Depending on traffic, drive from Fairfax to DC is anywhere from 20 mins to 1.5 hrs. Start looking now for anything downtown. Bar scene in Arlington will be alot chiller than downtown tho unless you're into wearing a suit/tux and wasting a bunch of money on over priced booze and food. New Years is amateur hour, words cannot express my hatred for that holiday.
