“It’s official, the people at GG Poker are absolutely crazy.”
Just days after the GG Masters hit the established $300,000 guarantee for the first time in its 11-week history, officials at GGPoker have, once again, increased the guarantee on their marquee tournament.
In a short video released this week by brand ambassador Daniel Negreanu, it was announced that this Sunday’s GG Masters will feature a $400,000 guarantee.
“We finally hit the guarantee,” Negreanu said on the video. “$300K after kicking it up from 250K. So what do they do? They say ‘Let’s make it 400K!’ So this Sunday, $400,000 guaranteed for $150 buy-in…with no re-entry.”
Even with current events keeping people inside their homes around the world, the push to $400,000 is ambitious. Just last week, a surge of 2,260 players flooded the GG Masters lobby creating a prize pool of $311,880. The winner was ‘oldzet’ who walked away with $46,252.45 for finishing first.
One of the selling points of the GG Masters is that its ‘old school’ poker. No rebuys, no re-entries. It’s a freezeout meaning everyone gets one shot at turning their $150 into a five-figure payday.
The new $400,000 guarantee means that an additional 639 players are going to need to enter for GGPoker just to meet the guarantee. That would be roughly a 28% week-over-week increase in runners. If they don’t hit that number of players those that do play will enjoy the extra value of overlay.
GGPoker has proven that they aren’t afraid of taking big risks with the GG Masters. And they certainly aren’t worried about paying overlay. Prior meeting the guarantee for the first time last week, GGPoker had been adding thousands of dollars every week just to meet the $300,000 guarantee. Over the course of eight weeks, GGPoker chipped in over $225,000.
“GG Masters, ya’ll. Go play.”
The GG Masters was already steadily becoming a weekend mainstay for both recreational players and those who grind the Sunday Majors. In addition to a massive guarantee, the ability to sell pieces from right inside the platform has a broad appeal. It allows those who play with strict bankroll management the option of selling shares, at markup if warranted, and taking their shot.
Additionally, GGPoker offers bubble protection to players who register before the start of the tournament. This means, that when the tournament nears the cash, depending on how many players enter the event, if you have the protection you may be eligible to get your buy-in back if you bust right before the money.
Finally, the GG Masters leaderboard is still in its early stages. It runs through the end of the year and the player who accumulates the most points will become a GGPoker ambassador, a prize that is worth as much as $500,000.
The GG Masters takes place every Sunday at 12:00 noon ET (16:00 UTC) every Sunday on GGPoker.
