Re:Micro mill weekly? Definite co-sign; this would be a perfect "shot" tournament for me. At the moment, the alternatives don't cut it; I played in the Mill a couple of times, and loved the structure; a $40 tourney like this would be so much more enjoyable than the $10 1/4mil 8 hour crapshoot. Re:Is downloading f*#king up my poker playing?? Probably; exactly how to do it depends on what make the router is. It also requires that you either have the admin password to the router (or if you don't, that they haven't changed it from the default setting). Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Is downloading f*#king up my poker playing?? You can try forwarding port 6881-6889 (meh, I think that's the torrent port) traffic to your computer from the router's port forwarding menu. That would make it very slow for them to download/upload and might free a lot of the connection up. But yeah, those programs can do anything from eat the whole connection to kicking every computer off the wireless network, if you set them up wrong. Edit: If they can find some other download method, you'll be better off - the upload interference will be just as annoying as download interference for poker (I get this when someone in my house ... Re:HUD for MTT's VPIP/PFR/AFQ/3 bet% No. of hands Also HEM colour-codes player names, based off the number of BB in their stack (the default setup is more intuitive for cash games, with red meaning lots and green meaning few, I find it better to change this) But - I'm far from successful, and it really would depend on your style of play. I'm certainly not suggesting these are optimal. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:HUD for MTT's Colour-code the "number of hands" stat, and make sure it's prominent. In SNGs, you tend to have seen the same number of hands for most players at your table; with all the eliminations/table changes in MTTs, it's easier to end up in a situation where you have 100 hands with half the table, and 5 with the other half. When that happens, you need to be able to see quickly what sample size you have. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Is smoking + EV? Smoking was +EV for me when I smoked daily anyway; I'm pretty sure it would be -EV now, because I'd just pass out and make insensible noises when the computer angrily tells me it's my turn. If you suffer from impatience a lot, or (for some) if you have trouble concentrating for a long period, then I think it can help; it alleviates the boredom, and heavily reduces impatience. The trade-offs are many, and they change depending on personal reactions to smoking; personally I found on reviewing my past games that a lot of the times I busted early in a tournament, I was satisfying ... Mixed opinion in the last thread I woke up this morning (nah, afternoon :)) with a wierd feeling that I *should* play this evening, so I'm on my standard micro donk schedule, and will almost certainly lose harder than normal! Re:Did you feel your first big score coming on? The first of the only two times I've managed a respectable position - I'd been up all night playing the late $3r on Stars, and it got to about the point in time I had to leave to go to work (sf obv -EV to go to work when at FT). So, I ring in and say I can't make it today. Didn't work out so well though - 5 minutes later the break started, during which I fell asleep. Sat out from 8th to 5th, which was quite amusing. And I guess I got a day off work thrown in too! Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Best way to learn poker I don't recommend *starting* with reading books, though I think it's an essential part of the learning process. This is kind of how I started: Play money tables are ok for teaching the structure and rules of the game, when actions happen, and so on. They're ok for teaching hand values (except, bear in mind that a lot of the players playing these tables will play trash that almost nobody in real money games plays). As the poster above me says, they most definitely do not teach good play. While you're playing these, lurk the hell out of the HA forum here, and devour strategy ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Your game Vices TV Comedy programmes - about 10% of the time I load up Stars, I get this ridiculous urge to listen to some kind of stand-up show while playing. That's fine - until I get to a really funny bit, and misclick while laughing my ass off. (In poker terms, my equivalent is Razz cash games...) Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Diffs in $2/$5/$11 SnGs? Both types (HUD/Tracking & Table Control) help you keep track of multiple tables; - Tracking/HUD software (PT3, HEM) will give you more of the information you would get if you were 1-tabling, across any number of tables, so you know how active the players are being. - Table Control software (TableNinja) will let you react quicker to each table, increasing the number you can have up, and giving you more thinking time for each decision. I strongly recommend you try the first of these two types above the second, for a whole load of reasons, but mainly because getting tracking software/HUD ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Is this possible? (75USD/mo 4 days/mo) Ok - here goes. I'm not a ridic successful player, I'm roughly accomplishing what you're trying to, and finding it real hard doing it. But....all is not dark and gloomy in this world in which we live. "I know I'm in the 90% that 10% of you rely on for earnings. Is it possible to change that'" Yes - and I think that the first part of this question is the first step to achieving that change - recognising that you're in that 90%. It takes hard work, and a level of self-honesty that most people aren't prepared to go through, though. "What sort of ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Stars $4.40 180s vs FTP $3.30 90s I'd take the $3.30s on FTP, I think - I find the structure of the $4.40 180-mans to be quite inconvenient. Not sure what the relative strength of each field is, though. Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:Variance in Turbos v Normal Speed - a common misconception I think I agree with the statistical approach taken here; it looks solid. One thing though - the example used in this (the Cereus SNGs) has identical buyin/rake structures for the normals and turbos. Given that, on Stars for example, turbo SNGs often have lower relative rake, the ROI% of 1st/2nd is higher in these games, than in their closest-equivalent normals. At that point, there's a factor increasing turbo ROI% (known, quantified by prize structure), and a factor decreasing it (known, but not quantifiable) relative to the normals. That makes it hard to say what the overall effect ... Posted in: Poker Discussion |

Re:How Winning Can Mean Losing in Poker and Life I like the part at the end about the risks at poker being yours and yours alone, as opposed to the risks in life in general. If you were to take that, and combine it with certain parts of economic/political theory, you could build a very strong theoretical case against government intervention in this field (because government intervention is only efficient when person A's actions affect person B, and otherwise liberty is infringed).
