David DcHustlerCahill (pictured) is one of the most recent recipients of the PocketFives.com Triple Crown. Cahill hails from Georgetown, Canada and cashed in on a Triple Crown by winning three $10,000 prize pool tournaments across three sites tracked for the Poker Player Rankings within a week.

It was a pretty nerve-wracking seven days for Cahill, who took down the Full Tilt Poker $23,500 Guaranteefor $6,300. One day later, he emerged on top of the field of the PokerStars $12,500 Guarantee and was just one tournament away from his first Triple Crown title.

Then, the sweat began. The Canadian took down the PartyPoker $8,000 Guarantee on the last possible day he was eligible for the Triple Crown, but the tournament fell $250 short of the $10,000 prize pool requirement and, therefore, his quest for the Triple Crown continued.

It must have been agony watching the PartyPoker tournament’s prize pool grow within inches of the five-figure mark. Cahill remarked, “That was pretty brutal. I had a feeling it was going to happen about halfway through the tournament. I was so determined not to let it slip by, so I just stayed 100% focused throughout my session and made sure to take advantage of the spots I had.”

On trying to land the third victory, Cahill told us, “The entire week was a race through every possible Triple Crown worthy tournament during the hours I had scheduled to play. Being down to the last day meant I was going to have to change my schedule to include even more of the later evening tournaments on sites like UB.com that I wouldn’t normally play on a day-to-day basis.”

The final win quite literally came at the closing bell and occurred in the Titan Poker $10,000 GP Rebuy. The victory was worth $2,700 and marked the fulfillment of a career-long goal. Cahill told PocketFives.com, “The Triple Crown was something I felt I had no excuse not to have. I have worked very hard at improving over the years and felt I should have already had one.”

The poker community took note of Cahill’s achievement as well. In a forum thread that popped up shortly thereafter, posters congratulated Cahill on his first title. On the crew who praised him, Cahill detailed, “A few of those guys I talk to on MSN all the time and we are always bouncing ideas off of each other.” The 11 players who chimed in collectively have brought home seven Triple Crowns, so he’s certainly surrounded by good company.

Which of the posters has had the biggest influence on Cahill’s up-and-coming tournament poker game? “Out of the bunch, it would have to be andyh26,” Cahill responded. “We have been friends online and talked the most strategy since we both started back when PokerRoom was a site and U.S. players could play there.” Andy Holman, the man behind andyh26, calls the U.K. home and is the top ranked player in the city of Cardiff.

Cahill got his start like many of his compatriots on PocketFives.com: playing in home games with friends and then progressing to online poker. He was hooked from the opening gun: “I just never wanted to stop learning.

Cahill’s largest online poker cash to date came in October 2009, when he final tabled the PartyPoker Monthly Million for $46,000. He’s up to over a half-million dollars in tracked earnings and can be found at #867 worldwide.
