room is just as good).

Re:Vote: Living player who has made the most money playing poker?
Doyle is the definition of class, no argument. However, how long has HSP been on' How long has there been a "big" game' Today, you can play $1000/$2000 limit, or even $100/200. For about 30 years of Doyle's playing time $30/$60 would have been the 'big baller' high stakes game. During the 60s and 70s Doyle was racking up the, unheard of in those times, almost fantasy 100k plus per year income -- Now every week of the WPT some donkament winner walks with 1 million plus. That would be 10 years of Doyles grinding back in the day. I would say Ivey is the candidate, Ivey is ...

Re:Vote: Living player who has made the most money playing poker?
Yeah, I guess when Doyle won the 1976 WSOP Main Event and got paid $220,000 he made up for it by winning the Main Event back to back the very next year in 1977 for a huge $340,000 payoff. Jamie Gold probably tipped the dealers that much.

Re:Vote: Living player who has made the most money playing poker?
It is not Doyle, the majority of his winnings came when a dollar was worth a dollar. A hundred dollars was money. What you spend on strippers today was considered "really big money" back in the day. I guess if you adjust winnings for inflation, then Doyle would be in the running.

Re:How long a walk is it from Bellagio to the Rio?????
It is not safe. Not because of homeless people, or crazy cab driviers, but due to the reason that Las Vegas is located in the middle of a friggin' desert. It is not too far from a little place called Death Valley. Walking a mile in Vegas in the summer is a good way to become dehydrated, turned a beet red, and wind up wore out and smelling real good at your destination.
