if you're going to get called by J high, why wouldn't you shove AQ here?
As played the OPs shove was fine because he got called by a worse hand, sure. But he got it in as only a 60-40 favorite, whereas in hindsight it appears he could have won the hand without going to showdown, and I think this close to the final table, there are probably better ways to take chips off a donkey who calls pf with J8 for half his stack

I have to admit that I sometimes go against my read just so I can prove to myself that I was right. How ironic is that?! The problem in these spots is that if you fold you dont get to see what he had, and I know for me that these things can niggle at me for ages cos Im thinking "I folded bottom set, it was a good play...was it...what the hell was I at...Ill get the bastard next time"...tilt tilt tilt and therefore -ev for the session. If I call and lose, Ill think "I knew it, fuck

i think this is a really easy fold. You put a near pot bet on the flop representing an overpair, you get min raised and then the BB (whose range is HUGE here) shoves. You could be beat by both hands here. Bet less on flop, then let it go

I think the deeper the stacks are, the less you want to be playing oop with any hand. Position is vital when stacks are this deep. Unconnecting cards like a8 lose value when deep as well which is why it is fine to raise hands like 67, 68 etc in position. When you flop big you can really get paid off and lose little in relative terms if you dont. At early stages of tournaments I usually play passively oop with everything but AQ+, 1010+, even AQ isnt great. I just think position really is that important
Thanks alot everyone, I appreciate the input, I'm still thinking though. As for a down payment on a house, that would be nice but bringing in like 40k a year or so with no proof of income (solely SNG poker winnings), there would be NO way in hell I would ever get approved for a loan, on top of that I have little to no credit, and my parents credit isnt exactly steller to say the least. Thats why I'm kinda in this bind.
Either way it seems like you
I will be grinding hard to try and make the most of this and it will still be very tough for me to make 7.5k vpp grinding 50nl and also working 6 days a week but thanks for your encouragement ronkend. They've even started a petition about it now the sad bastards. If this promo was for the US only none of us europeans would even give a shit, let alone start making whiny posts and petitions. Grow up you bunch of kids.
cosign
