June 2008 - Posts

  • PLO Tournament

    Jun 26 2008, 11:07 AM

I show up to the Venetian to play the 540 nlhe event yesterday and when I get there I find out that its a 540 PLO tournament.  I know the game and have played it very little on the internet but decide I can figure it out and get in.  It was soooo much fun!!!  I picked it up really quick and felt like I was better then many of the ppl at my table.

I had tripled up after 6 levels but eventually ended up on the bubble 30th out of 289 27 paid.  My busto hand I was at 30k chips with 2-4k levels (blinds just ripped thru me.  I 3 bet push the c/o raise and get it in hu with QQAJ no suits vs Q954 doubled suited....  I will definitely be getting into PLO now though and feel like I really learned a lot in the 9 hrs I played.

  • WSOP UPDATES........

    Jun 19 2008, 11:48 PM

Ok, so so far I've played a few events out here in this years wsop.

So far I have played 2 2k no limit hold em wsop events as well as 4 $1500 no limit hold em wsop events and 3 $500 buy in venetian events.
The first event I was out of in 18 minutes.... I made an aggressive squeeze play with AsQs early on a Ks3s8s board and god pushed in by AK but since you start so short I was getting 4-1 to call with two cards to come and called and bricked out.

I cashed in my second event for 97th in the 2k wsop when blinds were 1/2k I opened for 5200 on a 25k stack in early position with JJ.  The player to my direct left re-raised me to 13k which I thought meant he had a monster because he knows when I am opening 20% of my stack that he doesn't have much equity in getting me to fold to a re-raise.  I reluctantly jammed in the rest of my 20k basically hoping to see two overs or a prayer of two tens.  He starts to count up the pot and his pot odds!!!  When he did that I knew I was way ahead but that he was getting the 3.5 to 1 to call with any two cards.  He shoved in the rest of the chips and wheels Kd9d.  Flop comes J34 with 2 diamonds turn brick river 2d gg me cashed for a lousy 4.5k.

I took a couple days off the wsop and was running hot online cashing for 10.4k 9.8k 3.5k (all wins) and taking 5th in the sunday second chance for 15k,  played a couple venetian deep stack tourneys (really fun tournaments if you are good at playing really laggy in live play against very weak players.)  I ran up 2 stacks and ended up making a push in one until my AQ< A2 for 1/4 my stack and my AQ<to K9 for my last 100k all in preflop board bricks out but gives me flush draw with 1 card to come so he has 4 outs instead of 6 and binks an offsuit 9 to felt me in like 22nd or something.

The next 1500 I ran up a nice stack to 15k but the blinds caught up to me and I felted with 500 left out of 2200 when my AQ< JJ. I also ran into an interesting spot earlier in this tournament when i was sitting on 4500 chips with the blinds at 150-300 w/ antes.  I open QQ utg +2 and immediatly guy to my left who had been very patient with his 1200 chips insta shoved behind me.  Immediatly after he makes this move the guy to his direct left announces all in and has 4200 chips.  Without hesitation the player two seats to his left jams in his remaining 3200  it folds over to the bb who says "wow, I have a monster"  "I dont think I can get away from this"  He then thinks for a few minutes before announcing that he is all in for around 15k.  It gets back to me and as badly as I just want to jam in my last 3800 knowing I am more then likely drawing to 2 outs but here was my thought process.  The guy directly to my left had been patient and I figured he would know that he had 0 fold equity jamming over the top of me and therefore must have some sort of real hand but I could be against a lower pair or two big cards.  The guy to his left didn't seem to have a monster and I was confident I had his range crushed.  The guy two his left who shoved 3k in was who I was most worried about because he was tight and jammed 3k into the pot only having his ante invested and having 3 people in early position already entering the pot.  I figured he would have to have JJ+ AK in this spot.  Then there was the bb.  I felt he wouldn't hesitate as he did with AA-KK and make a big deal about it and would just jam.  I thought he had AK and maybe like TT-QQ.  I figured if I called I would surely be into an overpair and probably one of them would have one of my 2 remaining outs.

