Last month, it took all of two days for Nurlan Bobekov (pictured), who can be found on PocketFives under the user name Nur1ck, to score his second online poker Triple Crown. Winning one of these puppies requires a person to take down three $10,000 prize pool tournaments across three sites tracked for the PocketFives Poker Rankings within seven days. It’s certainly no easy task, so we caught up with Bobekov to learn what went into the making of his second piece of hardware.

The PartyPoker$30,000 Guaranteed Super Tuesday Rebuy, a $13 tournament on 888 Poker, and the PokerStars Turbo $20,000 Guaranteed made up his Triple Crown and took place on November 15 and 16. He cashed in for more than $15,000 total and told PocketFives in an exclusive interview, “I’m feeling great. It’s always nice to win. To be honest, the first Triple Crown was more important to me, but Ill take the second as well.”

We sifted through some of the tournaments Bobekov won, starting on PartyPoker with the Super Tuesday Rebuy, which has a price tag of $90: “The PartyPoker $90 Rebuy is a tournament I play when I get the chance to. I would say it’s pretty soft compared to PokerStars’ rebuy tournaments, but on Party, you can play too loose and aggressive because the MTTs there are 10-handed. The best way to approach it is to play on the tighter side of your opening ranges.”

A few days removed from his Triple Crown, he was up to his winning ways once again, this time in the Titan Poker $50 Rebuy. We asked him for the optimal strategy to navigate that tournament: “I think playing on the tighter side is the right way to approach it, especially in the early and middle stages. In the beginning of most MTTs, I am on autopilot. I did not really take it too seriously until the final two tables.”

He continued, “I managed to build a 40+ big blind stack leading up to the final table, and that’s a pretty good stack in those tournaments because the structure isn’t that great. I got pretty short when we were playing four-max, but got lucky in few spots to bust the strongest player at the table with my A-K versus A-Q. From then on, it was an easy job, as my opponents were pretty weak players.”

Bobekov is a member of the New South Wales pokercommunity and sits at #153 worldwide in the PocketFives Rankings. He has been playing poker for a scant three years and told us that he first started playing on Facebook. No, that isn’t a typo: “It may sound funny, but Facebook is where I first started playing. One of my mates I was sharing a room with introduced me to poker and gave me a few tips.”

He began playing full-time in January. “Before that,” Bobekov narrated, “I was studying (I finished my diploma in accounting) and working a little bit there and there, but never really had a full-time job for more than a year.” His current career path seems to be a winner, as he has amassed over $500,000 in Rankings-eligible online MTT cashes.

He closed by sending a shout out to the team at PocketFives Training, which specializes in online MTT training: “PocketFives Training really helped improving my game, just by learning from guys like Gags30, KillerEV, Assassinato, and apestyles, as I don’t have too many friends to discuss poker with.” He also wanted to send a shout out to his mother: “She has always been supportive of me. Also, thanks to a few of my close friends, who I don’t want to mention since they know who they are.”
