  • Bankroll building project - Day 2

    By TwystedPair - Jul 27 2009, 09:46 AM

    Starting roll - $22
    Current roll - $60.41

It was Sunday Funday, and I decided to take a shot in the Sunday Quarter Mill.  I hate not playing at least one MTT on Sunday, so I told myself if I profited  > $10 in a series of $1.75 18-mans, I would play it.  I finished in 1944th place for $31.11.  After this cash, I played in a $11 $8K guaranteed and a $2.20 $4K guaranteed.  I didn't cash in either one of these.  I also had a decent day in the 18-mans.  All in all, I'm up another $20ish for a current BR of just over $60.  I think I'm going to mix in a few 45-mans and maybe a few $3.40 18-mans during my next session.

  • Bankroll building project - Day 1

    By TwystedPair - Jul 26 2009, 11:17 AM

    Starting BR - $22
    Current BR - $42

I was very close to doubling my roll on Day 1.  It stands at $42 currently.

These SnGs are obviously soft, but it took me a few games to kind of figure them out.  I was down to about $15 before I was able to turn a profit.  The biggest hurdle in these is figuring out bubble play.  You will get called with trash, no matter how much fold equity you have.  These players obviously don't understand ICM and what ranges of hands to call with when you have someone shoving 12 BBs into your big blind.  I think I have them figured out now, so I'm ready to start the grind.

I haven't put a number on when I'm going to move up yet.  It looks like the next level of turbo 18-mans is $3.40.  I think sometime today I'll add a few $1.10 45-mans to see how well I do in those.  I think maybe $100 is a good number to move up, but that might be a bit high.  I'll do some looking into various articles on BR management and see what a good number is.

Today is Sunday, and I hate not being able to play at least one MTT on Sunday.  I'm going to set a little mini-goal.  If I'm able to profit > $10 in the set of 4 18-mans that I'm playing now, than I will reward myself with the Sunday Quarter Mill.

  • Bankroll building project

    By TwystedPair - Jul 24 2009, 07:27 PM

I know, I know..  There have been a million of these lately on P5s.   I decided to jump on board the bandwagon.  Really what I'm looking for is some motivation and some strict rules for myself.  I have always been a winning player at the micro stakes, but never end up keeping a decent roll.  Most of the time, it's because I have to withdraw for family reasons.  Other times, it's because of poor bankroll management.

My goal with this project is to set specific goals for myself, while allowing for the occasional shot at a bigger MTT.  I'm going to start with a very small roll, so bankroll management really won't be followed at the beginning. Another of my goals is to prove to myself that I can still crush the micro SnGs so that I will have confidence for when I move up in stakes, bankroll allowing. I feel that I am good enough at the micro SnGs to be able to build my small starting roll into something decent to work with.

Bankroll building is a very new concept for me, so I don't have any specific goals yet.  I'm going to take the first few weeks day by day, see how it goes, and then develop some monetary goals. I will be doing some research over the next few weeks to see what other's have done with similar projects and maybe incorporate some of their ideas into my own project.

I will use this blog as a tool to track my progress, keep me pointed in the right direction, and to see what games I do the best at so I can play those more.

I will be starting with with a $22 roll.  I will play $1.50 + .75 18-man turbo SnGs to start with.  I would like to move over to the 45-man turbos, but since there is more variance in the 45-mans, I want more cushion before I do.  My initial goal will be to double the $22 and then possibly mix in some 45-mans.  I'm going to 2-3 tables max at the beginning to get a feel for how the players are.  I'm not great at massive multi-tabling yet, so I will also be trying to feel out how many I can play at a time and still be profitable.  I'll also be throwing in the occasional micro MTT when I have the time.  Nothing more than $5 buy-in until my BR goes higher than $100.

The project is starting now.  GL to me!!
