Twenty-four players remain in the 2009 installment of the World Poker Tour’s (WPT) Legends of Poker. Among the top players on the leaderboard is Corwin mig.comMackey. The “Domain of Champions,” as I affectionately call him, sits in fourth place overall with 608,000 chips, trailing Todd tbt4653 Terry’s pace-setting 850,000. In between Terry and Mackey are two World Series of Poker (WSOP) November Nine members, Kevin Schaffel and Steven Begleiter. The action resumes from the Bicycle Casino’s brand new Events Center today at 3:00pm ET. Check out PocketFivesLive.com for WPT coverage of online poker players battling in Los Angeles.

Mackey (pictured at left) eliminated fellow poker player Bobby Suer just before the money bubble burst holding pocket kings against Suer’s pocket queens. Mackey is a WSOP bracelet holder, having captured a coveted piece of hardware during the 2007 tournament series in a $5,000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em event. Mackey earned $730,000 for his efforts two years ago and is seeking his first WPT final table. PocketFivesLive.com Tournament Reporter Court Harrington, who has been following the action from SoCal, commented, “Day 3 was yet another solid day for Mackey. Nothing flashy, nothing showy, just solid strong poker that positions him for a run at a final table appearance and the title."
Mackey can be found at Table 2, Seat 4 to open play on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the top three stacks in the room – Terry, Schaffel, and Begleiter – will all head to Table 3. The 19th through 24th place finishers will take home $18,000 and the six who make it through to Wednesday’s final table will see their bankrolls boosted by at least $89,000:

1st Place: $1,034,500
2nd Place: $471,670
3rd Place: $231,300
4th Place: $144,600
5th Place: $116,225
6th Place: $89,220

PocketFives.com member Bryan badbeatninjaDevonshire (pictured at right) had the Legends of Poker field buzzing on Monday. Aside from building architectural wonders that rival the Great Pyramids with his stack, Devonshire also went from being the chip leader with 27 players remaining to being ousted from the WPT event in 26th place. The downfall began with Devonshire doubling up David Demanski after calling Demanski’s all-in with A-4 on an ace-high flop. Demanski, however, flipped up A-Q.

After telling Harrington, “Even in punt formation, I’m going into the money with the chip lead,” Devonshire doubled up Matt Marafioti with A-Q against pocket jacks after the wired pair held. Terry ultimately served as his executioner after flopping a flush with A-7 of diamonds. Devonshire held 10-8 of diamonds for a weaker flush and pushed his chips in, sending him to the exits in 26th place, $18,000 richer for his wear.

Tony DrunkPPlayaGargano (pictured at left) sits in 11th in the WPT Legends of Poker. Gargano won the $100 rebuy on Full Tilt Pokerone month ago for $36,000 and finished third in the Sunday 500 on PokerStars last November for $50,000. The Michigan poker player also owns a final table appearance in the $150 rebuy on Full Tilt. On Gargano, Harrington noted, "Tony is a bit of an unknown around the WPT, but he is quickly making a name for himself as someone you don't want at your table. He is tough, makes very few mistakes, and capitalizes on any errors his opponents may make."

Carter ckingusc King (pictured at right) will also take to the field today at 3:00pm PT. King, a former PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) Main Event Champion, holds the 21st largest stack at the Bicycle Casino at 119,000. Here’s how the field stacks up:
