Ryan g0lfaD’Angelo (pictured) leads the pack after Day 1 of the Five Diamond World Poker Classic, a stop on the World Poker Tour (WPT). You may remember D’Angelo having success earlier this year when he placed fifth in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure for $700,000. He also took third in a $2,000 No Limit Hold’em event during the 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP) for another $326,000. Can he go wire-to-wire at the hallmark WPT tournament, which is unfolding from the Bellagio in Las Vegas?

The end of the day saw D’Angelo send fellow PocketFives.com member Joseph subiime Cheong (pictured) packing. In a hand markedly similar to one Cheong played against Jonathan Duhamel at the 2010 WSOP Main Event final table, he 6bet all-in pre-flop with A-J and ran into the pocket jacks of D’Angelo. The wired pair held for the win and D’Angelo shot up the leaderboard to 170,000 in chips. He ended with 192,500 and the chip lead, Tweeting after the night was over, “193k to end day. WPT party tonight with Tony Dunst and crew. Life is good!”

Steven PiKappRaiderBurkholder (pictured) relegated Jason JP OSU Potter to the rails late on Day 1. Potter also 6bet all-in before the flop and this time held pocket jacks against Burkholder’s A-K. A king came on the flop to shoot Burkholder into the lead and Potter, who made a WPT final table two years ago, couldn’t catch up. Burkholder ended the day with a stack of 113,275, good for the 17th largest tally out of the 287 survivors.

Potter reacted to his elimination on Twitter, telling his followers in cyberspace, “Ughhh, lost a 120K flip to PiKappRaider JJ vs AK where in this given situation the money had to go in with my absurd image and game flow. Busto.” Potter won a World Championship of Online Poker, or WCOOP, event in September.

Former WPT champ McLean pureprofitfourKarr (pictured) ousted Anthony holdplz Spinella on Day 1 of the Five Diamond World Poker Classic. Spinella pushed on a board reading J-J-8-9-2 and Karr tanked, telling Spinella he had a jack before electing to call. Spinella mucked after Karr showed K-J and that was all she wrote for the North Carolina native. Meanwhile, Karr build a stack of 59,375 on Day 1 and can be found at 106th on the leaderboard.

Finally, Owen ocroweCrowe (pictured) eliminated an opponent after calling an all-in with pocket aces on a flop of Q-6-4. His foe held A-K for “squadoosh” and a running 8-2 preserved the massive influx of chips for Crowe, who has over $2 million in cashes from tournaments tracked for the PocketFives.com Rankings. Crowe ended the day in 157th place with a stack of 44,000.
