PocketFives: Tell us how you got started in poker.

Jake Schafer: I started playing poker in college. There was a big group of us that played cash games all the time at Coastal Carolina University. I think most of us really got interested in the game during the Moneymaker period, as watching poker on ESPN all the time got me really interested in and eventually hooked on poker.

PocketFives: What are your favorite New Jersey online poker sites to play and why?

Jake Schafer: I play on WSOP.com the most. I like WSOP’s and 888 Poker‘s software the best. I get disconnected and also have geo-location issues a lot with Borgata Poker, PartyPoker, and Ultimate Poker, so I mainly just play on WSOP.com and 888 for now.

PocketFives: What has been your most memorable cash on the New Jersey websites?

Jake Schafer: The most memorable win would be shipping the WSOP.com $10,000 Weekly Sunday Guarantee. I have final tabled all of the bigger buy-in tournaments on WSOP, but to close out a win in the Sunday $10,000 Guarantee was very memorable.

PocketFives: To what do you attribute your success playing online poker?

Jake Schafer: Most my success on New Jersey sites has come from years of playing and having experience with the ups and downs of poker. The more you play and the more hands you see, the better you will be. Reading books on poker helps, but to really get better and improve your game, you need to put in the time and volume.
