I am stunned at the way that Manny Ramirez gets away with not giving his best effort while collecting more money than most of will see in a lifetime. I was more surprised that other teams wanted to trade for him given the way he has played lately: not running out grounders, not even being adequate in left and just plain ole not playing for the hell of it. I guess the other teams thought that they could keep him from being a disruptive influence, that the problem was all Boston. Now the Dodgers will actually get a chance to find out if it is true. I wish them luck. I think they will need it.

I saw the movie Step-brothers over the weekend. It was good but I would have enjoyed it more if they hadn't used a lot of the best parts in the trailer, commercials, and as clips during the hundreds of visits to talk shows that John C. Riley and Will Farrell did in the weeks leading up to the premiere. They are a funny duo and crack me up in interviews. They really work well together and seem like great friends. I just wish the movie studios would quit ruining movies by putting too much in the trailers. Totally unrelated, I caught one of the many re-runs of the ESPYs late one night when I was having trouble sleeping and was totally surprised by how funny (intentionally) the show was. Justim Timberlake had seemed like a strange choice when I saw him in the ads for the show, but he did a really good job. However (props to Stephen A.), I bet he gets some serious ass-kicking and/or smacktalking from the members of the Memphis Tigers. He rode them pretty hard, but it made me laugh.

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas
Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on that sad height, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Another incredible night on the felt for a trio of really good guys.
Dan "Wretchy" Martin continued his excellent play by making the final table of the PokerStars The Nightly Hundred Grand last night. For finishing 3rd of 1087, he won $16305.01. What can I say? That was another incredible effort and yet another huge cash. Very well done and I can't believe that he doesn't yet own the triple crown. But then again, it's only a matter of time.
Jared "TheWacoKidd" Hamby final tabled the FullTiltPoker $1K Monday on July 21, 2008. Wacon won $8680.00 for placing 9th out of 434. Waco is another example of a great player who has developed so many skills at such an early age. He will be around for a long, long time.
Finally, Zac "iLLNuGWichee" Fronterhouse continued to be a final table machine. Nuggy final tabled the UltimateBet Rebuy 20k Guaranteed yesterday. He won $1700.00 for finishing 4th out of 154. Then he moved over to FullTiltPoker. There Nuggy final tabled the FullTiltPoker $22,000 Guarantee (Rebuy). For finishing 6th of 285, he won $1647.45. "Wow!" you say? "That's not all," I say. In the Bodog Players Choice Semifinal yesterday, Nuggy won the tournament and took down the nice sum of $12000.00. I don't know how he does it. If I find out I promise that I too will move to final table. Fantastic night Nuggy. Well played guys.
