Upcoming Week's and Prior Weeks

By Unbay2k4 - May 09 2009, 09:16 PM

Hi,  Its been awhile since my last blog....I've been really working on my game in the last month and the results have been very positive.  Basically I signed up for the top 3 poker training sites...(poker pawnage, pxf, and pokervt)  the last of which I believe has given me the most to work with in respect to the most innovative training methods for online poker.  Poker VT was started by Daniel and Annette about a year ago and is very Daniel heavy..which is very nice imo.

I signed up for all three on April 3rd of this month and my first score of significance came just 4 days later with an outright win in the Cereus 3pm est. 8k Gtd. Reb. for $2,520.  This tournament has been very well to me but I completely dominated the field for the first time...having a huge chip lead for most of the tournament.  The next day I signed up for the big 2 wed. tournaments  (The Quarter Million, Sniper 80k)  Cashing my highest finish in ANY Cereus Sniper Event - 3rd place for $8,200.  The next wed. I also cashed in the 80k Sniper event for 14th place- $800...but made a terrible play in the blinds...something I've been really working on.

On that friday I placed 9th in the Nightly Hundred Grand on Stars....the first time I've ever final tabled that event...and imo it is prob. the hardest if not 2nd or 3rd to the FTP 50k and 75k gtd's.  It was a huge accomplishment even though I totally donked my way out of that thing I learned alot from the experience.  The very next night I thought I'd stay in on a sat. night and good thing I did because I placed 2nd this time in the Hundred Grand for my second highest score of my career..$14,000.  (Highest score is 105k sunday warmup win in August).

That sunday was a little brutal for me only cashing in the Cereus 200k for 26th and $880.  I took alot of bad beats on the river in FTP...one of which I turned the nut str8 and got it all in only to see the board pair for his set to make a FH, and the other runner runner flush.  FTP hates me imo :)

So  later the next week I made my deepest run in the FTP 75k event bowing out 16th for $524.  The next night I ended up Final Tabling and finishing both the 7pm est. $109 -50k gtd. on stars  and the Nightly Hundred Grand (again) in 6th place for $2,295 and $4,532 respectively.  I've broken about even since that 3 week stretch from April 7th - April 30th  and really hope to have a sucessful sunday tommorow.  I'm limiting the amount of games Im playing this Sunday to basically just the Majors skipping the Cereus 100k because its way to pro heavy imo...so I'm playing the warm-up, ftops #8, millions, Sunday 500, Ftops #10 and the 200k)  I think this will help with my concentration as I probabaly played about 15 games last weekend and didn't make 1 cent.  I was completely burned out by like 5pm est. and was just going through the motions, which is a bankroll killer.  I also believe there is a major difference in my ROI from 2 games to 4 games to 6 games...the last of which is my limit for multitabling.  After 6 Its just way too confusing to understand you table image and/or how the players are playing themselves.

After this sunday I plan to limit my play to 7pm-9pm nightly games (about 8-9 games a night, all high limit mtts).

May 17th is the start of the 500k Borgata Deep Stack Event...which is a $1500+150 buyin..and is the closest structure to a championship event you'll find. Period.  The stacks are 30,000 and 50 min. levels.  It is a 3 day event with the prizepool most always exceeding 1 million dollars.  I will be playing in that and hopefully be booking my trip to vegas.  My personal goal is to cash at least 5k this week in earnings...from this sunday (may 10th to the end of the deep stack event May 20th.  If I accomplish this I decided to make the trip out to the WSOP and hopefully cash in some of the preliminary $1k-1.5k events to either sat. in or buyin directly to the Main Event.  I'll try to post more often..its good for my game to talk poker.  Good Luck all..and remember persistence pays.

The Deepstack was probably the most insane tournament I've ever played in.  Now usually you like to see the habitual "fish" or "donkeys"  however in this instance it prob. cost me a HUGE cheap lead.  I was at Table 7  and they break from bottom up so I wasn't going anywhere.  I was in seat 8 lets just say seat 7 had 8 different people in it by the first dinner break.  This cost me a lot of chips for many different reasons.  One of the hands the utg raised and was called by 2 later positions until the 3rd man thought reraising AQo was a grand idea....needless to say the utg reraised all in and the AQo obviously  realizing he just put in 6k and only had 14k left in 300-600.  So effectively he put in over 35 BBs preflop with AQo.  Needless to say my 22 which i would of called as well hit on the flop and the AA the utg guy flipped over had over a 30k stack behind him.  I asked him later and he confirmed without a doubt that he could of never folded any line of play.  Awesome.  This happened once more in almost the same exact fasion.  Another hand I had 33 and raised utg and was called by 7 other players! The flop was 1077 and good old guy in seat 7 decided to bet into this flop with Q9h.  I had to fold and the guy to my left did with the 3rd man flat calling.  Everyone else folded and bang 3 on the turn.  The seat bets again and is flatted again with a rag on the turn.  River is K and the sb checks and the guy checks and turns over 78 for trips. I asked if being the 3rd guy with 5 other in the hand to act if you'd check...he said definately.  That pot was over 100k.  I eventually battled my was back to be about avg.  but I eventually flatted a late pos. raise on the button with JJ and the SB reraised to just about put me allin....I tanked then called reluctantly and he had QQ.  Oh well can't wait to play the next one

With respect to the training sites.  I may of come off wrong in my explanation of my personal experience with them or the use of them in general.  Early in my career I read a few articles about the short comings of using these sites. Basically I came to the conclusion that I would self teach myself using my math background and concepts of hand value and basic board reading.  I read a lot of books which the majority were outdated (shout out to hand for hand...best book out there imo).  So I believe the sites are really the third part of your game.  It has given me the perspective of other players and plays they make but these sites imo are more to refine the core basics of your game, you should not be mimicking there exact motions, plays, or betting sytle/patterns.   Understand what your trying to do with your bets, style and plays is the starting point.
