  • Day 1, and 2 of challenge

    By Shemp Hain - Sep 02 2009, 11:29 AM

Day 1 didn't play. Day 2 lost 30 playing plo on UB. Off to a great start Yes.
The challenge is going great so far lol. Maybe I'll break even going into December and then make 16k. Won't be home for a couple days because my sister is leaving for Boston but as soon as I get back I'm going to hammer out some DoN's. Peace.

So I limped which I like doing and I called the 3 bet cold because we were all deep and I realized that if I the pot gets 4 bet a call is slightly profitable, which ended up happening but also if the pot gets 5 bet I would be conviced they probably both have AA in which I'd love to get it in as a big favorite in a huge 3 way pot. Preflop vs. the villian I am a tad better than 47 percent which just goes to show how sick this game is (this is even with my diamonds covered). After the flop when the majority of money went in I was 69 percent. This just goes to show how bad it is to build a big pot that doesn't commit you with AA. That being sad he made the right play being able to commit around 30 percent but I couldn't fold once Down called.

As for today's progress I made roughly 45 plus maybe 12 rakeback on Tilt and 120 on Stars.

  • Some info about my challenge, an update, and a pissed off villain

    By Shemp Hain - Aug 28 2009, 01:00 PM

My challenge doesn't officially start for a couple days yet but the results yesterday were pretty good overall. I won about 190 in 2 hours playing .10/.25 plo. I usually start playing around 3pm when Fulltilt Happy Hour kicks in and I play til 5pm on tilt. Then after I eat dinner I play on Stars the rest of the night with some occasional play on UB. As I previously stated I'm shooting for a 4k average the last 4 months of the year strictly playing .10/.25 plo with some DoN's on Stars, which I usually 20-30 table the 20's.

Yesterday I played from 3pm-430pm on Tilt and won about 140 give or take 5. I earned 10 in rakeback. Then later in the evening I played on Stars for maybe 40 minutes tops and made about 40 bucks. I'm obviously going to have to play more hours each day esp. trying to hit 4k playing 25max. I decided to give this a try due some recent success on UB and Tilt playing plo. On Tilt I took some money out leaving about 260. I then received 200 bonus to unlock via the "biggest bonus" giveaway.  Only having 250-260 on Tilt I still continued playing the 12 9man turbos. I lost about 100 and I realized I obviously didn't have enough to play these anymore but I was looking for a way to unlock the bonus so with 160 bucks I started playing the plo 6 max games at .10/.25 (clearly risking that 160 playing such a volatile game but I was just determined to unlock the remaining 120 bonus). Long story short I played 6 tables without shortstacking and ran my balance up to where it sits currently at 705 including the full bonus and rakeback in about 20 hours of play (aka approximately 2 weeks for me since I was still playing on Stars and UB).

Sitting at 700 I realize I can still run out of money on tilt which is fine but I think plo is a lot less volatile than many ppl think. In the first 5-7 hours of play I swung wildly playing big pots with draws etc... up and down 200 breaking even. That's when I discovered small ball Omaha which I'll talk more about later. So on to the HH. Oh, I withdrew my money from Tilt to transfer to Stars for their reload bonus. I think that ppl are really missing out when they don't take advantage of these opportunities.

Here's a hand I played yesterday, getting praise from some players and getting flamed by the villain.

In the BB I obv. check. The villain could have raised but I don't have a problem with his call. I led the flop with middle set thinking I have the best hand if I get popped I'll just flat and wait for a safe turn card to make further decisions. The turn brings a straight and a flush draw so if I bet and get called or raised I am in no-mans land (small ball again) so I just check call hoping to induce a bluff on the river or fill. If I reraise the turn again I will be in no-mans land if I get shoved on or flat called. On the river I get the Ace comes. No I have to stop and think. I called hoping to induce a bluff or fill up but the Ace comes and now I lose to JJ, 34, AA. Could he just limp with AA preflop? Absolutely, with a deep stacked table or maybe shitty Aces. Could he have A345ss... sure. So I check and he pots it. I took some time to think what he could have and I came to the conclusion that if he had a big hand he wouldn't want to scare me away with a big bet so I called and he was pissed. He went on and on about how I can't lay down a set.
