HighStakesDB explained, “Cates had an indifferent first few hours, only starting to go into any significant profit after 9.5 hours of play. A four-hour afternoon session, however, put Cates firmly in control, winning over half-a-million dollars. With four six-figure sessions, including two of more than $270,000, jungleman12 eventually finished [Saturday’s] sessions with a $677,400 profit. Over the entire session, however, he is up $563,000, as he lost $113,600 in sessions which started after Midnight.”

More importantly, Cates eclipsed eight-figures in winnings at the high-stakes tables of Full Tilt for his career. In 2014, Cates is up $3 million.

HighStakesDB began tracking Cates in 2009 and, over the course of the last five years, the site has logged $9.69 million in winnings for him across all sites that it follows. He is up $5.4 million in No Limit Hold’em games, $1.8 million in Pot Limit Omaha, $1.4 million in Mixed HA, $655,000 in Eight-Game, $373,000 in Draw Games, and $2,700 in Limit Hold’em. The only format Cates has not turned a profit at is HORSE, where he is a $3,000 loser.

All told, HighStakesDB has tracked Cates for almost 361,000 hands. He was the second contender for Tom Dwan (pictured) in the so-called Durrrr Challenge, which hasn’t seen any action since last year. As it stands, Cates is up $1.5 million in the Durrrr Challenge against Dwan after 20,000 hands. The Challenge has dragged on for four years now, leading Cates to tell PokerListings last December, “durrrr is just being disrespectful at best at this point and I’m not sure what to do about it.”

Cates’ biggest pot played online, according to HighStakesDB, came in 2010 in a $300/$600 Pot Limit Omaha game. That pot, which was played against Patrik Antonius, was worth $375,000. He has played three pots that HighStakesDB has tracked that have passed $300,000.
