PocketFives: How are you feeling about the Sunday Million final table?

Pedro Correa: I’m feeling very happy with it, especially because I already bubbled two Sunday Million final tables in the past and was so worried it would happen again. In the end, I had an amazing time since I had two of my best friends rooting for me when I was the chip leader with about 100 left on down. I was in my friend’s apartment, where I was doing that session. We had a lot of fun.

PocketFives: Walk us through the final table. Where did you enter in chips and how did you go out?

Pedro Correa: I think I was fourth or fifth in chips with 18 big blinds, but lost almost half of that at the beginning and couldn’t get it to where I would have had a good stack to play more aggressively. The final table was kind of soft for that kind of prize money, but one crazy player was doing a lot of unusual things and hitting almost every underdog pot. So, I had to wait for premium hands and play a more straightforward ICM style.

PocketFives: Do you have any plans for the money? It’s your second biggest cash to date.

Pedro Correa: I don’t have any plans yet. I’ll probably invest a bit in the financial market, where my real job is at the moment, and leave the rest to play with.

PocketFives: You’ve had a solid last three months, with cashes of $64,000, $61,000, $29,000, and $20,000 since November. Do you feel good about your game right now?

Pedro Correa: Yes, I have a lot of confidence in my game right now. I think I made some adjustments that are paying off, especially changing gears at the right time in the later stages of tournaments and having more patience. All of this changed in reality when I started to have a relationship 1.5 years ago. Having a balanced life here in Brazil really helped my mindset.

PocketFives: How did you get started in poker? What or who were some of your biggest influences coming up in the game?

Pedro Correa: I started in 2007 when I bought a poker book coming back from a summer trip to the USA. I was at university at the time and started to study and play whenever I could. I really liked the game and have had the same passion to learn since. My biggest influences come from watching videos and watching high-stakes games whenever I can.

PocketFives: You’re another Brazilian doing well. How excited are you to represent your home country?

Pedro Correa: Poker in Brazil is growing at a huge rate, but still has a lot of room to improve. In general, people like Andre aakkari Akkari and Igor Federal work hard to grow the game and need the proper respect for it. I’m very happy to represent Brazil. Sadly, I don’t have the free time to go abroad and play more on the live circuit.

PocketFives: Have you had a chance to play live?

Pedro Correa: I play live, but only in local tournaments with huge prizes since I need to ask for time off from work if I go deep. That happened last year when I won one of the three BSOPs that run in Sao Paulo. That’s why I tend to play online, so it doesn’t affect my job.

PocketFives: Is there anything you’d like to add?

Pedro Correa: I appreciate your time and want to congratulate you guys for the work. I also hope to finish the monthly Brazilian PocketFives rankings strong, as I play so much less than everybody out here. It’s a hard field to beat.
