The profile and key stats for the new #1 ranked player on PocketFives, ‘C Darwin2’

The more tournaments you run deep in, the higher you’re going to go in the PocketFives Rankings. The rankings formula emphasizes prize pools and finish positions, and Sweden’s ‘C Darwin2‘ put on a clinic over the last week in both to become the #1 player in all the land.

Last Thursday, the Swede won the partypoker High Roller, which had a $50,000 prize pool, and raked in $13,000. For the win, ‘C Darwin2’ also booked a $13,000 payday and 223 PocketFives Leaderboard points. The same day, he took silver in the site’s Heavyweight Uppercut for another $7,000 and 147 points.

On Sunday, it was more of the same. This time, ‘C Darwin2’ took third in the partypoker Super High Roller, which had a $102,000 prize pool, and earned $15,000 along with 165 PLB Points. Just like that, he rose from #2 to #1 in the PocketFives Rankings, his fifth stint at the top.

His lead, at least right now, seems fairly tenuous since his 7,710 PLB Points are just 50 ahead of the next closest person. Nevertheless, he’s ranked #1 for the fifth time in his career. Here are his stints in the top spot:

  • February 10, 2016 – February 17, 2016
  • April 27, 2016 – May 4, 2016
  • May 11, 2016 – June 1, 2016
  • June 8, 2016 – June 22, 2016
  • July 6, 2016 – ???

Last week’s #1 player in the world, Brazil’s Joao ‘joaosimaobh’ Simao, didn’t drop very far. He’s now at #2 and nipping at ‘C Darwin2’s’ heels with a PLB score of 7,656 points. The Brazilian had three scores of at least $40,000 in May and should continue to be a staple of the top of the rankings, perhaps even the #1 player as soon as next week.

Moscow’s Aleksandr ‘NoPlanB’ Mordvinov was up nine spots to #6, his highest ranking ever. He’s fresh off winning the May PocketFives Leaderboard race. That month, he took down his second PocketFives Triple Crown. In the last week, Mordvinov has won the PokerStars $320 Saturday Knockout and Big $109 for over $20,000 total and finished fourth in the Big $215 on Monday.

Mordvinov has $3.6 million in career online tournament winnings from 3,343 in the money finishes, an average of $1,105 each. He plays on PokerStars under the user name ‘EvnomiYa‘.

Brazil’s Joao ‘joaomathias’ Mathias is back in the top 10 this week

Reentering the top 10 this week was a familiar face: Brazil’s Joao ‘joaomathias’ Mathias, who can be found at #9. He’s on the verge of becoming just the 12th person in online poker history to hit $8 million in winnings and took down the PokerStars Sunday Supersonic over the weekend for a commanding $30,000 and 423 PLB Points. The 262nd win of his tournament career inched him closer to claiming the top spot in the rankings, a position he last held in January of last year.

Outside of the top 10, Russia’s Maxim ‘decay’ Lykov moved up 19 positions to #53. He won the PokerStars $10K Payday over the weekend for $16,000 to help his cause, his 135th career win. Lykov is up to $4.6 million in lifetime online MTT winnings and is the sixth-ranked player in his home country. He plays on PokerStars under the screen name ‘$uperdecay‘.

Uruguay’s ‘rph‘ ticked up 17 spots to #65 after a week in which he won the Big $55, took second in the Big $215, and finished third in the Hot $109 for $20,000 total. He also made the final two tables of this week’s Super Tuesday, bowing out in 12th place. ‘rph’ is $30,000 away from hitting $4 million for his career and is the top-ranked online poker player in Uruguay.

Brazil’s Fabiano ‘Kovalski’ Kovalski entered the top 100 at #82, his highest ranking ever. He took second in the 888 Baby Whale over the weekend for $11,000 and won the Big $109 the day before that for $8,300. Kovalski is the #4 player in Brazil and he’s nearing 2,000 tracked in the money finishes.

Finally, Rick ‘TheClaimeer’ Trigg is back. Once ranked #4 in the world, Trigg re-cracked the top 100 at #88. He finished fourth in the partypoker Heavyweight Main Event on July 3 for $10,000 two days after taking down the site’s Uppercut for $9,100, one of four wins he’s had in the last week. Trigg is the 10th-ranked player in the UK.
