“If you’re a poker player, come to Montreal in April. We’ve got about 1,000 people to be qualifiers. Very soft field! Thank you very much!”

Playground Poker Club’s Phil Sabbah, pointing to the sky, was fired up as he accepted the American Poker Award for last year’s partypoker MILLION North America event at his Montreal-based club. Why wouldn’t he be? Despite the APA’s being sponsored by PokerStars, partypoker’s new “players first” narrative helped overcome some long odds to take home the trophy for Event Of The Year.

The tournament was so well-received in 2017, partypoker LIVE is doubling down in 2018. They’ve increased the guarantee of the upcoming MILLIONS North America Main Event to an enormous $10,000,000 CAD (~ $7,650,000 US) and they are doing everything they can to make this year even better than the last.

MILLIONS Main Event

The $5,300 Main Event of the partypoker MILLIONS North America follows in the footsteps of their other recent Main Events. Starting on Tuesday, April 24 players have up to five starting flights to choose from, each one allowing for a single re-entry. Sixty-minute levels (except for Day 1E which is paired down to 40 minutes) and starting stacks of 100 big blinds make it so players have some wiggle room but also moving swiftly enough to ensure that plenty of players will be busting out in the first few levels.

The prize pool, a minimum of CAD $10,000,000, is going to require no less than 2000 runners to reach the guarantee. That could be a tough number to hit. Helping to bring players through the Playground Poker Club doors though will be, for a lucky few, the promise of a seven-figure score. Each of the top three players at the final table will walk away with a cash of CAD $1,000,000 or more. But unlike the World Poker Tour Argentina stop – only the last player standing will get to hoist the partypoker trophy.

Win And You’re In

partypoker is looking to make MILLIONS North America one of the biggest events of the year by packing the field with qualifiers. If they have it their way, there will be almost half who found their way to a seat by paying a fraction of the buy-in by winning seats via satellites.

Online, partypoker is offering their Phases tournaments to help people win their way into the Main Event, starting for as little as $0.50. Players can work their way up the ladder or buy directly into the $530 MILLIONS North America Mega Satellite tournaments. Taking place on Sundays at 4 pm EST, each of the mega satellites guarantees at least ten seats to the Montreal Main Event. Multiple seats won can be used for re-entry.

A Festival Of Events

Though the Main Event is the major focus of the MILLIONS North America tour stop, it’s not the only event on the calendar. The entire festival takes place from April 21- May 2 and includes a CAD $25,000 Super High Roller, a CAD $10,000 High Roller, two CAD $1,000 events, and also a CAD $10,000 MILLIONS Finale, just in case players need a trip saver.

In total, the schedule guarantees CAD $15,000,000 over the six total events.

All of the action takes place at one of the world’s premiere card rooms, the Playground Poker Club, just 20 minutes outside of Montreal. The CAD $1,000 Opening Event kicks off on April 21, with Day 1A of the Main Event getting underway on April 24.
