Longtime PocketFives member Casey bigdogpckt5sJarzabek (pictured) has been on a tear over the last two Sundays. On October 16th, Jarzabek was part of a three-way chop of the PokerStars Sunday 500that saw him rake in $43,000 and officially take second place. One week later, he was up to his old tricks again. This time, Jarzabek was part of a three-way deal in the PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up and officially recorded the win for $83,000. We caught up with the Canuck to get the inside scoop on his recent dominance.

“I feel pretty great about it,” Jarzabek told us when asked if he’s on cloud nine as a result of his back-to-back chops. “I took most of the year off from MTTs and am just getting back into it. Instant binkage is nice.” Over the eight-day period, Jarzabek hauled in $126,000 after battling against over 4,100 opponents.

On whether his accomplishment is in any way diminished given that both tournaments ended in chops, Jarzabek told PocketFives, “You’re never sure if you’re going to play it the exact same way, so I try not to dwell on that. I negotiated a little extra for myself in the chops and took the most money out of everyone in both tournaments.” He’s up to over $4.4 million in tracked cashes on PocketFives, including nearly $2 million on PokerStars alone.

Many players we’ve interviewed for feature articles on PocketFives believe in momentum. They contend that success in one tournament can power you through others. Jarzabek, however, explained that his recent success is instead due to unwavering confidence: “Both tournaments played really differently. I always go into a Sunday thinking I’m going to have a great day, but on the 23rd, I was a massive chip leader the whole way. The Sunday before that, I played the short stack the whole way.” He’ll be profiling his antics at Tournament Poker Edge, where he’s an instructor.

This month’s dominance marked the culmination of a long road back to health for Jarzabek, who suffered a heart attack last year. He explained that he took some much needed time off and now has a baby on the way: “We’re expecting our first child at the end of November, so I’ve been busy getting ready for the little one’s arrival. I’ve just had other priorities in my life, but I’m back to focusing on Tournament Poker Edge, which means I have to focus on MTTs. We picked up Mike goleafsgoeh Leah as an instructor and he immediately binked the WCOOP Main Event. That’s motivated me to get some results.”

Needless to say, he was quite bubbly when talking about his soon-to-be-born son, telling PocketFives, “I made the doctor double-check about six times when he told me I was having a son. I’m very, very pumped about it.”

In case you have any prop bets going, Jarzabek’s son will be named Eric. Why Eric, you ask? “There was a big phase where our group of friends called everyone Eric,” Jarzabek confessed. “But I really like the name, so I’m going with that.”

Finally, Jarzabek’s achievement will likely go down in the annals of poker history. However, we’ve chronicled several impressive performances over the years and wanted to know what past poker feats our latest interviewee thought were the most memorable: “The day that Jordan Jymaster0011 Young (pictured) decided to win the $750K and the Brawl was pretty impressive.” Young did so in August 2010 and his two victories were good for nearly $240,000 total. Later that month, he won the Full Tilt $200K for another $79,000.

Jarzabek also recalled when Mark dipthrong Herm took down two Sunday Majors in one day. He then self-promoted a bit: “I chopped the Multi-Entry Sunday Brawl for a huge chunk of money. On that same day, I also won a PCA seat and got 22nd in the big Multi-Entry $750K.” That big day occurred in April just before Black Friday in the United States.

Congratulations to Jarzabek on his recent dominating performance. Will he three-peat this weekend? Stay tuned to PocketFives to find out.
