From September 21st to October 4th, the live poker community will descend upon Cannes, France. For the second straight year, the majestic Mediterranean town famous for its film festival will be home to the World Series of Poker Europe. This year, the WSOP Europe schedule features seven bracelet events, the same number as last year, and there will also be about 50 side events taking place for those without a deep budget and those who bust out of the featured tournaments.

WSOP Vice President Ty Stewart commented in a press release distributed on Thursday, “We can’t wait to return to the Cote D’Azur in 2012. We have moved up the schedule a couple of weeks to take better advantage of the great weather and all Cannes has to offer. Ask anyone who attended last year. This tournament is now a certified major championship and the experience is second to none. The media is already speculating on 1,000 players for the Main Event and we will be ready for them.”

In 2011, the two-week WSOP Europe schedule began on October 7th and ended in a Main Event that brought out 593 players. New Yorker Elio Fox trumped the most decorated member of PocketFives, Chris moorman1 Moorman (pictured), in the finale of last year’s WSOP Europe Main Event, a match-up that created quite a stir on our site.

Players will be able to take advantage of discounted room rates at the Majestic and Gray d’Albion starting on May 1st. The Casino Barriere de Cannes Croisette and the Hotel Majestic Barriere will serve as the setting for the seven tournaments.

Alain Fabre, CEO of Barriere Croisette Casino, was once again fired up to showcase his French property: “We are pleased to welcome back this event to the Cannes Barriere resort. The first edition of the WSOPE in Cannes was a great success, an-award winning event that we took great pride in. We look forward to hosting the players again and will strive to make this ‘festival of poker’ even more fabulous.”

Without further delay, here are the seven bracelet events that will be held as part of the 2012 WSOP Europe schedule. Note that French law only allows Hold’em and Omaha poker tournaments to be held:

The series was beamed around the world last year, as French viewers were able to watch the WSOP Europe action on Direct8, RTL9, and Lucky Jack, while American poker fans caught it on ESPN. WSOP officials claim that WSOP Europe “remains the only European poker tournament to be televised in the United States.”

Back across “The Pond,” the 2012 WSOP schedule begins on May 27th from Las Vegas. WSOP Europe’s sister series contains 61 bracelet events, including the annual $10,000 buy-in Main Event that kicks off on July 7th from the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in the Nevada desert. The addition of seven bracelet events in Cannes means that 68 pieces of hardware will be dished out in 2012.
