1971 Monte Carlo - Green with a white top - 350 4bbl It was as fast as it sounds, although at that time there were so many muscle cars that it was middle of the pack at best. That's great as far as it goes. The pity is that it got traded in for (I'm not making this up) a Ford Fiesta with a black vinyl interior and no air conditioning. Of course we moved to St. Louis just in time for the summer - wanna know how hot black vinyl seats get in the St. Louis summer?

Yep... 98 pounds as a 9th grader and 105 pounds as a 10th grader. Behind a state champ who later became an all-american at Iowa State (plus I was a slacker) so I gave up at that point. No horror stories about pulling weight - I was just small at that point. I've always loved and followed the sport, though. The one bad thing about it is the weight-loss - but some of the procedural changes they made seem to have reduced the number of weight-loss casualties, so maybe that's getting better.

Just turned 50 last month. Really glad to see Monkey Cowboy's response. (Although to most on this board, 50 vs 52 probably looks the same - older than dirt...)

I won't speak for the others, but I have no plans to check out in 20 years. How does it feel to not be sure you'll make it to 50? :-)

It was Reilly. Making it even dumber is the fact that he said it when they introduced Morneau. He said that he questioned Morneau's selection and went on his rant about how there needed to be more black and hispanic players in the contest. He then went on to name a whole bunch of them who had all been invited but declined. And then Morneau went on to win the whole thing. I'm a big Rick Reilly fan, but he should stick to writing funny columns - live commentary is obviously not his bag.

I completely agree with Donkey. It's great that you want to do some investing with money that you have. However, if you're going to invest in individual stocks, you really need to have the time and inclination to develop the right level of knowledge about each of them. If you don't, you're really just gambling. I'd agree with his recommendation to put your money in funds for now, then as you improve your knowledge of individual stocks and develop a method for selecting them, you can begin to move

Lucky, if you're going to check up on VGR (which I don't know much about) you might as well look into MO (Altria Corporation - formerly known as Philip Morris) at the same time. MO has been around since 1919, pays a solid dividend (4.1%) and is one of those stocks that large institutions and funds love to hold, particularly during a downturn. MO has been a long-term steady performer over many years.