I thought forever before folding and being disgusted at what I saw.

guy to my left had A6os obviously a terrible player and one of the donks that was just waiting for any ace to be gonzo with.

guy to his left had about what I figured with AJ os

guy two to his left had AQsuited (absolutely terrible by him imo)

and the bb the worst play of them all had 77  (wtf is he thinking)

I have them all crushed and the case Q comes on the flop giving me 18k in chips if I make the call.................. Lesson never fold QQ in a WSOP 1500 buy in especially if it is on a SATURDAY.

I was out of the next 2k wsop in 2 levels when utg raised to 300 mid pos called and I decided to just call with AK off in late position on a 4k starting stack.  (prob shoulda reraised here in hindsite.  Flop comes off T74 with 2 diamonds...  check check to me  I fail to bet the flop in position and a non diamond K comes off on the turn.  The orig raiser leads 650 and mid pos makes it 1600.  I didn't think the would both check this board with a set so I figured I was against another AK and that mid pos had KQ.  I regretted this thought process after I jammed in my 3700 and the utg folded later saying he had AK also and the mid pos called with TT. gg me.

The next 1500 I played was my best result....so far.  I felt I played very well all my moves and reads were on and I managed to win a flip early on QQ vs AK (never folding QQ again)  and basically small balled my way to 21k.  I got moved to a new table and was happy to see the only other big stack 24k was two seats to my right.  I picked up AsKs in late position and he limped in as he had been doing quite often at 2-400 blinds w/ antes.  I made it 1300 and he called and it was heads up.  flop came Ad Js 8s and he checked to me.  I lead the flop about half the pot 1700  and he quickly called.  At this point I put him on an ace probably a weak one and maybe a flush straight draw.  The turn was a wonderful 4h and he checked again to me and I decided to check behind to conceil my hand strength in order to get a great value bet off him on the river.  The river was an offsuit ten and he checked again to me.  I knew since I checked the turn he would more then likely bet any hand that had me beat.  i fired out an over bet of 5k on the river and he tank called and I won the pot.

an orbit later I pick up KcKh and he raises in ep to 1200.  I decided to flat him hoping that a short stack would squeeze shove.  Everyone folded and we were hu to the flop which came out KsQcJc he leads out for 3200 which I decided to just call.  Turn card was a 7c and he reaches and fires out 5700 leaving himself 7k behind I figured it was a good spot to get him in incase he just had a club or a pair and a club. I push him in and he folds :(  but im up to 37k.  I sucked out one time this tournament when I raised QcJc early and got flatted by aces in late pos flop came Tc 5c 2s I lead he reraised I shoved with a good amount of fold equity against a small non set pair or just air and he snaps me I turn a K and river a 9 to double up.  This DU was huge right before the bubble because the average stack at my table was 10-25k and I had 75k I managed to chip my way up during the bubble from 75k to 114k when we bagged it up.

I started day two small balling my big stack and after 2 levels was up to 210k.  After break I chipped up in the next level to 300k and got moved tables.  I made a fatal error by not playing super nitty right away and bleed off 140k very quickly at 4-8k blinds on about 4 hands.  the average stack was 370k with 20 left I had 165k and a guy a few large stacks I opened 30k utg with 5-10k blinds and got called in late pos and both the blinds called.  (they all had between 250-450k)  flop came 942 with 2 hearts and I was fairly confident none of them had big pairs and after both the blinds checked to me that if I shoved my last 125k in to win the 125k pot that I could only be called by 99 44 22 and maybe like TT pos 88 but after I announced all in the first caller had a set and gg me 20th place 15k cash but it felt like I just got kicked in the balls.

Bustoed my 1500 wsop today about 5 levels in too tired to type anymore as of now.

Future events are all the rest of the 1500-2k possibly the 1k rebuy event and of course the main event.
