By the slimmest of margins, Aaron aguskbGustavson (pictured) won the July Monthly PocketFives Leaderboard with 2,639 points. He edged out second place by a scant 24 points and earned his very first Monthly PLB title.

Gustavson had almost 200 in the money finishes during July. To open the month, he finished second in both the PokerStars $109 NLHE Turbo Cubed and Bigger $162 for $33,000 combined. Two days later, he emerged victorious in the site’s Hot $44 for $7,700.

On July 12, a Sunday, Gustavson final tabled the Warm-Up and raked in $18,000. Two weeks later, he won the $109 NLHE Turbo Progressive Super Knockout for $13,000 and 280 PLB Points, the largest PLB Point total he had in any single tournament during the month.

Gustavson is indeed a man of volume. His largest score of 280 PLB Points was the fewest by a Monthly PLB winner since 1banditpanda‘s 213 points in June 2012. So, grind away he did!

This is the ninth Monthly PLB win all-time for Mexico, Gustavson’s home poker base. That’s the third highest tally by any country, as Mexico trails only the United States (17) and Canada (13) in that department.

Fittingly, Gustavson is #3 worldwide in the PocketFives Poker Rankings, his highest position ever. He’s up to 6,756 in the money finishes in online MTTs we track for a total of almost $3.8 million. His largest cash was worth a commanding $135,000 and came after winning the Sunday Warm-Up in mid-2009. The following year, he won an FTOPS jersey and $81,000 in cash.
