The PocketFives.com Open on PokerStars was incredible. 85 players put up $215 a piece to try and take down the title as the first PocketFives.com Open tournament champion. 33 ranked players from our top 75 were in attendance, including 7 of the top 10, and there were also a lot of other top players and regular message board posters from our site. Overall, the field was a flat out impressive array of talent. This was arguably the most talented field per capita ever assembled for an online tourney. After nearly 4 hours of hard work, the title was snagged by 7th ranked gator93, who defeated 24th ranked jsup heads up.
The prize pool was a hefty 17k, paid out to the top 9 participants, and those who made the final table are listed at the bottom of this article. The tourney was a lot of fun for all involved as the chat was constant on the rail and the competition was tough at all times. Players like Shawn "WestTexasMan" Rice, LatestLines2, Beanie, Lucky Egg, and others stayed on the rail and kept the chat live, offering up odds on who would win the tournament and making wagers here and there.
Jsup was chip leader throughout much of the event and eliminated a lot of the players along the way. One key hand he won knocked out sheets. Jsup held 3 4 in the small blind and called, and sheets checked with his 6 8. The flop came 7 5 6 , giving jsup a straight and sheets a pair and a higher straight draw, and all the money went in the middle. Jsup's straight held, and he was up to over 20k in chips. Another key hand occurred when jsup held 2 4 on the big blind. The pot was unraised and the board came 2 K 2. His opponent went all in and jsup quickly called against the other player's K T. The case 2 came on the turn, sealing the deal.
The final 4 lasted quite a long time, and gator93 was the shortstack for much of it. He managed to survive several all ins, including one where he had A 7 against jsup's A T and caught a diamond flush. In the end, though, he played a really tough tournament and displayed his immense poker talent. He's now made even more of a name for himself as the first ever PocketFives.com Open champion. Congrats to him!
