I don't know what your PhD friend is going on about but running it more than once is ALWAYS a good idea variance wise- there is no exceptions. Whether you're a 42:1 winner or a 42:1 dog. Someone said you shouldn't do it because if you can't afford the stakes then you shouldn't be playing- that's rubbish. Its all relative. If you are playing a 6 hour session of 1c/2c poker and you get it in against another player and there are 200-300 BB in the pot, you should always run it
