You might think that after three Triple Crowns, the award would just get boring. “Been there, done that” might be your mantra. However, for Germany’s Martin Mulsow, who is known on PocketFives as moertelmu, the third Triple Crown was just as meaningful as the first two. He told PocketFives in an exclusive interview, “It was my third Triple Crown and it feels great. Every Triple Crown is an achievement of its own.”

Wins on PartyPoker, PokerStars, and PokerStars.fr within a one-week span allowed him to capture his latest Triple Crown last month, which was worth over 400 PLB Points. He set the scene for the award: “I had a horrible Sunday two weeks ago, which I salvaged by winning the PartyPoker $22 Rebuy, although I still lost a lot. Then, I won the PokerStars $16 Turbo on Monday, so I knew I had a legit shot at a Triple Crown.”

He added, “I grinded a lot on Tuesday and Wednesday and got a bit burnt out, so I took two days off and came back in full force. I had already forgotten about the Triple Crown possibility by that point, but then it hit me when I was at the final table of the Minuit Express on PokerStars.fr.” He won the PokerStars.fr tournament with a scant two hours to go until the Triple Crown deadline. Talk about good timing.

In February, Mulsow won a €1,000 No Limit Hold’em Turbo Bounty during the EPT’s stop in Deaville for $55,000, which he called the moment of his poker career that he is most proud of so far. He said, “I totaled my car two days before the event and tilt-unregistered for the Main Event. That win meant I had finally made it on the biggest level possible. I was kind of distracted and tilted with the car accident. It went from the worst to best poker trip ever in like a day.”

After wrecking his ride, Mulsow spent two days in a hotel organizing transportation and car insurance. He elaborated, “I was scheduled to drive home the next day and said, ‘I’m going to have some fun and life needs to go on,’ so I played one more tournament, which I won.” According to the Hendon Mob, Mulsow has $154,000 in lifetime live tournament cashes.

He is still enrolled in college, but told us that he is trying to excel at poker as well: “I am studying German, Philosophy, and Englishfor a teaching program, but do not really like it, so I thought I should give poker a shot on the side instead of something I don’t enjoy. I’ll probably try studying Psychologyor something that I’m really interested in as well.”

The three-time Triple Crown winner hasn’t been a one-trick pony of poker tournaments, either. Instead, he has pursued a variety of games throughout his poker journey, including sit and gos, heads-up sit and gos, cash games, six-max cash games, and MTTs, which he said “has helped my MTT game quite a lot. I enjoy MTTs because of the endless earnings potential and huge final tables. On a good Sunday, I can basically make $200,000 if I just run good enough, which I could never achieve in sit and gos or cash games.”

Earlier this month, Mulsow final tabled the weekly PokerStars Sunday 500 and walked off with $30,000 after a third place exit. Last August, he was seventh in a $1 million guaranteed tournament on PartyPoker and cashed for $26,000. If you want to follow him on Twitter, hit him up at the handle @moertelmu.
